Beyond the utter solitaire madness, the narrative of this deck is hilarious as well. A detective that gets so far into re-enacting a crime they turn into a conspiracy theorist, whose search for answers leads them to conjure Atraxa herself and or breach the multiversal fabric, only for Jace's master plan for which he was manipulating the unfortunate detective all along to come to fruition in the end.

As an older player I'm not going to say this is what's wrong with modern magic nowadays, but boy does the this deck showcase how it's starting to feel a whole lot like Yu-Gi-Oh combo decks now a days..
This. I actually played Yugioh first and switched to Magic because I appreciated that games were inherently slower due to land system but now WOTC just prints increasingly insane reanimation cards that combo off and end games on turn 4 (together with insane mono red/aggro strategies that end games on turn 2 or 3). And it’s just feeling more and more like yugioh which is unfortunate
hm i feel in the old times mtg was always like this, they got rid of it by lowering the powerlevel of spells alot and this feels like an outlier xD combo winter anyone ?
Erm. Mtg has always had combos? Sometimes even to the point of being a problem in the format. I remember something being called “combo winter”. I don’t remember which format that was. If it starts to dominate, sure, it’ll be a problem. Otherwise aggro and midrange make up most of the meta with a bit of control and even less combo. I think we’re fine for now.
As a newer player, I'll say it for you. Standard has become increasingly worse in just the 4 years I've played. Everything that made me enjoy the game and decide to play it regularly back in 2020 is being slowly demolished, and yes, your yugioh comparison is apt.
In an actual tournament in 1994 my opponent did this to me: Turn 1: bayou, jet, emerald, ritual, ritual, lord of the pit I played mountain, goblin balloon brigade (it was a goblin/ball lightning/burn deck Turn 2: swamp, demonic tutor, giant growth, berserk swing for 20. Standard today gives me 1994 flashbacks
oh, huh, I hadn't realized that not having a creature to sacrifice to Lord of the Pit doesn't tap the thing. that being said, that's more an issue of your opp having two Moxes and two Dark Rituals on turn one lol
... wait, that's nine cards from your opp's hand on turn two (plus the one he put in with DT, that makes 10) and he was on the play, you said? ... did he draw on his first turn? you were playing old school, right? were the rules different?
Imagine what this would look like. You go to reenact a crime, then accidentally repeatedly breach the multiverse pulling alternate dimension Jaces who each are summoned, expend all their power rotting your opponent's mind, only to be replaced by a parallel universe Jace who still has his power to do the same thing, all while a Phyrexian angel and a sphinx watch from the sky, with upset tummies. Amazing deck.
Sometimes a random Skaab shows up and wanders into the Breach in the Multiverse, where it repeatedly ruptures and is either reassembled by time skip or replaced with another one in the same manner as Jace-- which is it? too much is happening to tell for sure.
The original Kamigawa block was sort of like that for Ravnica/Kamigawa standard. Ravnica had the color fixing and quality utility spells and Kami had the finishers and build around cards.

I am struggling to find any enjoyment at Mythic level in BO1. Last night I played 20 matches - 12 matches against Boros, 6 against Mono Red, and 2 against control variants. The Boros matchup is even more boring than playing mono red. My wishful thinking says keep trying - there will be more variance than that - but I never seem to run into it. A good 50% of my matches is against Boros, but then I see your matches here and I keep trying. LOL
Spot on, played 17 games to try out a fun ward deck, and just ran into mono red, Boros convoke and haughty djinn/monk decks. Couldn't be more fed up with it. I need to try best of 3 or commander as its just ridiculous ATM.
While playing my silly brews i went around 0-10 in Standard, mono red, boros, squirming, insidious and this. I then went to draft and got a 7-1 and a 6-3. I hate Standard so much :p.
Perfectly valid takes, but I’m not sure, in a competitive format, why people would expect silly brews to have much of a chance. It would be nice if there were a section (like the standard play instead of standard ranked or something) where people could just test out for fun decks, but that would be extremely hard to implement and police. Standard ranked will just always be try hards for the most part because it is, in fact, ranked.

Even more hilarious if you happen to be on the play and opponent opened with a tapland. Sure it’s the nuts draw but the fact that even standard has a possible t2 win and multiple t3/4 decks speaks volumes about how broken the spells are.
Three red-based strategies that go on board with different secondary colours, vs dimir and golgari... there's a narrative here somewhere about either joining the aggro plague or trying to counter them with broken graveyard shenanigans.
Those players probably aren’t that good then, because the way re enact the crime works is that when it resolves and creates the sphinx token, the person playing the card has priority meaning they can immediately use collect evidence to play a breach or an atraxa before the opponent can cast a removal spell.
I've been watching and downloading your videos for a while now and I've been learning a lot through your videos. I must say, this deck you have here is brutal! Scary as hell! Awesome video. Keep it up.
i played this deck today and let me tell you, that except for 2 games where I either discarded the wrong card or just ran out of time selecting cards worth 10 mana, this decks won/loss was 15/5. So much fun playing it, that now I want to get the real cards and play it. Thanks for the video and the advice you gave. Man this dec can surely win in turn 4.
Honestly you can tell if the game is decided by turns 1-2, if you're on the draw and they're RDW and you don't have the god hand of answers, or they're on a faster combo, or you miss a land drop, or so on. Turn 3 the red decks can just actually kill you. You're on the draw and your first 2 spells get hit by no more lies + make disappear and now they're up to their wipes / CA spells? No way you can win.
One of the things I admire from CGB, if not the main one, is that he can challenge the META without playing it. Keep up the good work CGB. And you are cool!!!
This is beyond rad! What would this deck look like in Pioneer? Probably not drastically different except a sideboard with Pushes and maybe some Thoughtseizes in the main?
47:26 on modern age level I you have to discard Kaito rather than collector's vault. You are basically only using him as a looter to put things into the graveyard, and the vault does it better. Not to worry, the meta can handle this deck just fine, been trying to make it work for a while and got glued to the bottom of Platinum, It doesn't feel consistent enough to do it's thing on turn 4 and you really have to pop off turn 4, considering the lack of interaction in the deck. What usually happens is you miss your mark, don't reenact and aggro just smashes your face in, or you DO reenact, but just get a measly Atraxa that is immediately removed by a midrange player who then proceeds to smashing your face. Matchup against control goes exactly as you would imagine: quite miserably.

@@mublysnubly3407 Dude. Never side in graveyard hate against reanimator decks. Just side in more combo pieces so you go off even faster. If you aren't Glittering Wish or Grapeshotting on Turn 1, are we even playing Magic?
I remember turn 2 wins, till they banned some cards. With the right cards and "Channel" even turn 1 wins are a possibility. Turn 3 or 4 is a thing for sure, but well, so it goes. To really have fun I play more historic brawl games and something like that.
ngl this obviously looks fun when you're playing but I would absolutely hate playing against a deck like this. Why has magic become so focused on not actually interacting with your opponent and just comboing into oblivion recently
Wizards seems deadset on ensuring that 90% of games end by turn 4, and I dont understand why. Maybe some internal metric on MTGA based on number of games played?
well they printed stuff like BUSTO 2 mana counter anyhting spells like make disappear and no more lies along with sunfall and farewell being insane board clears and to top it off printed the best control wincon ever in Jace
In regards to the "best of 3 vs. best of 1" which is real Magic: Best of 3 is a tournament creation so as not to make people feel bad about getting beat on game 1. Back when MtG was created, all games were best of 1 unless you and your friend decided to keep playing the same decks. Usually you either lost or won and then tried out a different deck, just to keep the time from getting stale. Best of 1 is original true Magic.
B03 is trash. Sideboarding is absolutely stupid as you can swap out an entire deck with specific hate cards that are useless normally but broken in certain scenarios... like that makes the games even more swingy based on draws then they already are. it also does absolutely nothing about going first or land issues... just repeating it 3 times is not a fix lmao
I don't know if it's the vacation, but you look a lot better. Sharper face, more dynamic. Or maybe it's just cause you're back with the good equipment. Either way, you rock :)
Best of one- Single match against an opponent Best of three- Have to beat an opponent twice to win the match, leading up to a possible 3 games before the winner is decided.
In a game where lands are resource for mana, casting things for free (or with alternate costs that are easily achievable) is usually the problem. Breach is fine in itself. Very powerful but can also whiff. Reenact is a very pushed reanimator spell, as the downside can be easily circumvented, but otherwise fine. That thing needed to be 5 mana though, not 4. The sphinx is the culprit here as it enables enough free spells to win on the spot, otherwise you would require to have an Atraxa stick to replenish your life total and give you a chance to win.
@@kingdo22 Yeah. I haven't been playing for long, only a few years, but I noticed that most problems that arise in any format are generally tied to free spells. When the design team at wotc continues to circumvent one of the core rules of the game, that of resources, players will of course try to abuse those things to the max. And they continue to do it and then just wonder "wow why has xyz format become so bad because of xyz decks, we need to ban things". All of these cards that do such things should 100% be banned in all formats imho and they should never print anything similar again, but that would require someone with a level head and authority to implement such things in order for something like that to be feasible.
I feel the younger Magic players start these days the more WOTC has to tailor to the ADD crowd. When you face nothing but the same decks including ridiculous combos it takes away from the magic, no pun intended, we all experienced playing in the 90s. The slow methodical march of the Urzas block where one had to work to get their combo going made it so rewarding when it actually did! Now games are over in 2-3 turns. Monastery Mentor? C'mon. Phyrexian Obliterator and Vindicator? Please. WOTC should bring back the old thinking mans games that we all fell in love with.
nah, they are waisting your time, because they know the game is over, hell it could very well be they closed the program, or even left the house, but you do not know, and you sit and watch the rope (because sometimes it was not a rope, just oponent disconnecting and then he comes back).
Beyond the utter solitaire madness, the narrative of this deck is hilarious as well. I remember turn 2 wins, till they banned some cards. With the right cards and "Channel" even turn 1 wins are a possibility. Turn 3 or 4 is a thing for sure, but well, so it goes. To really have fun I play more historic brawl games and something like that.
Thanks, I hate it
ngl this obviously looks fun when you're playing but I would absolutely hate playing against a deck like this.
45:25 imagine the flex the opponent must have felt, taking a single card with Atraxa
29:40 all you had to do was grab Imodane's Recruiter from the opponent's graveyard and you could have swung for lethal right there.
But watch time 😈
In regards to the "best of 3 vs. best of 1" which is real Magic: Best of 3 is a tournament creation so as not to make people feel bad about getting beat on game 1.
The fact u could still hard cast atraxa is insane.
I love to play Jund and Gruul in midrange. So Standard is getting this ridiculous rn? Really?
I hope you like bo3 😬
@@covertgoblue Never done that. So I guess now I HAVE to try it :D
I don't know if it's the vacation, but you look a lot better. Sharper face, more dynamic.
Or maybe it's just cause you're back with the good equipment. Either way, you rock :)
I like the Enigma jewel and collectors vault, free card every turn, just plain fair magic.
Whats best of one or best of three?
Best of one- Single match against an opponent
Best of three- Have to beat an opponent twice to win the match, leading up to a possible 3 games before the winner is decided.
What's the problem card to ban here? Casting stuff for free or breech the multiverse?
Breach seems to be the core. It fuels the free casting from the sphinx.
@@mariand.1087 Agree. I've been playing since '95. The culprit is almost always 0 cc spells.
I'll be abusing this endless mill combo till they ban it! Happy times for my reanimator boys!
@CGB for the infinite, you need to sac the skaab
CGB: "Why are you roping! Are thouest upset?"
Also CGB: * Ropes constantly while thinking out-loud to the stream *
Just like that I'm running 2 calamities wake now
Sick. ^^
I am still waiting for the 1 Mana artifact print "you win the game"...🤦♂
Matlanzanti vs Collector's vault, a curve choice
Por qué no los dos?
emergency reprint of gaia's blessing in the next set?
how about ban jace
Pick one: milled on turn 4 with dimir or 19 dmg on turn 3 with boros convoke ? Right click quit game. Start menu: uninstall.
you are forgetting 20+ turns of exile counterspells, exile board wipes, and drawing nonstop cards with memory deluge into jace mill!
omg the intro thank you for that
You should add jetsam
The very first game I'm wondering why CGB wants to cast The Modern Age on turn 2 so badly, especially over Collector's Vault...
lol hes like a supervillain explaining his plan to the captured hero, bravo.
@1:47 when ur a professional at something
Feel like I haven't played in ages; guess not since Kaito is still in rotation.
Remember when people thought they fixed Delve with Collect Evidence because Delve was busted.
This is the standard deck I’m pulling up to the modern table
I never understand roping .. like they're wasting their time.
nah, they are waisting your time, because they know the game is over, hell it could very well be they closed the program, or even left the house, but you do not know, and you sit and watch the rope (because sometimes it was not a rope, just oponent disconnecting and then he comes back).
