    @7:28 "So here in desktop mode" Is this really all you have to say about initiating that mode?

    is it possible to install python and other shell-based apps or do I need to find a way to make the device read write to do apt install etc thanks

      I haven't tested it myself yet, but I have read that you can install python. You are also able to get a "fakeroot" shell and run apt installs. There are some recent posts about it in the forums: forums.ubports.com/category/101/libertine

      Hi, unfortunately, there is no official port for the Galaxy A3. Here is a list of devices that work devices.ubuntu-touch.io/

    So it’s a Linux version of Samsung DeX? That’s sick!!! Definitely trying this for work.

    • @CyberPunkEdu
      @CyberPunkEdu  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep! Similar to DeX. I think this idea was first on Ubuntu Touch actually. It's still a work in progress, but quite neat.

    • @AnalogSins
      @AnalogSins 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I suppose this is way better than dex. This is not a "desktop style frontend" to a mobile app, this a compatibility layer to run full desktop apps.

    • @CyberPunkEdu
      @CyberPunkEdu  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AnalogSins Yes, you are right. It is as you described. It can run proper desktop apps without needing to recode them for mobile. So anything available on Ubuntu desktop now is potentially usable on Ubuntu Touch.

    Hi @CyberPunkEdu please know that I managed to install Ubuntu Touch on my pixel 3a successfully watching your tutorials as reference. Thank you! In fact, I was tinkering with installing Obsidian (the note taking app) using Libertine containers which says it's installed but all I can see is the Vim text editor in the app launcher. Thoughts?

    • @CyberPunkEdu
      @CyberPunkEdu  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment. I'm glad that you were able to install Ubuntu Touch. If you don't see Obsidian in the app launcher, try refreshing it by pulling down on the apps on the home screen. Otherwise, try reinstalling Obsidian. Ensure you are installing the correct package, and ensure it has been installed before trying to launch it. Also I don't see Obsidian in the regular ubuntu package archives, did you install it from the deb file? obsidian.md/download

    • @vageesh
      @vageesh ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CyberPunkEdu yep. I download the deb file installer from the link you shared. No 'obsidian' in the launcher :/ after refresh/reboot. But Vim text editor did appear 🤔

      @@vageeshsorry the deb I directed you to may be the wrong architecture. I'll try to figure it out and get back to you.

      @CyberPunkEdu  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vageesh I tried installing the deb with libertine-container-manager, and it did git an error about the architecture being incorrect. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to install Obsidian that I can see.

    Do you think can you host a webserver on ubuntu touch?

    • @CyberPunkEdu
      @CyberPunkEdu  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not as easy as on a desktop/server GNU/Linux machine, but apparently is had been done: forums.ubports.com/topic/7903/nginx-web-server-on-libertine-it-works/3?_=1695657492456&lang=en-US

    Hi. I did every step you did, chose my discord debian file, let it install, but it doesnt appear in my apps. Even after rebooting 😢

    • @CyberPunkEdu
      @CyberPunkEdu  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no. The problem with most deb files is that they need to be built for the arm architecture. That's probably why it won't show up after installation. Unfortunately, if the package is not in the search repository, then it probably won't work.

    Hi there. i have a device running Ubuntu touch 16.04 and am unable to connect it to wifi. I cannot even get updates or access the store to download things like the tweak tool. The networks are visible and so are the settings in the menu and notifications center. I can even attempt to connect and although the phone says connected, I go to wifi settings by swiping down and when I click the network, there is no ip address. I don't know if anyone can answer the problem I have but any advice/ help is much appreciated. I am a noob to Ubuntu but have been running it on my pc for awhile and I wanted to study it on a mobile device. I like it.

      Hello there, and thanks for the comment. The wifi issue sounds frustrating. Which device are you using? Most of the officially supported devices should work. In rare cases, it could be a hardware issue but unlikely. There are a few things to try:
      1. Re-install with devel channel instead of stable or vice versa
      2. Also, you could try installing 20.04 instead of 16.04.
      3. Make sure the device is running the original firmware at the correct version (usually Android 9) BEFORE installing Ubuntu Touch.
      4. The community is helpful as well. Forums: forums.ubports.com/

      Of course, feel free to reach out here as well.

      Thank you very much for your response and the the suggestions. I am using a one plus six T. I think it is worth mentioning that it came from Germany but is sim unlocked. I will try installing 20.04 and see where it goes. Already got an Ethernet to USB-C adapter coming in the mail. Anymore suggestions to help me on this journey, please drop them down below 🙂 @@CyberPunkEdu

      Thank you very much for your suggestions and for taking the time to reply to my thread. You are right. It is frustrating but I used to jailbreak iPhones in 2011 around the IOS4 days and I learned then not to use a tinkering phone as a personal phone. It's just a hobby. I expected there would be bugs. Linux mobile is the greatest thing since Windows Phone in my opinion. I'm just going to install 20.04 and see what happens. Already got an Ethernet to USB-C adapter coming in the mail. Anymore advice that can help me along on this journey is great. Please just post it down below 🙂@@CyberPunkEdu
