I wonder if you could add a stiffener by doing a carbon fiber or fiberglass layup around the perimeter. I'm sure even a layer or two would increase stiffness substantially
I love the project! I wouldn’t use CF in plastic that touches the lines, its abrasive nature could damage them over time. Look forward to seeing version two
@@CalebJohnsonlivingca I've been looking at Al using 3D printed parts only for some of the joints on the cage, but there are a very limited range of Al streamlined extrusions out there (Wicks Aircraft). If the hoop flex can be reduced, this becomes a really intriguing option. BTW, really loved the integral netting loops you did!
Great work!!!! I am also making my on main frame with carbon fiber tubes. I am planning to use 16mm diameter tubes. What diameter and thickness tubes did you use? Is tha main rami strong enough? For the engne support I am planning to use carbonfiber plate but I see you are using aluminium. Why? Do you think that CB plate wont be strong enough to mount the engine? Is there any chance that I could buy you the 3D printed joints and make the frame the same as yours? For the ring or cage, I am planning to use titanium 12mm diameter tube. Thanks for sharing and looking forward for your opinion on my CB frame project ;)
My frame used 14mm (2mm wall) tubes. If I did it again, I'd bump them up to at least 16mm.... maybe even just go with 20mm with 1mm wall? I used the aluminum for two reasons: 1) SendCutSend will cut complex shapes for me and thread the holes. 2) I was concerned about vibration fatigue. The plates I ordered ended up being WAY overkill. You could lift a truck with the 7075 plates. Unless you can already weld titanium, I'd just go with aluminum; that's my plan for v2. Don't build my exact design, it had lots of issues, some big and some small.

i'm not an engineer or anything but what if it were coated with acrylic or something?
@@nindoninshu I did experiment a little with acrylic paint actually. It sorta works, but the plastic still needs sanded first which makes a huge mess.
