I am a witness at Vizhinjam in Trivandrum dst. I was asked urgently to accompany Tahsildar Neyyattinkara to Vizhinjam at 7AM on 26th December 2004 for giving necessary directions to the local people due to the rare phenomenon of excelling of sea water to land. Lengthy sheds of fishermen near sea shore where Catamarans, fishingnets and other equipments were kept were affected and fire and rescue personals were removing all these things to safest place. In certain intervals we were covered by sea water up to knee. When the water retrieved we were forced to pull back. But fortunately we were safe. We did not know what was happening. I wondered whether it was Tsunami as I had studied in the P S C Examination. Quite surprisingly another official who reached there at noon, after hearing news from Radio and TV it was Tsunami. He said that a number of people died in kulachal, Kanyakumari, Kollam, Karunagapally etc. We were surprised that we had lived and overcame the casualties. We thanked God. Later in the evening we knew that it was a wold wide phenomenon. Sad demise to those who departed in the Tsunami. S. Venugopal Neyyattinkara 😞

TN government did not give tsunami warning even though they knew about this. They ignored it. These people had no idea that tsunami is about to come. The Collector of our district fleed from here without warning about tsunami and did not help us through it. So the numbers who have died and the importance is not given that much to us.... It was a disaster.
It is the first time when tsunami was found...so the people's have no idea what will the sea do after it goes inside..that's why they have waited for the water to come back
A life tip: If you see high tides run perpendicular to the sea. Dont run in the beach road which is always parallel. People tend to run in beach road in panic. Which don't help .
