What a beautiful tribute that the amazing Elton John gave for Brian Wilson.
Pet Sounds is the single greatest American contribution to rock music.
Facts
@Albert Halsey England completely owns rock and roll. They borrowed from Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson, Elmore James, Little Richard, Albert King, John Lee Hooker, BB King. America was too racist to get it. England got it all.
So true. If you don't count Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper's and the White Album
@@matteowatteo1296 oh hell naw they don't. Rock came from the black people in America... look it up. And wdym "America was too racist to get it."?? Your shitty ass comment makes no sense
Yes, the only American competition to the beatles. McCartney and Wilson had the most respectful rivalry
Brian Wilson and Elton John on stage together. It couldn't be nicer.
Wouldn't it be nicer?
(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Steve
Wouldn’t it be nicer?😂
Edit: shit didn’t know someone else wrote that
It could, with Paul McCartney.
Has there ever lived a more humble man than Brian Wilson.
he totally is. I love him.
Idk, Mike Love gives him a run for his money 😂💀😂💀😂
No, is the only reasonable answer I can give!
So humble that his genius wasn't recognized enough. Well known Trailblazers like Elton and McCartney were influenced by him, yet he never has (and probably doesn't want) to receive the credit he deserves.
The pope.
Even at Brians age & condition he was in at this time, he can still blow away 90% of the new artists today. He will always be a beast of a writer and musician.
Brian was actually in good condition at this time, his live shows from the late 90s and early 2000s were really good
Bro please stop you don’t look cool by living in the past and not knowing any great modern musicians.
@@A1varoRubio2004 I know it's fun to dunk on people who like old stuff but it's okay to admit that there are very few songwriter/composers working today who can match the caliber of Brian Wilson.
@@A1varoRubio2004 Why don't you enlighten us old people by telling us who these great modern day musicians are--you know---the one's as talented & as great as Brian Wilson, Elton John, Howlin Wolf, Elmore James, Emerson Lake & Palmer, The Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, Janice Joplin, Rolling Stones, Patti Smith, Cass Elliot, Gram Parsons, David Bowie, The Bee Gees, Leon Russell, Prince, Alice Cooper, Bob Dylan, Tina Turner, Carol King, Neil Young, Etta James, Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues, Eric Burdon & The Animals, Donovan, The Cure, Mark Smith, Deep Purple, The Doors, etc etc etc ................... & etc etc etc..............

Brian..Looking At Elton.
Very Strong
Holy sht john and Brian’s voices have an amazing cadence when they sing in unison
Yes!
It’s like a dream coming true for Elton.
Brian Wilson is the Biggest Surf Up of all time so no wonder that
Elton John wants to ride the Big musical wave with him!!!!
Isn't it ironic that we spend the first half of our lives wishing we were older so life can start and the last half of our lives wondering how it went by so fast? :)
Two greats: Elton John and The Beach Boys! What could be better??
I cannot go bed at night before l havent lissend to this worldwide perfekt duo Brian Wilsom and Elton John . Every evening I lissen to these two geneous musician .

It's an honor to just listeing to this song. It makes you smarter. Lol love you Brian
This video is a hidden gem.....the two of them can never be touched in Rock History.....
Two geniuses together here.
Yes
You got it😊
sounds nice. great!!!
If they are both geniuses, and I DO consider Elton a genius, then by comparison to Brian, Elton is a genius spelled with a little g, compared to Brian, whos genius is spelled witj a BIG G.
Even Elton admits this.

Such a thoughtful speech from Elton. So nice. Brian's just absorbing it deservedly,
Brian. You do deserve it and the Jardine s also. I hope you all understand what God is doing in your life.even today!!! BH
Thank you Brian Wilson..what a genius of a man and a great human being. God bless
Elton is a class fucking act

That face Brian is showing, is NOT a scowl!
Brian is DEEP in concentration.
A KILLER keyboardist, next to a KILLER
keyboardist, and pick'em. Who is better,
who cares. Who wins, every single listener!
Only other famous "competition" Brian
and Sir Paul. Paul did Rubber Soul, and
hit it out of the park. Inspired Brian to
do Pet Sounds. Which pushed Paul to
do Sgt. Pepper.
Paul had a LOT of others to help, including
2 guys named George. Brian had his brothers,
and Alan. Had to carry his BRAIN DEAD cousin
along, too. It is a wonder Brian is still around.

THAT WAS GREAT 👍
March 2001 -- just 6 months before America was changed forever. This country hasn't really been free since.
George Harrison died that year as well
@@Noah1997callahan That's right! I remember thinking how sad it was that he had survived long enough to have at least heard about what happened in the country that made him an icon. Maybe not. I hope he's resting in peace.
zero doubt brian Wilson is a musical genius
Future music lovers should consider him in the same vein as Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven.
He "heard" it all, in his head, at an early age. Listen to the Wrecking Crew, session musicians par excellance from his era, talk about his genius.
Never mind alway.s 'Love yeah Brian and Elton. .
My two favorite artist's on stage together. ❤ Such respect and admiration for one another. This was an epic moment. The genius of these two men is beyond!!
Can you imagine being an up and coming musician and when you hit it big you get to play/sing with the band or person who YOU looked up to when you were up and coming?
I'm sure Elton was thrilled to death!
And then realizing the old timer you looked up to can still go, all these years later, and your struggling to keep up.
austin teutsch technically elton opened for the beach boys during a tour in the early 70's but brian wasnt thire
Brian Wilson is a true American Treasure....He created such BEAUTIFUL Melodies that always make me feel Very Happy. Love U, Brian.
I know brian hes anything but humble as long as its about him yes but no not humble hes a genious with alot of problems
worldwide legend
You are right so much love and fun happy beautiful music
Just wish Carl could have been there 😪
He is all that and a bag of chips but can be a asshole to lol
The most brilliant Brian Wilson composition IMO.
My God! These two are who they are!!!!
Elton's intro is so lovely.
It is, Lisa.
Yes! it is a truly heartfelt intro. I wish I understood the technique he referred to. I will get someone to explain that to me.
@@patriciarussell6683When you look at a C major chord, the triad consists of the root note (C), the third note (E) and the fifth note (G). Normally a composer will play chords with the root note in the bass. So, when playing a C major or minor chord, the C is also used as the bass note. Brian however used those thirds and fifths to create different chords. For example, after the intro, God Only Knows starts of in D, but the bass note is A (fifth note). I believe he did it quite often when writing a song. Surf's Up is another song that springs to mind when it comes to using this trick. I know Elton used it on the intro of Someone Saved My Life Tonight. I'm far from an expert, but maybe it helps you to put Eltons story in context ;)
To EltonBeatles: you ARE an expert.
@@EAP--, I agree.
I'll get my musical brothers

elton doesn't give out praise unless it's well deserved and brian sure as fuck deserves it
Brilliance and genius.
Brian is such a humble and gracious man. His cousin could stand to take a few lessons from him.
They sound so good.
The Harmony! But, the contrast. Elton is so animate, Brian is so still.
Elton looks like he doesn't know what to do without a piano....
Right!
He definitely doesn't and ll-//
Yes, but he's in great voice!
Sir Elton, Ya know Brian doesn't like to be called a genius but we, the world do not mean to disrespect Brian, we can't help but call him a genius, because that is what he is. So Sorry Brian but we love U!
Brian sounds great here.
Brian wrote such beautiful songs, a fucking master for sure.
bob tucker Brian was so music guy more than a songwriter. He almost always had people help him with lyrics. Great songs. Love the group so many years.
@@corinneyaworski308 No.
For some reason there is this persistent belief that Brian Wilson does not write lyrics. The truth is more complicated.
He absolutely does write lyrics - and he’s a fine, if quirky, lyricist - and there are many songs that are credited only to him.
He does prefer to work with a co-writer, however, someone who can help articulate his lyrical ideas. Gary Usher who co-wrote several songs with him in 1962 and again in 1986 has said that Brian Wilson is a being of complete emotion; he gets so carried away by emotion that he has trouble articulating.
Other writers have mentioned that Brian needs a co-writer mainly because he needs assurance that his idea is good before he goes on.
There is no magic formula to writing a song and it’s no difference with Brian Wilson than anyone else. Some of his contributions to songs ( a few songs written with Andy Paley, for example) have been mainly lyrical, though generally speaking, it works the other way around with him.
Tony Asher has said that the words he wrote were his (i.e., Tony Asher’s); but the ideas were culled from conversations he had had with Wilson.
Similarly, Van Dyke Parks wrote all or almost all of the words of SMiLE; but he was hired by Brian to write about themes that resonated with him: American history, the pioneer movement, mass immigration from Europe and the genocide of the American Indian.
With many of his songs co-written with Mike Love, Brian would often write the music for the song and the words of the chorus, maybe one line of verse and Mike would finish the words of the verses. (“California Girls”, for example was written this way.) On “I Get Around”, another famous Wilson/Love hit, Brian wrote the words to the chorus and the words to the second verse; Love wrote the first verse and the opening “round”, which Brian then embellished with harmony.
Still at other times songwriters have been given a song with a complete set of lyrics and merely edited them, keeping his ideas mosty intact (Help Me Rhonda); or rewrote them completely ("Surf City", orignally called “Goodie Connie Won’t You Please Come Home). Collaborators like Scott Bennett, Andy Paley have also contributed much to the music as well.
Here are some songs that he wrote both lyrics and music to:
“Time To Get Alone”
“Til I Die:”
“Wind Chimes”
“I’ll Be He’s Nice”
“Still I Dream Of It”
“Love and Mercy” (Eugene Landy may have contributed a line to this one)
And more recently:
Oxygen to the Brain
Brian Wilson is a brilliant composer and when you come to realize he has hearing loss it reminds one of another genuis Beethoven.
Like I had said some time ago, an Elton John and Brian Wilson collaborative effort would have been outstanding back in the day. Or now. Ya never know!
I wonder just how nice this, sung A Capella.

Brian Wilson - a genius
I love Brian Wilson so much. His music saved my life. My children will grow up with the beach boys
such harmony beautifullllllll love it brings back such memories of the carefree times beach boys were the best never heard such harmony .
Two humans on a completely different level musically than most people who've ever existed on the planet.
Brian Wilson is leagues better then Elton John.
@@fshoaps What league? They're both spectacular icons in the history of rock and roll. Nobody is "leagues better" than Elton John.
@@fshoaps Nah, he’s a genius for sure but Elton John is still fucking Elton John
Wow What a Rare Find!!!! Terrific!!!!!!
2 legends brian you are the best for what you did
They both were a genius ❤❤ Beach Boys harmony was beautiful! Makes me feel good😊😊
Beach Boys pure magic from heaven!
Great harmony!
My grandmother asked me if The Beach Boys could afford to pay for her house (it was Brian). I told her I had no doubt they'd be able to pay for it. That was the one that Brian filled the living room with sand. I saw Mike Love on the street in Santa Monica by himself and asked him if that was true and he confirmed that it was. There was a lot of good music in that house before Brian. My grandmother ( a retired opera singer) and her dad used to sit at the piano after family dinners and belt out Puccini arias when I was a kid.
OH THAT HARMONY CHORD AT 2:14 and 3:06. I love how Elton and Brian can go from singing melody to harmony and back to melody so seamlessly.
yeah i basically melted at 3:12. A little of that Elton soul fits right in. My goodness. This tune.
Pet Sounds! Brilliant!!
Brian is such a sweetheart. You can’t not love him, it’s impossible!
BEACH BOYS FOREVER
Brian Wilson, one of the very rare artists that can be mentioned in the same breath as John Lennon and Paul McCartney, in my humble opinion. Genius still in 2021.
How much does Sir Elton love singing this song!
Elton is so nice saying those things. What a guy....
I think Pet Sounds , is Great. Thanks for the best music ever. Richmond,Va
Yeah let's talk about ... Yeah... Wouldn't. What ever love you guy's.
Good Job MR Elton John
I had a 6th grade teacher that resembled Brian Wilson. But he was nothing like him otherwise.
If only they had just released Smile back in the day, popular music could've been completely different
Elton is loving it up there
What a treasured moment!
This is just magnificent, jesus, two music geniuses singing a beautiful song together. I highly suggest everyone read Brian Wilson's autobiography Wouldn't it Be Nice.
Couldn't be any two people to team up and sing this song so great. God bless everyone
Brian Wilson has been one of my childhood heroes since the 60's. The man is a mastermind. Imagine how much more he could have done if he's father wouldn't have beat him down like he did. Elton John is right up there with Brian. They broke the mold when they were both born. 🤙🏻🤙🏻😎

Nothing Elton has done...has come even close to what the Beach boys have done
This was lovely

Elton John...always such class. Two geniuses with talent beyond comprehension on a stage together. Thank you for this gift!
Just doesn’t get any better than this.
Lotta talent right there.
Being a musician I agree with what Elton John said about how Brian writes his songs. He puts chords in places those chords don't normally go and it works. That's one of the things that makes him a musical genus.
brian is a giant in the making of music
Two of the most brilliant men in music. This is where the standard should be, before a nomination or allow musicians into the rock of fame.
What a lovely man Brian Wilson is. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIAN!!
Never seen Elton so humbled in a performance, at this moment he knew he had to play nice and sing behind someone elses difficult harmonies that demanded you leave your alpha ego at home
