What is a Clinical Biochemist?

Clinical Biochemists diagnose and manage disease by analysing bodily fluid. Chemical pathologists test for proteins, vitamins and hormones. They then look at the patterns of the test results to work out why someone is feeling unwell. Find out more about what a Clinical Biochemist does in this short video.

Does a chemical pathologist or a clinical biochemist examine patients or visit patients in the wards? Do they have any direct contact with respect to patient care?

Hi Tanvi. Thank you for the comment. While clinical biochemists do not typically have direct contact with patients in the ward their work is very integral to patient care. They report blood test and other results to the ward doctors and advise on treatment. They also monitor patients with chronic conditions. They are involved in multidisciplinary teams and play a central role in healthcare.
