This vid brings to light a lesson I learned the hard way.; remove the filler plug before the drain plug.
If you remove the drain and can't get the filler out, you're screwed!

I usually see workshops having a wire mesh guarding the funnel into the oil drain tank. So no risk of any objects falling in...

Another great video, Peter! I have a ‘99 Tacoma 4WD and have rebuilt the entire suspension front to back and replaced the fluids in the front and rear diffs and transfer case. And I didn’t even know there was a rear diff vent until now!!! Headed out to the garage to check it now. Thank you! Keep them coming. I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos.
Update: Yep, it was stuck. Those breather caps are soft metal. If you use more than a metal brush and your hand, go easy on it, they break free pretty easily.

  • @Pallidus_Rider

Thank you for this video. I changed the rear diff oil two weeks ago. And have been seeing people talking about the breathing vent. So I took mine off and there was a poof when I unscrewed it telling me there was pressure in there. I ordered one and it’s coming. But I worked the old one over and got it cleaned up and free working so I put it back till my new one comes in. Once again thank you. Your videos are top notch.

I just changed the transfer case and rear diff fluid in my 2012 rav4 with synthetic 75W-90 and I am getting a smell of burning gear oil inside the cabin after the vehicle heats up, but not outside of it. I rechecked the level and it seemed low and I added more oil until it began running out. Ran the vehicle again and I still get the smell inside the car, but not as strong as before. Any suggestions for getting rid of this smell would be greatly appreciated. Love your videos.

Many, many people don't do any maintenance on any car or truck, "it's running, why would I need to do anything?" Or "it will be too much money!" Or "I need my truck I can't have it tied up in a shop" there's a long list of excuses, and many times it's just ignorance. Most cars and trucks rarely get anything more than gas in the tank and a quart of oil when the oil light comes on.
