What a cool place. Sometimes I think we get so caught up in what is around the next bend that we ignore the treasures around us. Thanks for taking us along my friend!
Awesome hike Doug! Definitely some great places to explore, the shear cliffs of the quarry are amazing and I will definitely have to check it out. Thank You
Doug, it was cool to see some footage from my back yard. Next time you're in the area, you should check out the Training Hill to Olmstead Loop area, nice, challenging hike up with a great pay off. Spectacular wild flowers in the spring.
Cool trail! I've been driving past the top end of that quarry for 40 years but never knew about this trail - right near the famous Training Hill. Definitely looks like a place to explore!
A few bits of interesting info... The Auburn dam project was scrapped due to a fault line underneath the proposed site. Many unfortunate souls have ended their lives by jumping off Foresthill Bridge. Just up river past clementine spillway on the left is a large limestone outcrop known as robbers roost... The Gasaway gang (whos leader was female) would sit and wait for the stage and signal with a mirror to their gangmembers it was time to ambush. The native legends about thumb rock are very interesting and very hard to find. However from what ive learned an ancient god in the form of a massive snake lived deep underground in what i believe to be massive caverns. I believe that treasure could also be hidden in this area and deep underground caves and tunnels connect thumb rock to the Tiechert quarry.
Any cool local trails near you? Shout 'em out!
