Robert Nesta Marley, OM (6 February 1945 - 11 May 1981) was a Jamaican singer, songwriter and musician. Considered one of the pioneers of reggae, his musical career was marked by fusing elements of reggae, ska, and rocksteady, as well as his distinctive vocal and songwriting style.Marley's contributions to music increased the visibility of Jamaican music worldwide, and made him a global figure in popular culture for over a decade.[4][5] Over the course of his career Marley became known as a Rastafari icon, and he infused his music with a sense of spirituality. He is also considered a global symbol of Jamaican music and culture and identity, and was controversial in his outspoken support for the legalization of marijuana, while he also advocated for Pan-Africanism.
Born in Nine Mile, British Jamaica, Marley began his professional musical career in 1963, after forming Bob Marley and the Wailers. The group released its debut studio album The Wailing Wailers in 1965, which contained the single "One Love/People Get Ready"; the song was popular worldwide, and established the group as a rising figure in reggae.[8] The Wailers subsequently released eleven further studio albums; while initially employing louder instrumentation and singing, the group began engaging in rhythmic-based song construction in the late 1960s and early 1970s, which coincided with the singer's conversion to Rastafarianism. During this period Marley relocated to London, and the group typified their musical shift with the release of the album The Best of The Wailers (1971).
The group attained international success after the release of the albums Catch a Fire and Burnin' (both 1973), and forged a reputation as touring artists. Following the disbandment of the Wailers a year later, Marley went on to release his solo material under the band's name.[10] His debut studio album Natty Dread (1974) received positive reception, as did its follow-up Rastaman Vibration (1976). A few months after the album's release Marley survived an assassination attempt at his home in Jamaica, which prompted him to permanently relocate to London. During his time in London he recorded the album Exodus (1977); it incorporated elements of blues, soul, and British rock, enjoyed widespread commercial and critical success.
In 1977, Marley was diagnosed with acral lentiginous melanoma; he died as a result of the illness in 1981. His fans around the world expressed their grief, and he received a state funeral in Jamaica. The greatest hits album Legend was released in 1984, and became the best-selling reggae album of all time.[11] Marley also ranks as one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated sales of more than 75 million records worldwide. He was posthumously honored by Jamaica soon after his death with a designated Order of Merit by his nation. In 1994, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Yes ma'am. I know a couple years ago an F.B.I. agent came out on his death bed and said that he was the one who killed him. That he gave Bob some shoes that when Bob put his foot in something poked him. That's how he got it in his toe. If this is true I don't know why she didn't pick up on that.

I've heard them perform outdoors in Upstate Western New York at the Annual Lilac Festival, and I have to agree that when he and the band do his father's music, as well as their own, it's quite startling how much alike they sound! We were actually walking across a street (a bridge actually), and I actually thought they were just playing Bob Marley on a loud speaker of some kind. My friend who took me there said "No there's an amphitheater just past the bridge, see that sign?" Of course the sign said it was his son and the band. We could hear them really well, it was amazing!

I loved Bob Marley. When I was in Jamaica, I heard he was their national hero and that they believed in one love (and this was in the Spring of 1985 (when I was 24 years old) when I stayed at a small resort in Runaway Bay. I heard all of the "latest" reggae music while there - but it was only a matter of minutes before there was a Bob Marley tume on. Bob's music sang to my soul! Being a nurse from a very small community on Lake Michigan in the northern lower peninsula, I had not been aware of his music despite him having performed in the USA - so glad my trip opened up my soul and let his music in!!!!

I've owned a home in Boyne City for 30 years where.my husband and I currently live (married in 2000 - my one and only marriage). I grew up in.Boyne City after moving there from Detroit in 1968. My maiden name was West and I had dark brown hair with natural auburn highlights in the Summer. I went blonde on a whim 5years ago before a trip to Aruba approx. 5yrs ago with my husband. Do I possibly know you? That would be fun! My friend from Jamaica, Raymond Douglas, please seed away last year from pancreatic cancer ar the young age of 54 - after only having "stomach pains" for which he had started to see a doctor less than a week before he passed. He had not missed work except for the day he first saw the doctor. My husband had talked to Raymond on the phone - but I regret that we had not gone to Jamaica so they could meet
in person (we had planned on going Spring of 20t20 - but plans changed after Raymond passed. Sorry for being so gabby! I have had a blessed life with wonderful memories❤

Maybe the touring and all the rest made it hard to be grounded and maintain his practices.
