I am feeling much better now @MysticalDragon73. I always tend to get sick this time of the year since I travel a lot between colder and warmer environments.

Back in the late 70’s when I was young and knew everything, I made a dive when I was stuffed up with a cold. I rationalized it because I could clear my ears, so no problem, right?
WRONG… The dive was shallow, 30 feet, and everything was great until we surfaced. It felt like my head was going to explode. The pressure was so intense it was distorting my vision and sun light really hurt my head. I covered my head with a towel and curled up in a ball. It hurt so bad. I knew it was sinus squeeze and gritted my teeth and waited. After one of the longest hours of my life, I finally felt the pressure start to subside. It took about another hour for things to get back to normal.
As the pressure relaxed, my vision came back to normal and I was okay. I did get an eye examine by my doctor to make sure there was no damage. Since then I have never dove with congestion. I don’t want to experience that pain ever again.

Thank you for sharing your story with us @sammoyers905. Reverse Blocks are no jokes. I have had several fillings in my teeth and one crown (from a root Canal) pop off for the exact same reason. Pressure does not mess around.

    Get well soon!
I once also had an issue equalizing when coming back up, due to something i didnt even deem a cold. Its really something you dont want to happen.
From the swelling in the eustachian tubes to decreased memebrane flexibility, its better to pass on the dive.

You make a great point @reyneva. Things that we consider very minor can cause major issues underwater, and equalization issues due to swollen eustachian tubes tends to get over looked.

Great advice!! I once had to cancel a dive while on vacation in Florida because of a pesky kidney stone.

Hello @drewmcvicker1445, I completely understand the pain of a kidney stone, I got my first one back in fall of 2024. It was the worst pain I have ever felt. I was driving when it hit me, and almost wreck while heading to work. Got rushed to the ER by our local EMS. I could have sworn someone had stabbed me with a jagged knife and was constantly twisting it in circles.

Hope you get well soon! May I ask what resort you will be at? I just came back from Bonaire, stayed at Captain Don's Habitat and thoroughly enjoyed my trip.

Well, when I just feel a bit sick, I may went diving but I wouldn’t dive deep, but if I feel very sick or if I didn’t sleep well or not enough, I just don’t went diving.
So I always recommend to listen to your body.

You make a great point @benheckendorn2696, you should always listen to your body, and definitely make sure you get enough sleep.

Another time we can have this type of barotrauma (reverse sinus squeeze) is with allergies. Reverse sinus squeeze can be very painful when trying to return to the surface. It could even delay your return to the surface to the point of putting you into a decompression situation. And damage the tissues lining the sinuses. It;s possible to cause enough damage to end your diving career and / or damage your hearing. These are just some examples of what could happen. I hope everyone understands this is not something to mess with.

Hello @jeffconley6366, reverse blocks in general are usually skimmed over in training a lot of times. But for the ones of us that have had them, they are a very serious matter. You make a great point as well, it may cause you to find yourself in a decompression situation or worse, and out of air emergency if you can't ascend because of a reverse block.

I disagree slightly and kind of joking me kinda... I think driving is the medicine... Although I may take it into consideration And not do anything technical And limits my Depths Sometimes sitting At forty feet Just.
Hovering. And talking to god Never had any emergency problems And I one hundred percent feel better every time Then again I tend to not take medicine For things like this

Diving is always the answer @revtechmarine, looking forward to our next trip together. By the way, I have some great news for June, hint, hint. News that we have been discussing for a while. I found a solution to our problem.
