So many familiar places to me. I live in Finland and have been in many of those places from Bergen to the far north, but I have done my journeys by my motorhome. My dream is to make that Hurtigruten cruise some day.
Did this with my family last year and it was such a fantastic experience provided by Hurtigruten as we had always wanted to explore Norway’s coast. Planning another cruise with Hurtigruten in 2024 and we may do one of their HX trips down to Antarctica in 2025! Thank you for the video
I was on the Trollfjord with my mom as well in April 2022. We had the trip before you and had the time of our lives 😍 We disembarked in Bergen on April 21st, the day you embarked :)
We treasure our beautiful memories of our trip in March! What an extraordinary country !!! This is lying deep in my heart ! Will go back any day! Thank you for sharing!!
I was in 15 or so when my journalist father who wrote one of the first accounts of the Hurtigruten for a mass audience (Reader's Digest), so it was the summer of 1970 or 1971. Back then it was not the popular tourist trip it is now: yes, there were passenger cabins, but it definitely felt more like hitchhiking on a commercial ship. As sometimes happens, odd memories: I liked visiting the engine room (still can smell it - probably diesel), discovering and liking the Norwegian equivalent to the European Orangina drink onboard called "Solo". It's still a thing in Norway today. The beautiful wooden architecture, especially the stave churches that looked something out of a medieval village. Then an embarrassing moment where I did a stupid young teen-age thing: as we crossed the Russian border briefly in a bus, I yelled out something dumb like "Shoot me, I'm American" to a Russian border guard who had a gun outside of the bus. My dad smacked me for it, and I deserved it. But I still have fond memories from our stay in Bergen and the whole trip itself. A unique experience with unmatched scenery and towns visited along the way.
My great grand parents were from this far north area. I just wish we knew the actual name. We were just told”on the Lapland border”. Thanks for showing this area! 😊
Hi there. I just found your channel this morning. Thanks for this video. It was a great reminder of our trip at the beginning of this year. I`m busy watching your other vids now. Cheers, Pete.
Brought back nice memories of our 12 day B-K-B trip on the Kong Harald in February 2020. We didn't manage to get upto the Cape either due to snowfalls but how incredible was the winter scenery. Like your mum we fancy doing the summer voyage to get contrasting perspectives. Thankfully we saw the lights a couple of times. Norway is stunning, and expensive!
We also did B-K-B in early April. Better weather but more snow. Only one night with a bit of the Northern Lights. In all, it was a most delightful cruise.
My Grandmother and her family were from the Bergen area, but South to Paradis and Nesttun . I sure would like to see these small towns at the North end of a long lake or maybe it is actually a fiord.? I hope someone will shoe the area!😊
Lovely., but the trip was too fast. There wasn't time to enjoy the stops along the way. Also I thought there was a ceremony when you cross the Arctic circle. I would have liked a tour of your room, amenities and the boat. Greetings from Canada.
Hi Cheryl. I covered the trip in more detail (featuring the food, time in port etc) in a series of three films from an earlier trip. You'll find them on the channel - the first is called Bergen to Trondheim and the other two then follow.
I knew you would get punished for all that nice weather between Bergen and Bodø. April is the time for it of course, but you can't make it all the way up that coast without at least seeing a cloud.
We are considering a cruise of the Norwegian coastline from Oslo to Honningsvag, however, I am concerned about sea sickness. How rough was the voyage? Whih time of year would you recommend for the least chance of experiencing rough seas?
From Bergen to Honningsvag most of the voyage follows channels away from the open sea. The rough seas that I have experienced were when the vessel sails from Honningsvag to Kirkenes as the Barents Sea can be tricky at any time.
Did you see the northern lights or was it too cloudy or not the right season? Thinking about doing something like this but the idea of going in the dead of winter doesn’t seem like as much fun as April.
Not really the right season and it was cloudy in the very far north. Seeing the aurora is so hit and miss that if I were you I would prioritise the landscape. Personally I can't see much point in doing the voyage in the winter when there's little daylight and the weather is at its worst. In April there's a chance of the aurora during the short nights but it should be seen as a lucky bonus.
The only ports where you have 4 hours are Ålesund (depending on the season), Trondheim, Tromsø, and Honninsvåg. 4 hours is just enough to get a flavour of the place but can feel rushed. It's all about the voyage.
Hurtigruten is not a cruise ship. It is an ordinary coastal route that transports people and goods along the Norwegian coast. Although it also has a scheme for tourists, it is a vital necessity for the people who live along the challenging Norwegian coast.
I looked into this cruise and sadly the amount of time in each port is not enough time to eat let alone see anything, so I would definitely choose a different cruise, Other option would be to catch Hurtigruten on a point to point trip and make your way up the coast instead of a 7 day trip, so you get ample time to explore the great country. These are just ferries that carry goods and passengers to isolated ports and they want to make extra money on tourists.
I suggest respectfully that in a city you think needs 10 hours to visit you spend less time sitting with that cup of coffee and more time moving about; otherwise informative video
Terrible service, no value for the money. This company had a monopoly far too long. And still everyone believes what the perfect Hurtigruten marketing machine is trying to make us believe. And since everyone paid so much money for the trip nobody admits that it was not money well spent. We had bad experiences and Hurtigruten did hardly anything to support.
Nothing melts the heart more than bringing the special lady on your special trips...
Love the narration, your mom is adorable. Trondheim is definitely worth 10 hours and more
Thank you 😊
A WONDERFUL VIDEIO - THANK YOU !!!

Well done! good job man.
Well presented video. Could have done with seeing more on board.
Thank you! You'll find the earlier Hurtigruten films on the channel show more onboard features like the food options etc

Thank you. It's an incredible trip isn't it?
Yep , it is. We have been up there in summer and winter. Not sure which I like best !

Great stuff once again.

I and my wife had traveled on trollfjord in 2003
Superb, Jonathan. Thank you for sharing your adventure.
Thank you Rod!
Great idea to take your mom on this cruise. I’m thinking to do the same on my mom’s 70 birthday later this year .
Go for it!
I did that trip for 12 days, the map directions was along Norway but it really feels like I was at Canadian borders:))
nice film
Remember Trollfjords classic siren well
Did the trip there and back in October 2008. Ridiculous onboard Norwegian prices.
great job with this video!
Thanks!

Trollfjord is legend ship because only this ship has photos king and queen of norway

Went on this cruise about 5 years ago. It was wonderful. However, one problem was not being allowed to take pictures in the Nidaros cathedral. Absurd!
+ the entrance fees 10 Euros.... while inside preaching God is Free 🤣
Thanks for the video. It's soo good. In April when was it ? Start , mid or end ?
Thanks! We left Bergen on 21 April
@@TravelObscurer Thanks for your reply. what camera gear do you use ?
@@TravelObscurer you can mention which camera you used .
@@PuneethSrinivas Hi Puneeth. I have a Sony FDR-AX33 and a DJI Pocket 2
@@TravelObscurer thanks 👍
You could come in Italy with mom, if she likes a less cold place... there is no video of Italy in your channel
The channel definitely needs some Italian videos! Grazie mille.
The border used to be open to Russia. I think Murmansk.
I kinda expect more from hurtigurten cruise ship

Given that my mother is 80, respectfully, dashing around the sights was not an option on this visit.
Just captions & no talking would be better. You're not doing Race the World. Nice filming though.
No way. Love this guy’s voice and delivery!
One of the most irritating movies. Switching scenes after 2 seconds is annoying.

The best trip and service ever, are you sure you go whit Hurtigruten? Maybe you go onboard on wrong ship 😂😂😂
