    If the tsunami brought you from 30 meters to 2 meters, and back down, what is the danger of decompression sickness? Had you been at depth for long?

    • @jesusofbullets
      @jesusofbullets ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not that bad actually. Minor discomfort from the pressure change, but 30 meters isn't far down enough to really cause the bends. Now if it was 100 meters then that could definitely be an issue. Speaking from experience having to go from 25 meters back to the surface because of an oxygen emergency.

    • @DIVEWITHSTEBE
      @DIVEWITHSTEBE 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Late response but decompression wouldn’t be the issue as long as they weren’t at that depth for an extended period. It can absolutely happen but is more common in greater depths. The thing I’d be scared of the most would be your lungs over expanding when you shot to the surface. We’re taught to exhale during emergency ascents but with zero visibility and such a quick change you might be too disoriented to know what’s happening.

      Not the best option. In a tsunami, the entire water column is displaced so literally no matter how deep down you went the current would hit you. It’s not a surface wave so you can’t escape it by swimming deep down.

    • @reyhugo4879
      @reyhugo4879 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Don’t ever do that !, lets say you try to go as deep as you can, add the height of the tsunami, thats how much water will be over you, the sudden change of pressure will kill you immediately ( if you are lucky)

    • @amitysea

    In the event of an emergency or something similar you can cancel your safety stop. Actually as a dive master as a duty of care you MUST cancel your safety stop to ensure everyone else is safe after a crazy event like that. As a precaution should all go to a hospital with a chamber since going to 17m to 2m twice in less than 5 seconds would cause a very high risk of DCS even with a safety stop.

    i googled it...but i think it's because out at sea, a tsunami wave is the same size as other waves so it doesn't really make a difference

    why is it best to be in deep water during tsunami? isn't it best to get to high ground?

    • @finalfanta15
      @finalfanta15 10 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Because of the nature of how a Tsunami moves. A tsunami is completely harmless out in open water and in fact you wouldn't know it if it hit you if you were in a boat. A tsunami is basically just water displacement, so until the Tsunami hits land there isn't anywhere the water is forcefully moved to. Once this energy hits land, all of a sudden there is this extra water that has to go somewhere and the only place it can go is into the mainland.

      @Sooper35 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Monica Reynolds It's best to stay on a boat in deep water because you're essentially floating above the destructive current. When you're out in the open ocean, a tsunami travels very fast and is dispersed in a larger area - you wouldn't notice it from above. However, when a tsunami approaches shallower water, the wave slows down and picks up height and that's when it becomes dangerous for boats. It is by no means the safest place to be when diving as the video shows. You could easily drown trying to fight that current and you could slam into reef.

    the place place to be during a tsunami is NOT necessarily the water. deep ocean is fine but you cant be chillin on the shoreline.

    what I do during a tsunami:
    day 1: jump in the pool
    day 2: get my swimsuit and my pool stuff and go in the tsunami
    day 3: just go in a really tall hotel and watch it and take a video of it
    btw there is no natural disasters at where I live xD
