    Metal disc is not meant to be consumed on the sides , but only on the tips for cutting , this will cause your disc to explode

      True. The method I propose is a quick and dirty solution.

    Excellent, exactly what i was looking for. Saved me buying a belt sander just for sharpening chisels on the jobsite. I will try it tomorrow

      You can't grind tool steel at high speed !! This guy doesn't know what he's talking about ......do them by hand !!! If you can't do that you should be nowhere one of my sites 😂

    • @JimTom.
      @JimTom. 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@AnthonyPurvis-bq5wp well thats silly. Ofcourse you can, you just have to do it intermittently so that it doesnt overheat. Ive been doing it fir years. Chisels on a jobsite get beat up, they hit nails and all sorts so you need something that will grind off a lot of steel. For a building site its good enough, but for a cabinet shop with Japanese chisels you definitely wouldnt use an angle grinder.

    2:03 sharpening against the edge is quite dangerous. If possible always sharpen with the edge.

    • @ScrapwoodCity
      @ScrapwoodCity  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that's it is not the safest thing, so one should do it if he feels confident about it. But sharpening against the edge is the best way to go for me. But in most cases you we use a tool rest to do it!

    when you grind on the sides of a cutting wheel, you are weakening its structure, it could explode later, use a flap disc better, the finish is better and there is no risk

    • @ScrapwoodCity
      @ScrapwoodCity  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It needs attention I agree! Although the disc has a mesh embedded in it and it is kind of difficult to explode!

    • @vaguincolombia
      @vaguincolombia 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ScrapwoodCity No sir, that mesh is to reinforce the wheel because it is thin, but if you grind and grind on the sides, it will remove abrasive material from the sides, which will make the wheel thinner and thinner, and at some point it will be thin enough to explode, thats why manufacturers always recommend not to use those wheels for grinding, specially on the sides...

    FUCKIN HELL, he's gonna hurt himself baddd. IF THE DISC IS SPINNING TOWARDS THE EDGE OF THE BLADE, FLIP THE EDGE SO IT'S FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION.. where he's holding it, he needs to flip it so that he has it facing down. just imagine him taking the chisel off, turning it upside down so he's holding the handle above the blade now, and then putting the edge of it on the same exact spot on the disc that he was doing before- his chisel is just facing the opposite direction. NOW THAT WOULD BE SAFE.. that way the edge won't catch and dig into the disc and then get shot out of your hand- probably giving yourself a nice cut on your hand and maybe more. advertising some seriously dangerous methods.
