I only ever saw one Pacific with a load ,at a intersection on the main road, where it waiting to cross over the main road to another forestry road on the opposite side.
I remember seeing Pacific's hauling logs in Dunedin in about 1977 , probably bound for Port Chalmers. I cant remember what company it was ,but I think the trucks were yellow. And I also remember at that time Dunedin based Dynes transport having some always beautifully presented mettalic blue Kenworths.I was keen on Kenworths because of the tv show Movin On .
Working for international Harvester back in the day, we had a great deal to do with NZFP in Tokoroa. They obviously ran a lot of internationals, P9 and P10 Pacifica's, I remember among other thing being involved with insulating the cabs floor, fire wall and exhaust of the Pacific's in a attempt to keep the cab temperatures down. and on occasions being sent to Tokaroa to collect and deliver said vehicles. I dont know how successful these mods. were when they were put under loaded conditions. From my fading memory I believe that the Pacific's had NTC250 Cummins driving through 10 speed Road Rangers. Again I could be wrong on the exact details.
Yes Murupara had and still today have some great truck drivers through out the kaingaroa forest. Excellent video bill.
Grew up in murupara, those triples carting old crop logs were mighty impressive
