Beyond the utter solitaire madness, the narrative of this deck is hilarious as well. A detective that gets so far into re-enacting a crime they turn into a conspiracy theorist, whose search for answers leads them to conjure Atraxa herself and or breach the multiversal fabric, only for Jace's master plan for which he was manipulating the unfortunate detective all along to come to fruition in the end.
And it all could have been foiled by a simple ruined picnic had they started sooner
😂😂😂 LOL I had the same thought!
Blue mages: cast 30 free spells, win turn 4
Red mage: lol creatures go sideways, win turn 3
green, white, and black just sit on the sidelines
…ad nauseum.
look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power
"lol creatures go sideways" is the most hilarious thing I've heard.
In an actual tournament in 1994 my opponent did this to me:
Turn 1: bayou, jet, emerald, ritual, ritual, lord of the pit
I played mountain, goblin balloon brigade (it was a goblin/ball lightning/burn deck
Turn 2: swamp, demonic tutor, giant growth, berserk swing for 20.
Standard today gives me 1994 flashbacks
I once went black lotus, strip mine, turn 1 juggernaut.
They played mountain, lightning bolt, and I felt very silly.
If I had gone first I could’ve jumped my goblin and blocked and only taken 19.
oh, huh, I hadn't realized that not having a creature to sacrifice to Lord of the Pit doesn't tap the thing.
that being said, that's more an issue of your opp having two Moxes and two Dark Rituals on turn one lol
... wait, that's nine cards from your opp's hand on turn two (plus the one he put in with DT, that makes 10)
and he was on the play, you said?
... did he draw on his first turn?
you were playing old school, right? were the rules different?
@someguy1ification yeah you used to draw on the play
Edit - of course it wasn't known as 'the draw' if you played second back then
Congrats Wizzards, you made Turn 4 Solitaire a thing!
What an epic game between two powerful planeswalkers that relies on in depth strategy and skill!
I miss Splinter twin.
In Urza’s block it used to be like this, it sucks
You my esteemed sir are a true G
I remember when people said during preview season that Unraveler isn't that good.
It's Omniscience on a stick.
Imagine what this would look like. You go to reenact a crime, then accidentally repeatedly breach the multiverse pulling alternate dimension Jaces who each are summoned, expend all their power rotting your opponent's mind, only to be replaced by a parallel universe Jace who still has his power to do the same thing, all while a Phyrexian angel and a sphinx watch from the sky, with upset tummies. Amazing deck.
I just commented nearly the same thing. Great minds think alike... or perhaps we're both phyrexian sleeper agents.
Sometimes a random Skaab shows up and wanders into the Breach in the Multiverse, where it repeatedly ruptures and is either reassembled by time skip or replaced with another one in the same manner as Jace-- which is it? too much is happening to tell for sure.
As an older player I'm not going to say this is what's wrong with modern magic nowadays, but boy does the this deck showcase how it's starting to feel a whole lot like Yu-Gi-Oh combo decks now a days..
This. I actually played Yugioh first and switched to Magic because I appreciated that games were inherently slower due to land system but now WOTC just prints increasingly insane reanimation cards that combo off and end games on turn 4 (together with insane mono red/aggro strategies that end games on turn 2 or 3). And it’s just feeling more and more like yugioh which is unfortunate
hm i feel in the old times mtg was always like this, they got rid of it by lowering the powerlevel of spells alot and this feels like an outlier xD
combo winter anyone ?
The current MTGA standard meta doesn't play itself indeed with all these decision trees.
Erm. Mtg has always had combos? Sometimes even to the point of being a problem in the format. I remember something being called “combo winter”. I don’t remember which format that was.
If it starts to dominate, sure, it’ll be a problem. Otherwise aggro and midrange make up most of the meta with a bit of control and even less combo. I think we’re fine for now.
As a newer player, I'll say it for you. Standard has become increasingly worse in just the 4 years I've played. Everything that made me enjoy the game and decide to play it regularly back in 2020 is being slowly demolished, and yes, your yugioh comparison is apt.
My "Job" and "Responsibilities" have gotten in the way of my CGB time, but I'm back baby. What's up cool kids?!
I'm not a cool kid :/
@@absence9443you are! Just like, a little less so? Idk how to say that without sounding like a jerk lol. You're cool dude. 😎
You‘re both cool! 🎉
Are you still hooking these days?
The sky
the entire meta right now is insane, most of the top tier decks are slot machine "you just lose on turn 3-4 and you have no way out of it" combo decks
Slot machine is a good comparison. Usually not much skill involved which is lame
@@jza88 for real. Almost exclusively it comes down to who drew first and whether they got the worst possible hand or not
yep, combine that with hitting lands or not and who goes first and the game is nearly unplayable.
You don't play magic, mtg arena plays YOU
True yesterday it matched me with top tier decks with god draws against mine then after few loses I got the God draws and all games over before turn 6@@yavivanov6650
Oh, this intro is superb with that long-winded, one breath explanation of the combo. 💙
Kamigawa was so packed with versatile cards, kinda the format enabler
The original Kamigawa block was sort of like that for Ravnica/Kamigawa standard. Ravnica had the color fixing and quality utility spells and Kami had the finishers and build around cards.
Turn 3 decks when they meet a turn 4 deck thats on the play: 😢
Bop it! Twist it! Reenact it! Breach it! Unravel it!
Unify it!
No witnesses!
Seems like a doc who episode
Enjoying my break from standard. Games explode and end before things really even begin. There's no back and forth, just a coin flip.
Edit: And yet I still enjoy watching CGB. Thank you for all that you do. I just wish wizards would do better.
It was always a coinflip
You can always play a deck with more interaction
The game ends on the coin flip to go first, 3 year rotation is complete trash
counterspells are a thing
@@jordanfowler4033 so only decks with blue should exist in the game?
@@yavivanov6650 yes. unironically tho I just think wotc needs to print more stack interaction or combo hate in other colors
@@jordanfowler4033And then your counterspell deck loses on turn 2 to mono red aggro, boros, and life gain
This is correct.
Wow, I can't believe people used to run multiple copies of Jace in their deck. Talk about redundant😂
I am struggling to find any enjoyment at Mythic level in BO1. Last night I played 20 matches - 12 matches against Boros, 6 against Mono Red, and 2 against control variants. The Boros matchup is even more boring than playing mono red. My wishful thinking says keep trying - there will be more variance than that - but I never seem to run into it. A good 50% of my matches is against Boros, but then I see your matches here and I keep trying. LOL
Play bo3 when possible. That fixes a lot of things.
Spot on, played 17 games to try out a fun ward deck, and just ran into mono red, Boros convoke and haughty djinn/monk decks. Couldn't be more fed up with it. I need to try best of 3 or commander as its just ridiculous ATM.
While playing my silly brews i went around 0-10 in Standard, mono red, boros, squirming, insidious and this. I then went to draft and got a 7-1 and a 6-3.
I hate Standard so much :p.
Perfectly valid takes, but I’m not sure, in a competitive format, why people would expect silly brews to have much of a chance. It would be nice if there were a section (like the standard play instead of standard ranked or something) where people could just test out for fun decks, but that would be extremely hard to implement and police. Standard ranked will just always be try hards for the most part because it is, in fact, ranked.
@@johnathanrhoades7751 Don't need any silly brews - I just need decks that are fun to play against. BO1 is incredibly linear at the moment with limited strategic elements. But, I understand there is always BO3, and I can't claim to have tried it much yet. Next up!
[rocking back and forth]
_...standard is still fun..._

_...standard is still fun..._
I mean, one player here is having a lot of fun. All of the fun in fact.
I love that the salty monored roper had the screen name ZZZ lmao
we went from cool standard stuff with crazy nissa, teferi, narset, and friends, to whatever this shit is
The deck is a glass cannon but the high you get when it pops off feels like you’re playing Yugioh lol
I love how committed you are to the combo - around 30 minutes you mention messing up the lethal line, but the faster lethal was just to play the imodane's recruiter and kill them with combat damage! :D
Welcome to standard where you choose between a plethora strategies:
- Boros Turn 3 Win
- Gruul Turn 3 Win
- Squirming Emergence Turn 3/4 Win
- Reenact the crime Turn 4 Win
- Mono Red Turn 4 Win
- Counterspell/Boardwipe Tribal Turn 4 win (not because win con but because salty scoop)
In conclusion, we are rivaling YuGiOh in terms of format speed now boys
mono red can do a turn 3 win as well. monstrous rage is a broken pump spell
Domain can do a theoretical t2 win also. Open with the new leyline, then t1 scamp into t2 double gaea’s might and gg. Even more hilarious if you happen to be on the play and opponent opened with a tapland.
Sure it’s the nuts draw but the fact that even standard has a possible t2 win and multiple t3/4 decks speaks volumes about how broken the spells are.
Three red-based strategies that go on board with different secondary colours, vs dimir and golgari... there's a narrative here somewhere about either joining the aggro plague or trying to counter them with broken graveyard shenanigans.
I play longer games of snap than mtg. Incredibly stupid meta take the fun out of the game.
When a red deck ropes you, that is a standing ovation.
Exactly hahaha the red deck rope was so clutch. THIS IS MONO RED ROPING
What does rope mean? (I’m a new player)
@@Mevilar They make you wait out the timer by leaving the game without conceding. Means they're mad.
I've been watching and downloading your videos for a while now and I've been learning a lot through your videos. I must say, this deck you have here is brutal! Scary as hell! Awesome video. Keep it up.
Collective evidence 10 and not pay mana is... broken.
... This video is 2 hours old and I've ran into 3 of these that insta-scooped the instant I killed the Sphinx token.
Those players probably aren’t that good then, because the way re enact the crime works is that when it resolves and creates the sphinx token, the person playing the card has priority meaning they can immediately use collect evidence to play a breach or an atraxa before the opponent can cast a removal spell.
I Iove my 2 negates and 4 symcopates main now!
Countermagics back on the menu boys
i played this deck today and let me tell you, that except for 2 games where I either discarded the wrong card or just ran out of time selecting cards worth 10 mana, this decks won/loss was 15/5. So much fun playing it, that now I want to get the real cards and play it. Thanks for the video and the advice you gave. Man this dec can surely win in turn 4.
29:00 missing the quick kill with Recruiter to enjoy infinite. I like the playstyle.
One of the things I admire from CGB, if not the main one, is that he can challenge the META without playing it. Keep up the good work CGB. And you are cool!!!
Well, when are you going to hyper-ize this reenact/mill template with the Halo Forager?
I came back after a few years of inactivity.
I HATE the fact most games are decided by turn 3....
This is no longer magic.
Honestly you can tell if the game is decided by turns 1-2, if you're on the draw and they're RDW and you don't have the god hand of answers, or they're on a faster combo, or you miss a land drop, or so on. Turn 3 the red decks can just actually kill you. You're on the draw and your first 2 spells get hit by no more lies + make disappear and now they're up to their wipes / CA spells? No way you can win.
The "battle fayeld" at 2:07 has me rolling 🤣 😆 😂
All I can understand is "Win on turn 4 for Free" 😂
For Free*
* And a whole lot of wildcards
I’ve been playing that first list for a week or so. ❤ I keep thinking there’s something else I’m missing - it can maybe do more? You played it amazingly!
this deck both makes me want to come back and play and makes me really happy i am taking a break
47:26 on modern age level I you have to discard Kaito rather than collector's vault. You are basically only using him as a looter to put things into the graveyard, and the vault does it better. Yes it costs you 2 mana to activate but it gives you one back to use in the next turns. Plus it can be bargained.
25:02 this player having the username "zzz" was the ice on the cake 😴💤
well that was quite a crescendo performed by CGB in the intro!
your excitement just explaining all the possible lines in the deck was so infectious as it got more and more ridiculous lol
More Dimir you say? I’m here
This is beyond rad! What would this deck look like in Pioneer? Probably not drastically different except a sideboard with Pushes and maybe some Thoughtseizes in the main?
This is the ultimate deck for saying" fuck you, I'm an asshole." 🤣🤣🤣
Nah, it would have more triggers if it was an f u deck
WOTC's endless set-by-set quest to make mana just a mere suggestion rather than a game mechanic continues. Sigh.
The reason I do not and never will play Magic as a hobby is that it's so insanely decided by whoever goes first.
I remember turn 2 wins, till they banned some cards. With the right cards and "Channel" even turn 1 wins are a possibility. Turn 3 or 4 is a thing for sure, but well, so it goes. To really have fun I play more historic brawl games and something like that.
Yes! At last. I wanted to make a deck with this concept since last set. Thank you sir. Thank you
Great that you play this so WotC might do something about it.
The stone brain has entered the chat. I played vs this on ladder and destroyed it with a sideboard stone brain
Thanks for the BO3 tech in a BO1 video, dude!
@@ashleyhamilton5064ohhhh so you're saying that I should side in graveyard hate vs reanimator
@@mublysnubly3407 Dude. Never side in graveyard hate against reanimator decks. Just side in more combo pieces so you go off even faster. If you aren't Glittering Wish or Grapeshotting on Turn 1, are we even playing Magic?
CGB: "Why are you roping! Are thouest upset?"
Also CGB: * Ropes constantly while thinking out-loud to the stream *
@1:47 when ur a professional at something
I don't know if it's the vacation, but you look a lot better. Sharper face, more dynamic.
Or maybe it's just cause you're back with the good equipment. Either way, you rock :)
Not to worry, the meta can handle this deck just fine, been trying to make it work for a while and got glued to the bottom of Platinum, It doesn't feel consistent enough to do it's thing on turn 4 and you really have to pop off turn 4, considering the lack of interaction in the deck. What usually happens is you miss your mark, don't reenact and aggro just smashes your face in, or you DO reenact, but just get a measly Atraxa that is immediately removed by a midrange player who then proceeds to smashing your face. Matchup against control goes exactly as you would imagine: quite miserably.
What sideboard should I have for this deck in bo3? I considering duresses and some kind of countermagic, maybe offers or negates, maybe massremovals like path for boros? Pls help)
I could feel, when we reach the beach.
The card "Dennick, Pious Apprentice" can counter this deck pretty easily.
People used to think original (pre ice age) magic was fast.
But this is ridiculous.
45:25 imagine the flex the opponent must have felt, taking a single card with Atraxa
This is why Soul Guide Lantern is a thing…
29:40 all you had to do was grab Imodane's Recruiter from the opponent's graveyard and you could have swung for lethal right there.
But watch time 😈
I feel the younger Magic players start these days the more WOTC has to tailor to the ADD crowd.
When you face nothing but the same decks including ridiculous combos it takes away from the magic, no pun intended, we all experienced playing in the 90s.
The slow methodical march of the Urzas block where one had to work to get their combo going made it so rewarding when it actually did!
Now games are over in 2-3 turns. Monastery Mentor? C'mon.
Phyrexian Obliterator and Vindicator? Please.
WOTC should bring back the old thinking mans games that we all fell in love with.
Yes! Bonus deck at the end!! Thanks cgb for rewarding your true fans. Respect
ngl this obviously looks fun when you're playing but I would absolutely hate playing against a deck like this. Why has magic become so focused on not actually interacting with your opponent and just comboing into oblivion recently
Wizards seems deadset on ensuring that 90% of games end by turn 4, and I dont understand why. Maybe some internal metric on MTGA based on number of games played?
well they printed stuff like BUSTO 2 mana counter anyhting spells like make disappear and no more lies along with sunfall and farewell being insane board clears and to top it off printed the best control wincon ever in Jace
Thanks, I hate it
lol hes like a supervillain explaining his plan to the captured hero, bravo.
I like the Enigma jewel and collectors vault, free card every turn, just plain fair magic.
Squirming emergence can reanimate turn 3 olivia -> kroxa and kunoros -> Atraxa
Standard is sick nowadays!
no its really awful lol. B01 is terrible
At around 30, couldn't you have brought back a conspiracy unraveller and one of their Recrutiers to just haste up the Unravellers and Atraxa for a lethal strike in the air?
why is the deck list different from the video? is that a more updated list?
This deck happ3n3d to me today.
In regards to the "best of 3 vs. best of 1" which is real Magic: Best of 3 is a tournament creation so as not to make people feel bad about getting beat on game 1. Back when MtG was created, all games were best of 1 unless you and your friend decided to keep playing the same decks. Usually you either lost or won and then tried out a different deck, just to keep the time from getting stale. Best of 1 is original true Magic.
B03 is trash. Sideboarding is absolutely stupid as you can swap out an entire deck with specific hate cards that are useless normally but broken in certain scenarios... like that makes the games even more swingy based on draws then they already are. it also does absolutely nothing about going first or land issues... just repeating it 3 times is not a fix lmao
after watching you get beat by spell pierce, i added 2 spell pierces and that card steals games. v boros you counterspell gleeful demolition. v some control decks you wait a turn to go off and keep 2 mana up for the spell pierce and it'll get them sometimes
If games are going to end on turn 3/4, can we have force of will?
omg the intro thank you for that
Was waiting for the match against esper legends where he just loses to turn 2 dennick
I'll be abusing this endless mill combo till they ban it! Happy times for my reanimator boys!
Remember when people thought they fixed Delve with Collect Evidence because Delve was busted.
The very first game I'm wondering why CGB wants to cast The Modern Age on turn 2 so badly, especially over Collector's Vault...
The fact u could still hard cast atraxa is insane.
Sick. ^^
I am still waiting for the 1 Mana artifact print "you win the game"...🤦♂
Turn 4 Solitaire
I think arena just hates me. I played 10 games with this deck and lost them all....5 of them were 150+ card decks.
when that happen i just try different format or just play again an hour or 2 later
LMFAO
Matlanzanti vs Collector's vault, a curve choice
Por qué no los dos?
Where renact the crime exiles the spell then copies, does that mean it even gets around cards that stop spells being cast from the graveyard? coz technically its being cast from exile? If so thats beyond stupid.
nah dennick shuts it down unfortunately. such a stupid card
This is the standard deck I’m pulling up to the modern table
This deck is somehow both fun and boring at the same time
That deck tech explanation had me 🙆🏼♂️
Is magic turning into Yu-Gi-Oh???? Is it time to get concerned it's a T3 game now???? All hope is lost
very sad indeed
any tips for a sideboard?
This deck is why I use Cease & Turn the Earth lol. They never see it coming
Okay but 2 breach the multiverse and 2 jace milling 50 cards in one turn is crazy
@CGB for the infinite, you need to sac the skaab
1:47 That rant though... 😅
Just like that I'm running 2 calamities wake now
Pick one: milled on turn 4 with dimir or 19 dmg on turn 3 with boros convoke ? Right click quit game. Start menu: uninstall.
you are forgetting 20+ turns of exile counterspells, exile board wipes, and drawing nonstop cards with memory deluge into jace mill!
Calamity wake
Why is push/pull in the deck you are playing yet I don't see it in the decklist?
Also Repository Skaab... Why are you playing with a decklist that isn't the one you linked? I'm so confused...
He mentions in the outro that he's been trying multiple versions of the deck. The one shown at the end and in the link is his favorite iteration of the deck.
I wish I was here live for this, it looks really cool 😎
this gameplay is so dirty I had to go wash my hands. Reenact is already shaping up to be a pet card in my commander decks, I seriously believe it's the most interesting blue card we've ever gotten!
