As a Vol fan , I don't like having too go to Ohio State but if we want to be elite or considered an elite team again, we have to be able to go on the road and beat programs like Ohio State. GO VOLS !!!!!!!!!
I actually want OSU to go on the road, because Columbus is too cold, not good for passing plays, which OSU heavily rely on. Secondly, OSU usually beat themselves at home game when under pressure.
Nobody is even arguing Alabama's resume. All the 3 loss teams and Miami have bad losses, but Alabama has the best collection of wins among those teams and including over one of them. Being ranked number 11 makes sense to me and it's also where the BCS poll would have them.
While that is true, If it were just a money decision, Colorado would be in. They are box office. Money has a significant influence on this, but it doesn't have the final say.
If South Carolina had beaten Bama and got embarrassed by an unranked Oklahoma team. They would still have put Bama in saying South Carolina had a bad loss. It doesn’t matter what SC does because they will either get screwed by the refs or the selection committee and this year both. ESPN can be blamed as well because they all were pubbing Bama.
Same thing as the UC-Austin Longhorns last year. They were best by UT-Norman Sooners last year and blew a 22-0 lead over a crappy Houston team...and still got in over Georgia....only to get spanked by Washington. It's all about $$$ & it's a freaking joke
What the committee has told us with these ranking is that wins over ranked teams is more impressive than losses to unranked teams. It’s harder to beat a great team than lose to an average or bad team.
Good teams can lose frequently to bad teams - great teams do not lose often. Bama's lisses were ugly, and at this point, Bama is merely run Milroe left, right, up the middle, and hope he can complete a pass every now and then. Ohio State - they lost at the end of the year, typically teams have really felt the selection committees displeasure when doing so - unless they're named OSU, AL, and possibly Notre Dame.
What do you know? SECSPN gets almost 30% of the money from The College Football Playoff and SECSPN is going to get 1/3 of the teams into the playoff. B1G gets almost 30% of the money from The College Football Playoff and B1G gets 1/3 of the teams into the playoff. Alabama is a huge brand with 2 losses to bad teams. Alabama is in. I was wrong all this time. This whole thing isn't about money at all. 10:26
Are you kidding me? The amount of money coming out of the sec is earth shattering compared to all other conferences. But that has just changed. 25 will be manipulated. The big 10 is now the money train.
Gotta agree. Everyone knows in football, baseball, hockey , b-ball, etc. that the teams hottest at the end of the season are the ones no one else wants to play. Everyone except the CFS Committee.

Said the same thing last year - they made it the semi's, and except for a stupid call on the goal line they would have been in the final... they could run deep again. Not sure they will, but they could.
So by ranking south carolina underneath all these other teams with 50+ SOS you are showing everyone that SOS doesnt matter and you should put as many bad teams on your schedule as possible to avoid any losses and make the playoffs. Weird message to put out there just saying.
Scheduling weak opponents, something FL did routinely in the 90's. But, that being said, the rationale for selections seems to get cloudier every year. I personally think they should've left it alone and let the two top teams play at the end of the year. This is only creating chaos/confusion/ill will, but mostly a lot of $$$$.
I've been an Alabama fan since 93. We've had some great teams, good teams, and not really that good teams. I know I'll catch flack but we don't deserve to be in the CFP this year. We didn't earn it. South Carolina deserves it more than we do. Even though we beat them the lack of energy and heart against Vanderbilt and Oklahoma shows that the team is not as disciplined and well coached as a Nick Saban team. Sometimes you have to sit people out of the big dance to get their attention for next year.
If their goal is to have the "12 best teams" in the playoff. I believe the most important thing is how the teams close out the regular season. For example, south carolina is playing great and winning their games and looking better than an alabama team that was just shut down against oklahoma. There shouldn't be a lot of weight to the games earlier in the year as compared to the 2nd half of the year or the conference championship games
@@rg0702 so set up your schedule where you play and lose to top ranked teams early and win out on the back end. Great precedent…. South Carolina lost in the road to Bama and got smoked at home to Ole Miss, both teams that also have suspect losses, however, H2H has to matter. You can’t use the excuse that you ‘lost early’. It sucks but it’s the correct call.
I don’t get how by the standards they say they’re using, Bama is ahead of Ole Miss??? Both beat Georgia, ole Miss more convincingly and recently. Both 3 loss. Both lost games 2 weeks ago, one dominated by a flat OU team and the other to a Florida team that’s not good but is playing better football as of late. I’m not a fan of either team, but SOMEONE MAKE THIS MAKE SENSE!!!
They can’t be ranked the same??? What are they supposed to do? Give them both the 11th spot? It’s obvious they’re both pretty even teams. Both have bad losses. Both have good wins. Only thing I would do is put Miami at 14 instead of 12 and move the sec teams up 1 more spot
Obviously beating unranked teams has a bigger influence on rankings than who a team beats. How many top 25 teams has Notre Dame beat? How many top 10 teams have they even played? Most teams stats would look good on their schedule. They should be in the playoffs but in the 11th or 12th position.
Even as a Longhorns fan, I can see that Oregon may just go ahead and make this whole playoff thing irrelevant. They've been the most consistent college team all season long.
And they usually get ranked high at the end of the season. And they've pretty much owned the revamped national championship since the 1st took place in 98. So...there is that. And when you look at teams with high winning percentages since college football started, it should be no surprise that teams like OSU, Mich, AL, GA have some unbelievable percentages.
THIS!! The only reason SEC has tough strength of schedule is because they might have been highly ranked the year before and they play Division I-AA and Group of 5 schools in the first 2 or 3 weeks. They build up 2-0 and 3-0 wins before they play any conference games. Around week 4 or 5 there were 7 or 8 SEC teams in the top 10 even though I imagine a lot of Big 12, ACC, and Big 10 schools and similar W-L records. Don't rank based on the year before and don't rank until week 6, 7, or 8. It's never gonna change though. It's all about money. I don't like the transfer portal or NIL deals, but at least now the players have some control over themselves. They've been used for far too long.
I agree. I don't think these rankings will be final though. Penn State is going to lose to Oregon. Notre Dame will probably drop a ranking when Georgia plays Texas. I don't think SMU beats clemson either

@PokeFodder - Where did that conversation come from? First of all I never mentioned Florida State; but my opinion is that Florida State should not have been removed when they lost their quarterback. The committee literally just ignored the fact that SC went on the road and beat #12. Granted any 3 loss team cant complain much but that is ridiculous.
Something to keep track of: 2-loss Bama was ranked below 1-loss Miami before Georgia beat Tennessee. Then Bama went above Miami, but Georgia stayed behind them. If Georgia loses again, does the committee drop Bama or even Georgia behind the Canes? I doubt it, but both teams are heads and shoulders above the Tide. As an fsu fan I love the way this is playing out . SMU learns we were right and the committee is biased against the acc, Miami gets left out and everyone hates bama even more. Obviously the season was a disaster but Seeing everyone else pissed off is nice
OK, I understand that Miami has a bad defense and a lack of great wins (Florida, Louisville, and Duke are all solid) but they do have a #1 ranked offense, which should make them one of the top 12 IMO. I've watched SEC teams struggle to score 20 points all season. Even against Miami's shaky D, I think they would struggle to keep up with them and to stop them from scoring. Plus, it's not like Bama or SC have great resumes. 9-3 records with some bad losses. The Cuse and GT losses don't look so bad in retrospect. Ofc people will say "oh should've beat Syracuse and you would've got in." But I think out of Miami, Bama, SC, Ole Miss, BYU, Army, Clemson, the Big 12, Miami is probably best team out of the group because of their offense.
If Georgia loses to Texas, we’re in for a committee fumble. We know they won’t play 2 SEC teams against each other, so they won’t swap Georgia and Ohio State (because Georgia would then play Tennessee) . As an Ohio State fans, I got excited when I saw them paired with The Vols. I think that would be a fun game to watch.
I actually want OSU to go on the road, because Columbus is too cold, not good for passing plays, which OSU heavily rely on. Secondly, OSU usually beat themselves at home game when under pressure.
The CFP, where past successes factor into the current environment
How and who?
Nobody is even arguing Alabama's resume. All the 3 loss teams and Miami have bad losses, but Alabama has the best collection of wins among those teams and including over one of them. Being ranked number 11 makes sense to me and it's also where the BCS poll would have them.

What the committee has told us with these ranking is that wins over ranked teams is more impressive than losses to unranked teams. It’s harder to beat a great team than lose to an average or bad team.
🏆 That's an interesting take...
Wow I have never ever heard anyone say this !
So ACC, B12, and GO5 are essentially play in games and B1G and SEC just get 4 teams every year plus Notre Dame. So stupid.
Yup. CFP expansion solved nothing
The fact that a luckbox 8ot win is the difference between a team being #5 and #12/ out of the playoffs is an ABSOLUTE JOKE

Dont forget the U!

Both lost games 2 weeks ago, one dominated by a flat OU team and the other to a Florida team that’s not good but is playing better football as of late.
I’m not a fan of either team, but SOMEONE MAKE THIS MAKE SENSE!!!

They just pick who they want
They can’t be ranked the same??? What are they supposed to do? Give them both the 11th spot?
It’s obvious they’re both pretty even teams. Both have bad losses. Both have good wins. Only thing I would do is put Miami at 14 instead of 12 and move the sec teams up 1 more spot
Texas and Georgia might end up playing eachother 3 times this year, due to playoff bracket projection.
It's not hard to say that your strength of schedule is high when in the preseaon they rank EVERY SEC team in the top 25
Absolutely no rankings should come out until at least week 8
It creates bias ...when you actually watch the games it will show you that there's more than the SEC playing quality ball
