Aer Lingus 1960s

Le Boeing 720 est un succès pour Aer Lingus et ses vols transatlantiques. En 1964, la compagnie reçoit son premier Boeing 707. La conversion vers une flotte européenne constituée à 100 % d'avions à réaction démarre en 1965 quand le premier BAC 1-11 commence un service de Dublin et Cork vers Paris et via Manchester vers Amsterdam, Copenhague, Dusseldorf et Francfort. En 1966, les dernières parts détenues par Aer Rianta sont transférées au ministère irlandais des Finances.
En 1966, les routes de Shannon vers Montréal et Chicago sont inaugurées.
En 1968, des vols au départ de Belfast en Irlande du Nord vers New York débutent. Le service est bientôt annulé en raison du début du conflit nord-irlandais. 1969 voit l'introduction du Boeing 737 dans la flotte d'Aer Lingus pour répondre à la forte demande sur la ligne Dublin-Londres. Aer Lingus étend progressivement les vols en 737 sur tout son réseau européen.
The Boeing 720s proved to be a success for the airline on the transatlantic routes. To supplement these, Aer Lingus took delivery of their first larger Boeing 707 in 1964, and the type continued to serve the airline until 1986.
Conversion of the European fleet to jet equipment began in 1965 when the BAC One-Eleven started services from Dublin and Cork to Paris and via Manchester to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt.
In 1966, the company inaugurated a route from Shannon to Montreal and onward to Chicago. In 1968, flights from Belfast, in Northern Ireland, to New York City started, however it was soon suspended due to the beginning of the Troubles. Aer Lingus introduced Boeing 737s to its fleet in 1969 to cope with the high demand for flights between Dublin and London. Later, Aer Lingus extended the 737 flights to all of its European network.
