Bob Marley is literally one of the greatest musicians to walk the planet. I can’t believe he did all that before age 36 and then passed away so early. Rest In Peace to the legend!
He definitely had a bone to pick with racial tensions. He was also a great musician obviously. Beyond that he was a typical hippie. Not some kind of Rasta prophet
Coolest interview to this day. I’ve been listening to his music for so many years, and the older I get the more wisdom I learn from the same lyrics. He truly has a very strong and positive effect on the world to this day.
What I’ve come to innerstand about Rastafari music is that nobody sets out to be a ‘star’. It’s not for fame, recognition or money - it’s about the power of the word and the music. I have been a fan of this genre for so many years and only in the last few days am I coming to see this truth. Bob wasn’t trying to be a global superstar, he was spreading the word of truth and light. It’s given me a new perspective and deep respect for his music and all of the other truth speakers, Jah9 and Vaughn Benjamin 🕊 are just two other exquisite examples.

I've been to Bob's house in Kingston and hung out at a Nyabinghi and few Rasta parties (mostly by accident) . Regarding the verbiage: I don't think many people understand the literal reason why Rasta's say the word I (eye) when they say Selassie I (eye) In European tradition, every King had a numerical title, i.e. Henry the 8th or William the II. In Ethopia, November 1930 when Selassie came to power, he was the first Haile, but for multiple reasons (including translation from Amharic) , instead of calling him, "Haile Selassie the First", the certain individuals (Ethopians and Jamaicans) reinterpreted the title Selassie I So when When someone says Selassie I (eye) they are essentially saying "Selassie the First" It's not wrong, just a different way of saying his official title. If you are into Marley, take some time to learn about Selassie and Marcus Garvey, two great men who changed the world.
