The Accutron brings back memories. I'm 74 now and I remember working for the Royal Typewriter Company in New York City as a mechanic in the late 60's. I was making 110 dollars a week and the Accutron, if I remember correctly, cost me around 200 bucks. That was more than 2 weeks salary after taxes but it was so cool looking and I was proud to wear it. Don't remember what happened to it but I had it for a good while and enjoyed it. I don't wear a watch anymore but when I need to I wear a 24 dollar Casio that has a stop watch, lights up in the dark, has much alarms, tells me what time it is in countries all over the world and best of all has a 10 year battery. I hope I live long enough to replace the battery.😄
You're only 74. If you undertake all the current scientific protocols which promote longevity, I'm sure you'll not only live for decades to come but even get biologically younger than you are right now. Look it up. Simple lifestyle changes can have a dramatic impact.
@@fVNzO Thanks for the encouraging news. I live a pretty healthy lifestyle and see my doctor on a regular basis but, there are no guarantees in life. I try to enjoy one day at a time and take it from there.
It's so exciting to see watch manufacturers developing new things like this. It really shows that we're not done yet with innovative technologies in wristwatches. It's nice to see that the ubiquity of smartwatches and smartphones haven't stopped the desire to continue pushing the envelope.
@@theurbangentry I think with how the world is going tech wise it will match the era we are headed with its sci fi looks. For me digital watches lost that sci fi aspect years ago
Nearly half a century ago, I had the original Spaceview Accutron tuning fork watch, and loved it. Somewhere along the meanderings of life, it got lost or stolen. When I saw this new Accutron Spaceview 2020, I was enthralled, even though the technology is completely different from the original. I agree with TGV's assessment that this is destined to be a watch of historical importance. I dove in, bought one, and have had it for over 6 months now. I love it, and it's become my favorite watch in my modest collection. However, there are a few negatives: in order to conserve power, the second hand shuts down at the 12 o'clock position if the watch has been stationary for five minutes (for example while driving, or sitting) . It continues to "keep time" but it doesn't move. The hour and minute hands do continue to move. In order to "wake it up", you have to bend and straighten your arm at the elbow about 5-6 times. Why is this important? Well it turns out that the original 1960's marketing saying, "its not a timepiece, it's a conversation piece" is absolutely true. However, when someone asks about the watch, it is inevitably in "sleep mode" for the second hand. The beautiful, mesmerizing, spinning electrostatic engine turbine at the 10:00 position on the dial stops turning while in sleep mode). You then have to do the "Accutron shake" to wake it up, which, frankly, is a bit silly. I'd like to suggest a technological solution to Citizen/Accutron: Add an eco-drive photoelectric component to the Spaceview 2020 so that the electrostatic second hand engine does not have to shut down so frequently to conserve power. By the way, when you do wake up the second hand/electrostatic motor, it sweeps slowly for about a minute until it catches up to where the second "would have been" had it not shut down, and then it rotates around the dial at the appropriate speed.....absolutely brilliant! The accuracy of this piece is essentially equivalent to a quartz watch, despite the fact that it is essentially has an automatic style rotor that charges the electrostatic components. I hope that Citizen/Accutron have big plans to develop this technology further, to miniaturize it, and to add complications like day-date, GMT. I'd like to see Tritium markers instead of standard lume, and the 12:00 marker should be different from the others, like you see in most dive watches.
I purchased my Spaceview new in 1973 with high school graduation money. It turns out it was a 1971 model which had been sitting in the store waiting for me to purchase it. At least one of the advertised rationales for the back-mounted crown was: it doesn't need winding and it is so accurate you will not often need to reset the time. Cool stuff! I still have my Spaceview and it is in my rotation. Good vid. Keep at it!
This review was a long time coming. Well done. I love your editing. BY FAR the most entertaining and romanticized as well as utterly magnetizing channel for horology on youtube. 5 stars sir, 5 stars.
When I first got into watches (6 years or so), people were saying Bulova was going to focus on quartz "mall" watches - and get rid of the tuning fork logo. I'm SO glad they're going back and making autos, keeping the logo, and making fantastic original watches (as well as making new takes on classics). Very awesome of Bulova.
It's so big and I never, have never purchased a watch without the intent to wear it but like TGV says it's almost worth it just as a display piece of horology. Also fantastic video again! Super in depth deep dive into Accutron, super well done.
Now that I appreciate the price being reasonable relative to the cost of making it, I can really admire the achievement this watch represents. It's a marvelous device.
Yesssss, I've been waiting for you to review this watch! I've been fascinated by this watch ever since I heard you mention it on the channel, and I'm so glad to see you finally cover it!
Beautiful video… As I’m writing this, I am waiting for delivery of the gold special edition of the spaceview… Yes, I absolutely could not resist it once I saw a video of its unboxing ! Keep spreading the love, sir !!!
An Accutron Spaceview wrist watch was worn by astronaut Jeffrey Hoffman onboard space shuttle Discovery mission 51-D in April 1985. MoonwatchUniverse 🧐 Onboard the Lockheed A-12 Accutron wristwatches could only be worn if the pilots wore the David Clark S901-E pressure suit which had a watch pocket in the upper left glove.
What a fantastic review. I am a watch enthusiast, and am very much attracted to the technology of the Grand Seiko Spring Drive and now the Accutron electrostatic! This watch is large, but not oversized. I hate oversized watches, but this is the smallest, most efficient design they have at the moment for this brand new movement. It is not large to be large. It is miniature for what it is. To some, like me, this is an important distinction.
I'm an Instrumentation Technician. And as a hobby I do watch repairs. Someone just asked me to repair their 1970's Bulova Accutron N3 that recently had a leaked Battery. Beautiful piece of engineering. And I was only able to repair it because of how incredibly well it was made.. Brilliant video as always, cheers.
25 seconds in, and I’m already clicking the “like” button. Outstanding into as always. I went to the watch case and put on my 1969 Bulova Accutron Astronaut 214 just to watch this video. Yes, I’m a watch nerd. As is most likely everyone reading this comment! This is going to be a good one, mate.....
Brilliant video, I remember the first one you did on yours some years ago and have wanted one ever since. The movement in yours is a 214 which has the crown at the back . They later improved this with the 218 movement that had a conventional crown and additional day / date combinations . I have serviced many 218s and still find them totally fascinating. I only wished they had kept on making them, even as a re-release. Problem was when they got took over apparently all the “trade secret” tooling they had that made the index wheel was binned. I really wish you had touched on this in the video. The actual accomplishment to turn vibrations into moving gears. The idea is groundbreaking. The index wheel has some 320 + teeth on it, it’s 3/32” diameter (ish) and it has one revolution per second meaning 300+ beats per second making the tick the smoothest out there even by todays standard when you think a Rolex may be at 7-8 beats per second! All this in the 60s before modern CNC machinery . How they made those index wheels is a complete mystery and I come from a precision engineering background. Any serious watch collector needs an Accutron in their collection. The sad part is they continued to use the name and tuning fork logo even on conventional quartz watches which to me was a real shame. The last word is to the wise. There our countless remakes of the Spaceview on the internet and due to the TGV effect these things command a high price now and as such aftermarket crystals with the printed markers are available. As such it’s quite easy to convert any 214 watch to a spaceview for profit. So buyers beware, if you are after one of these then make sure you do your homework first.
The miniature turbines are mesmerizing. I'd love to see Accutron add a robust, 24-hour GMT version in keeping with the original Accutron "Astronaut" line and the application of Bulova's tuning fork technology in space. The larger size lends itself to pilot watches, and it could be a good value compared to many of the other brands making that complication.
I have an original Spaceview from 1962, so I just had to have a Spaceview 2020. I’m loving the 2020 and I get more compliments on it than I do any of my other more expensive watches from my collection. It really is a conversation piece!
These are my favorite type videos you do TGV. Love the history timepieces. Would love a top five historic/classic timepieces (that are not unreachable 5-10k) a grand or two grand and under would be awesome. Would love to see it.
Congratulations TGV: you are the only TH-camr that I insist on watching on the big screen. Your video quality has outgrown the world of cell phones. BTW, thanks for turning me on to Kurosawa. 7 Samurai last night. Rashomon tonight. VERY Cool stuff.
Without a doubt the most beautifully shot, produced and presented video that I've ever had the honor to view on TH-cam. I have the same vintage Spaceview model that you do, purchased decades ago. It still resides on a Spidel Twist-o-Flex band that the original owner put it on. Still works flawlessly. It's in my rotation also with a Speedmaster from 1971, a stainless w/gold fluted bezel Rolex Datejust from 1970, and a bracelet Bulova Lunar Pilot from 2016. The Bulova Lunar Pilot sees most of my daily wrist time. I love that watch and my larger wrist size can pull it off. I'm constantly blown away with the Lunar Pilot's design and build-quality...and how much you get for your money.
My uncle (by marriage) was an instructor for the JBSW (Joseph Bulova School of Watchmaking; defunct since 1992) for forty-three years and hooked me on horology and watches when I was twelve-years-old. I still have the (M6; 1966) Accutron 214 Spaceview my mother purchased through him from Bulova for her wedding gift to my father that year which is in pristine condition with the original outer and inner boxes, battery compartment wrench, and documents which is a treasured family heirloom. I possess original Bulova marketing and technical manual documents for Accutron he gave to my father which I still marvel at when I read them as the technology was incredible for the mid-twentieth century. While the Citizen Electrostatic Movement technology for the twenty-first century Accutron is quite impressive I'm a purist and will always favor the original tuning fork time piece that is a symbol of the greatest advances in innovation that brought us to where we are today.
Back in 2019, I bought a second hand Accutron Spaceview that had been serviced and restored online for about $500 Australian dollars. I'd never seen one in the flesh, but I had seen your review of it and was so impressed I wanted one for myself. So when this beautiful little watch showed up, skeleton dial and all, I fell in love with it instantly. It's very quirky, different, unlike anything else in my collection. When I left it on my bedside table, it used to hit the resonance frequency of the wood and make a low hum you could hear in the room. The watch also has an inscription on the back: "Al love Sue, 11-13-65". I don't know how this watch ended up online in Poland but I like the inscription very much. Only issue is the Accucell batteries for the watch run out much faster than expected!
I have a tremendous amount of respect for the engineering and r&d that went into this watch. If they succeed in getting the components smaller and thus reducing the size of their watch, then I would be interested in owning one.
Hey TGV! Looking forward to chilling with one of your new videos. Wouldn’t it be cool if the Citizen group could combine their Eco Drive with the sweep seconds of Bulova, to create like an ultimate movement? Thanks for the upload mate!
What a wonderful video. I love how you combine history with both technological and aesthetic appreciation. I have binged on your last seven years of videos over the last two months and you have brought a horological interest alive for me TGV. I particularly enjoyed this review of the Accutron Spaceview. Thank-you 🙂
No doubt, the best watches TH-cam channel. Now people like empty and shorts contents videos, and don't have patient to appreciate your work. Thank for your effort
Excellent video. They are definitely cutting edge with what they're doing. Owned by the right company as well, IMHO. Citizen has worked most of the kinks out of their solar/eco drives, it won't be long before they reduce this movement as well.
Just watched your vid again. I own an old Accutron 666 diver from 1968 - a gift from my elderly father. After a service by a German expert watchmaker at Accutrons, including a modification to allow the use of modern batteries, it runs like new and is very accurate. I love it. and I have to say these old Accutrons seem very reliable and not quite the "minefield" that many people criticize
I own both the 2020 and an original (convertion). I can not stress how special both are. Yes the 2920 is big, however it wears smaller due to the lug design. It also extremely light. I love both very much.
Great video! I was able to purchase one of the original 2020 SpaceView Limited Edition and it is a gorgeous watch. But what makes the watch next level - the new green alligator strap. Just received my new strap and the watch looks truly amazing on it.
Super cool watches, today we have multi band 6 watches that keep perfect time ( if like me you live within the reception zones) but back then they didn't have that, it's simply amazing how they pushed the known boundaries of technology and are still ongoing with that same spirit, I do hope they find a way to make them new ones smaller because I'm tempted.
I really enjoyed this video review. It's 2023 and I was completely unaware of this watch. It has a lot of cool factor. I have an M9 (1969) Bulova Accutron Astronaut \my father gave me when I was in junior high. I stopped wearing it a long time ago, then about 10 years ago I had it serviced by a Certified Accutron Tech so it would work with modern Silver Oxide Batteries 1.5V, as the original Mercury Batteries 1.35V are no longer available. While I didn't read all the comments, I'd like to point out these original tuning forks had the 214 movements, not 281. That is what is in your Spaceview. The difference in the movements between the Spaceview and the Astronaut is that the Astronaut is hacked and is called a 214H. I have a big wrist/hands so the original Astronaut looks a little small compared to some of the dinner plate-sized watches they sell today. However, I would really like one of these new Spaceviews, better yet, the 50th Anniversary Spaceview with tuning fork movement which is a bit bigger case than the original. Thanks again for the video.
This Bulova is insanely futuristic and high-tech looking :D I wrote it in a comment under another video, but I'll write it again... I really love all the new ideas and development in engineering, and seeing another ingenious idea for a watch movement gives me lots, lots of fun, much more than seeing a different looking watch. (I actually have another idea for a watch movement, maybe I should start a company making watches?)
Tempted but not without concern for longevity of the storage capacitor. Some years ago we got my father a seiko kinetic and it’s weak spot was that component. This may cause me to wait for the next generation. As ever a great video with the depth of analysis and great production values that I’ve come to expect. Thanks TGV
Most excellent way to spend the evening with the family! What an amazing lesson, TGV. I know I SHOULD have known more about this piece and it’s history, but I was not aware of quite a fair amount of the information in your video. The size is rather large. When you put it next to the Squale, you can really se the size of it. THE CROWN IS DELIGHTFUL on the old one. That would have been sublime. The Madmen reference was exquisitely apropos and accurate. The significance of this piece I fear has been overlooked in the general watch world. The world, in which almost every conversation involves the R-word, or references the big three. Truly, excellent job pointing the spotlight on the piece and on what Citizen, Bulova, and Accutron has done with this! Thank you as always, my friend. Onward and upward, TGV! Be well.
The new Accutron is really a nice looking watch head on, but a bit chunky from the side. I have several vintage Accutron tuning fork watches, one of them being a 214 Spaceview and one 218 Railroad Approved model. I'm proud to wear them and they are wonderfully accurate timekeepers. The 214 was designed to run on a Mercury battery at 1.35V which is no longer available. Some people try a 1.5V battery of correct dimensions but this sometimes causes the index pawls to double-index and certainly stresses the coils and electronics. Someone makes an adapter which allows a small 1.5V cell to work through a resistor, the entire package being the correct form factor. As the battery is smaller than original, it runs down a little quicker but not too bad. 218 Accutrons run on cells available today. The crown on these is at the 4 o'clock position which is a statement of its uniqueness.
This is yet another incredible miniature machine all watch lovers can appreciate. I think it's wonderful and I'd love to add one to my humble collection one day as I'm sure many do. Wonderful production as always TGV.
Great Video TGV. Accutron was involved in Apollo 11 as well as 15. The EASEP equipment that Buzz Aldrin left on the surface of the moon had an Accutron timer inside it. It's still on the moon now. Just another reason they're the coolest watch in the galaxy. Agree that Accutron 2020 is such an important watch, I have so much respect for Bulova/Accutron/Citizen for creating it.
Once again, TGV, you've dazzled me with backstory I haven't gotten anywhere else. I've seen the new Accutron here and there (including on the wrist of Marc @ Long Island Watch), but while I got the fifty-cent tour of the thing, felt like a lot was missing, and you proved me correct. (One funny aside: every time I saw the BTtF DeLorean model in the video, something was nagging me. Then, I figured it out: the braces/spines over each of the watch's "turbines" put me in mind of the mythical Flux Capacitor. Whether it not this was a conscious video "Easter egg" on your part, well-played!)
I'm a Gen-Xer, so I can actually remember just how amazingly cool my mom's spaceview accutron looked all the way back in the mid 70s. And darn it, that watch made me just love watches. At this point, I'm looking for my own spaceview.
Love my Accutron DNA Casino watch. The green rubber strap and watch case makes it a more modern watch and this natural color makes it pleasing for the eyes for the long haul. I think the hands are better to read as well. Recharging the capacitor needs some additional caution: 1hour walking (second hand is in rest mode) gives 24hours of recharge thus 7hours=1 week. If this is your only watch and if you are able to wear it in daytime this seems good but, as I am a mechanic and have more watches, pulling out the crown for storage seems mandatory to prevent the capacitor to run empty and to keep it topped up. Basically I consider this watch as a hand wound variant to set time when I want to wear it and activate the movement and deactivate when I go to bed. I understand now why there is not a screw on crown for easy disable the movement. Setting the time does provide you the bond with a watch similar like a hand wound movement IMO. Just that little bit of attention before the day starts. In normal use the second hand gets activated but when walking it tends to be in power save mode which makes sense. kr, Erik
I have a 7.25” wrist and will wait for a more compact version. I have over 30 Bulova watches and am hoping their oversize phase is ending. My Lunar Pilot would probably be my favorite watch if it was a little smaller.
Attraction and Repulsion.....make the seconds on the Accutron go round and indeed you could say the world go round 🌍. Amazing thought and and effort has clearly gone into this watch and always also the review. Love your original Accutron, but I'm not a fan of the size of this new one even if it's required. Probably given the price it won't ever grace my wrist, but I'm sure it will sit proudly on the wrist of many. Great addition to the world of watches. Always a privilege to watch your videos, thank you sir 🙏
Haha very poetic Chris, so true. Thank you so much Chris, I always appreciate that. Have a great rest of the weekend! Onwards and upwards. Best regards, TGV
Though not the watch for me, regardless the price, I enjoyed your video to the end and have to say you DO have the greatest toy collection I've ever witnessed.
Unfortunately, as justified as the price may be, it is currently out of reach for me... But I love it. Not flashy, not blingy, but something for the true enthusiast to admire and aspire. Great video on one of the coolest watches of the last decade or so!
Making an electric based movement like this desirable takes a well crafted yet authentic narrative. Both Accutron and yourself can be proud of this 👏👏👏
Absolutely addicted to your channel TGV, keep up the great work and passion. Love these type of videos and the depth you go into and the history. Thank you 🙏🏼
I really like this watch. The size is good for me. Is there a problem if the watch is not used for a few weeks or months? Are there any issues from infrequent use? I don’t want to have to send this in for service as a result of infrequent use.
I am glad that you made a review of the electrostatic at last and I have to say, I’d love to buy one but it’s to big for me. I’d love to see Bulova making a kind of a heritage line with the old tuning fork movements again in the old sizes, perhaps a little bit larger. I share your opinion that if they manage to reduce them in size, I’d say 40 or 42mm I’d definitely would pull the trigger. It’s a bit large in height, too. Greetings to the US from Germany. Keep up the good work! And stay safe and healthy.
They did make such heritage watch - the Accutron 50th Anniversary. It uses the 214 movement, but in a modern 40mm case. Unfortunately, they are now very rare and expensive.
as a cartier, bulova, accutron fan, just love your presentation. i too lived in nyc for many years and as a kid was fascinated for some reason by the bulova bldg. thanks.
Wow!! Great video!! This is a piece of great importance indeed! I have my own vintage Accutron M3 and I love how It works; this completely new version is really awesome!
I just love it! I must confess I developed some sort of affection for "hummers" since I've had my dad's Seamaster f300 serviced. I think I might eventually pull the trigger on the Accutron Spacetime... Excellent review, as always! Cheers!
Good evening TGV! Great video for an outstanding watch with, as always, so much valuable information and insights! Have a great saturday! Best regards!
Thank goodness there's a new video. Thank you so much TGV. I've been looking at loads of watches the last few days. I've ordered a couple of straps and decided to get my Rotary Aquaspeed (Breitling homage) watch a new Crystal as it's scratched up and put a Colareb blue leather strap on it as its got a beautiful blue dial. I got it for my 40tb birthday from my mum so special to me and its a good looking watch and has worked great. I'm now 47. I also looked at a Skagen titanium. They are mega thin and modern yet classic style. It's a Danish company but I'm not sure where they are actually made. They also are pretty reasonably priced. Have you heard anything good about them? And I've been wearing my Citizen Eco drive chrono every day. Still loving it.
Great job TGV! Couple of notes, technically it’s not a Bulova. Citizen separated Accutron from Bulova into its own entity. I know you mentioned it right there at the end but that may have gotten lost. Also I agree about the luminescence, could have been great with tritium! Last thing is the second hand, a bit “skinny” but altogether a gorgeous watch. I picked one up in November as a birthday gift to myself :)
I have my late grand fathers Accutron, however, sadly it doesn't work. I installed a new battery and it produced that iconic "hum" however not the iconic sweep. No one that I've contacted is willing to service it. After watching your video it has made my want to get that watch working more than ever before, any advise and as always excellent video.
Hi Marc, there are still some specialists on there. There is a small but strong 214 and 218 community out there, try and google them. There is a guy in Europe who repaired mine, but sadly I lost contact with him, but I found through ebay no less.. Happy hunting, I am sure you can get it up and running again! Thank you Marc, Best regards, TGV
This is amazingly technology. I really appreciate it as I own a 1963 Astronaut I and a 1971 Astronaut II. Another great innovation that hasn’t seen enough coverage is the Frederique Constant slimline oscillator tech.
I think its cool and I can't wait to see it in future watches. Also I think $4k Canadian is reasonable given the mvmt and the watch. Its like nothing else out there. I'd take on over a rolex or for sure a RM. A Seiko Spring drive or a high end Master of G....well maybe not. 😅😅 Its one my list for dream watches now for sure. I'm moving most of my collection to solar watches and this is right up my alley if I could ever afford one.
I really enjoyed your review. I am a big fan of the original space view. I really appreciate the updated design with a definite nod to its predecessor. The size to me is perfect for my 7.5" wrist. I tend to gravitate towards the 42-46mm size.
What an awesome piece! Novel movement, genuine legacy and aesthetically pleasing. Tad bit too big for my 17cm wrist and I shall now be eagerly waiting for a smaller size .... Thanks TGV for the great review.
I love those intro bits! Clearly you put a great deal of artistic thought and creativity into them! Bulova must be very pleased with your presentation as it was informative and entertaining. Your Space View Bulova almost stole the show! An excellent effort! I just wonder if Hugo would be better at explaining the technology, ah, but what do I know! Good work!
Excellent video! I wish that Accutron would remake an authentic version of the Accutron Astronaut, with a GMT function and rotating 24 hour bezel in 40mm. A few years ago they did a look alike Moon View, but it was not GMT and had a fixed bezel. IMO a total failure. I suspect that if Accutron reissued the Astronaut they'd sell a ton of them.
I have a beautifully restored 1965 Astronaut with 214 tuning fork movement. It’s a gorgeous watch, but I don’t wear it that much as the antique movement seems a bit fragile. I see that Forstner are releasing an homage to this watch, the A-12 with a quartz movement. This might scratch your itch, although it will lack the amazing smooth sweep of the 214’s seconds hand which the new electrostatic movement does maintain and perhaps only also seen in the spring drive Grand Seiko’s that TGV refers to.
Great watch review! How clever of them to come up with such innovative technology! Thank you for the watch review again! Stay healthy and well! Nicholas L
I bought an OG one off Ebay but it was a hot mess as the hip say today.. Unfortunately the new one is just too big for Me. Like You I have a fascination with the technology. An excellent episode! Thanks.
Wonderful and insightful video. I have been curious about this watch for a while, but knew the size wasn't for me since day one. I love that there is faith and technology in horology that allows these watches to exist. From a commercial point of view I have never understood why Bulova doesn't recreate the original. It would be a massive hit. Holding myself for a little while until that perfect size is available.
Very electrifying, very energizing video. Totally in line with the wait for the price and size reduction. Have a nice weekend, TGV. Thanks for the pleasant video.
I love this this Magnificent watch oh I can say wow I know it not everyone's cup of tea but I would love to get my hands on one. I love my vintage Accutron Spaceview it's one of my favorite watches that a own, great video as always.
Super excited to see accutron brought back, bit of a bulova fan boi myself lol. Haven't caught the channel in awhile either glad I googled these watches.
Saw the accutron on Richard Rogers' wrist last week watching the documentary about him. Have been thinking about the accutron all week, must own one one day.
From the sun dial (not a lot of use in the UK) to the atomic clocks there have been many changes into the how time telling is achieved, pendulums, Swiss escapement, Spring drive, Co-Axial etc. It still astounds me that in the age of the smartphone era that there is so much investment into producing new innovative movements for a wrist watch that doesn't need an 'app'. And that's a good thing in my book. If phone networks and power plants were down it's still handy to know what the time is after the phone/smart watch suddenly became very dim. The old and the new Accutron are brilliant at using tow totally different methods of achieving time telling pieces. I have yet to see an Accutron of any kind in the flesh but that the brand has managed to shrink electrostatic generators into a wrist worn device that tells the time is incredible. It also looks fantastic. I want one but will I try and get one or wait for that version 2 model? Time (and finances) will tell. Very educational TGV.
Hi there. Great video content thank you. What battery do you put in your original Accutron….. or have you / can you convert them to take a modern battery? Thanks!!

Great, but not actually new :)
Nearly half a century ago, I had the original Spaceview Accutron tuning fork watch, and loved it. Somewhere along the meanderings of life, it got lost or stolen.
A million thank yous, you are so kind for saying that, it means the world to me, I'm deeply honored. 🙏🙏🙏
Best regards,
TGV
When I first got into watches (6 years or so), people were saying Bulova was going to focus on quartz "mall" watches - and get rid of the tuning fork logo. I'm SO glad they're going back and making autos, keeping the logo, and making fantastic original watches (as well as making new takes on classics). Very awesome of Bulova.
I'm definitely a fan of bulova. The precisionist is also a wonderful piece of work.
I've been obsessed with Accutron for years. How did I miss this video? This is the best Accutron content I've ever seen. Thank you!
Beautiful video…
As I’m writing this, I am waiting for delivery of the gold special edition of the spaceview… Yes, I absolutely could not resist it once I saw a video of its unboxing !
Keep spreading the love, sir !!!
An Accutron Spaceview wrist watch was worn by astronaut Jeffrey Hoffman onboard space shuttle Discovery mission 51-D in April 1985. MoonwatchUniverse 🧐
Onboard the Lockheed A-12 Accutron wristwatches could only be worn if the pilots wore the David Clark S901-E pressure suit which had a watch pocket in the upper left glove.
VERY COOL, thank you so much for adding that!
Best regards,
TGV
What a fantastic review. I am a watch enthusiast, and am very much attracted to the technology of the Grand Seiko Spring Drive and now the Accutron electrostatic! This watch is large, but not oversized. I hate oversized watches, but this is the smallest, most efficient design they have at the moment for this brand new movement. It is not large to be large. It is miniature for what it is. To some, like me, this is an important distinction.
I totally agree …. especially with the last two sentences
An Accutron 214 can be regulated to run on 387s batteries. Ditch the accucell. My 5 214s all run on 387s. I get 1 year on the battery running nonstop
I have a tremendous amount of respect for the engineering and r&d that went into this watch. If they succeed in getting the components smaller and thus reducing the size of their watch, then I would be interested in owning one.
I would change one thing, put that Fork at 12 o'clock position and fill it with lume, that would give you an orientation and would look very cool 😊
Mic drop!!!! Genius idea.
Thank you my friend, it would have been PERFECTION.
Best regards,
TGV
It's just captivating, truly a work of art! I can't stop looking at it, the 2020 is my new grail watch!
Hey TGV! Looking forward to chilling with one of your new videos. Wouldn’t it be cool if the Citizen group could combine their Eco Drive with the sweep seconds of Bulova, to create like an ultimate movement? Thanks for the upload mate!
nop
Sweep second uses way too much electricity to be solar. Even something like a VK64 uses up too much power.
As always, I appreciate the honesty of your reviews and the background research you do to give proper perspective. Another great video!
I’m blown away by how the Accutron works, It’s just insane! 🤯
Excellent video. They are definitely cutting edge with what they're doing. Owned by the right company as well, IMHO. Citizen has worked most of the kinks out of their solar/eco drives, it won't be long before they reduce this movement as well.
I own a vintage Accutron Spaceview. I bought it in 1968 while I was in the Air Force. It still runs perfectly.
OMG, you are too cool Alastair, I'm proud to have you in the Gentry!
Thank you my friend.
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry Not only am I cool because I own an Accutron, I am also a jazz saxophone player! :-)
@@Alastair6 Saxophone? 3 demerits---- lol
We are kindred spirits. I bought a new Spaceview in 1974 while in the Air Force stationed in Texas. It still runs great.
@@ronniefranks4351 I was in tech school at Chanute AFB in Rantoul Illinois. Got my one and only tattoo there too.
An iconic watch which will always divide opinion on aesthetics but you cannot underestimate the importance. Fabulous as ever 👏👏👏👏
The first Citizen radio-controlled watch had a huge antenna module compared to today's models. These will definitely get slimmer :)
Yes, smaller please!
This Bulova is insanely futuristic and high-tech looking :D
I wrote it in a comment under another video, but I'll write it again...
Thanks TGV
Thank you so much Roger, deeply appreciated as always. I'm right there with you, I can't wait for the next gen too.
Best regards,
TGV

The accutron is so cool and retro 😁 cheers !!!
Though not the watch for me, regardless the price, I enjoyed your video to the end and have to say you DO have the greatest toy collection I've ever witnessed.
Your style and words give joy, each and every time I view your presentations. Thank you.
That would fit me perfectly!!! Great video my friend. Cheers! Hope all is well!
Fantastic editing as always ! Keep it up :)
Thank you 🙏 😊

Thank you so much Andre, I very much appreciate it, you are an absolute gent for saying that. Enjoy your Accutron my friend.

I'd love to own a vintage Accutron. So cool.
Thank you Marc,

I've been waiting for this one. There's a Accutron store here in Calgary and boy are they great.
If they can ever make this watch smaller I will buy one. Outstanding.
I really enjoyed your review. I am a big fan of the original space view. I really appreciate the updated design with a definite nod to its predecessor. The size to me is perfect for my 7.5" wrist. I tend to gravitate towards the 42-46mm size.
F**king love this episode. Love love love it. Keep it up TGV. Brilliant.
Good work!
I am a mechanical watch lover at heart, my mom bought my dad an Accutron dress watch, I remember listening to it hum. This was about 1972
Remember my uncle receiving one for his birthday in the early 70's and how mesmerized I was looking at it.
Dude you have the best intros so good.
Very electrifying, very energizing video. Totally in line with the wait for the price and size reduction. Have a nice weekend, TGV. Thanks for the pleasant video.

I can’t wait as the technology improves and reduces in size. If I can get one of these in 40mm in a few years I’m down to buy one
Your intros are always amazing
This watch has been in my collection since Oct 2021. It is quite comfortable on my 7.5 inch wrist and my favorite.
Excellent! Thoroughly agree with you on this watch. Too big for my taste, but what a tour de force of technological achievement.
