      我覺得這種煮法有點兒不對勁。鴨腸其實有很多細菌,必須煮三分鐘左右。我在台灣吃火鍋時先把毛肚煮兩三分鐘才吃。不然不熟。

      Frankly, I don't like "rubber band" either. I don't eat all the weird stuffs when I am having my hotpot. I always keep teasing my friends who dip in the pig brain that they would catch mad-pig disease. :-)

    • @blacksagegrandmaster7699
      @blacksagegrandmaster7699 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, the pizzle stuffs have always been on the restaurants' menu. They are just used to exploit people's stupid belief that it could help boost their hormones and sexual potency (which is completely false). I don't order these at all. Just eat your normal meat and veggies for your hotpot. The weird stuffs are just to fool those new to hotpot.

    Hi Amy, most impressed with the humorous heroism of yr mum and dad. My mum's from Sidney, and raised me in tasting all sorts of foreign food, so I hope this has remained a cosmopolitan Aussie tradition, and we're all so lucky you shared this great moment of adventure, for cultural curiosity and love of new experiences' sake!
    Can't have too much of this, nowadays!
    As for western cultures, some ought to know that tripes, and ox tongue, etc... have been used for centuries in Scotland or France, and Italy too, and considered top notch delicacies, except we don't drown them in chillie broth, witch is a hazard for some people's health... Some of that tradition could stem from those bits going off a little fast, in semi-tropical climate, as a preventive antiseptic...
    Thanks for a delightful share in your adventure, and stay well and sound for more fun in traveling!

    the longer you cook the tripe/intestine/tongue the chewy they become so that's why they taste like rubber. If you cook just at the right time, they are in between a little chewy and crispy, which is the best state.

    in fact, the 毛肚 will be too hard if the cooking time is too long. so timing is important. Similarly, the mutton or beef thin slicing, cooking just 20 secs max, the taste will be great and tender. if too long, it is hard and taste drops a lot.

    Btw, should use a “hot pot spoon” especially for parents, looks so difficult with just chopsticks, easy to lose the meat in the sea of pot

    What a lovely family!And I really like Chongqing hotpot although I didn’t eat it before I went to college.Because I come from Fuanjian where people can’t eat spicy.The hotpot here is always based on seafood soup. But I think everyone would fell in love with Chongqing hotpot because it tastes so strong!

    One of the specialties of hotpot is you can have a bit of everything. So a change of texture from maodu (or all the other exotic ingredients) is interesting to your palate and adds a bit of layer. Some people really liked the chewy texture so they dig in, I would have a couple pieces if others ordered it, or if you are not a fan of certain texture that's totally fine too.

    little suggestions for the hotpot: 1) use separate chopsticks for cooking and eating to ensure hygiene and 2) when you cook food with your chopsticks, make sure to move the food around(with your chopstick) instead of holding it still to ensure the entire piece of intestine is cooked.

      Bruh, nobody uses a separate pair of chopsticks for cooking and eating lol. No bacteria would survive the boiling soup, it's just your mind finding it unhygienic.

      Haha that's what I noticed too and thought of bringing up!! But wondered if anyone else bothered with using separate chopsticks for handling raw food.
      My parents taught us as kids having steamboat to use different chopsticks/utensils for handling raw food. But I have noticed friends who don't have this practice.

      That's not true. I do lol!! It's what I was taught as a child. If you place your chopsticks to '"cook" for some time after handling raw food, it's fine. But sometimes people pick the raw meat and drop it in the soup and then use the same pair of chopsticks to eat the cooked food. Won't necessarily make you sick but if you get food poisoning, that could be why.....
