      One of the potential biggest flaws in the rehab business imo is how involved former addicts are in the process. Addicts are running these rehabs, half way houses, sober living homes etc and it’s so ripe for fraud. Just look at all the Florida flop houses and sex trafficking. Guess who runs all those? You bet it’s mostly “former” addicts. I say former in quotes because half these people are liars and can’t be trusted. Shit for all you know they still get high they just got better at hiding it

    I've been to treatment 4 times. The only thing that works is if the person addicted really wants to be sober. Is able to stay away from people that are bad for their recovery and make serious life altering choices. Even with all that the chances of relapse are almost certain. But being able to pick yourself back up after a relapse and get back onboard with being clean is powerful as well. As weak as we feel in our addiction being able to say I did this makes me feel strong.

  • @jerzmecooks3910

    Iv been to rehab (twice) and it isn’t until your in there you really see what it’s all about. Rehabs might be great for some people and might work if you apply their teachings but most of the time it doesn’t work. People having to leave after being there two or three weeks into treatment because something with their insurance and seeing people crying saying they don’t want to leave because they are not ready and will relapse. GROWN men crying because they know what will happen as soon as they go home. Its just sad. I can go on and on about expectations vs the reality when I got there.

    As someone in recovery, the only thing that has helped me find long term recovery was AA. People often misconstrue that AA meetings are the program of AA, which is incorrect. The meetings of AA are the FELLOWSHIP of AA. The program of AA is written in the book Alcoholics Anonymous, written by Bill W and the first 100 men and women who recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body by working the steps.

    • @psychologybear6846
      @psychologybear6846 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      equine therapy works when done right. The idea is not to visit a damn horse and magically recover. The idea is to establish a meaningful relationship with the horse. Horses are assholes and taking care of one requires a lot of work. It's like having a dog times 10. Furthermore, horses are naturally untrusting. In order to get a horse to trust you, you have to regulate your emotions and learn how to calm down, even when they're being a dick to you.

      @@NoPlus500 Yeah, maybe I didn't explain it thoroughly enough. Equine therapy teaches transferable skills. It teaches empathy, gives people meaning, teaches people emotional regulation, etc. It seems cooky, I get it. However, equine therapy has shown to be efficacious especially with prison inmates and recitivism rates. I suspect, however, that these people are just doing whatever sounds nice and not following a regimen that actually helps. The only efficacious data I have seen, albeit preliminary, has been long term bonding with a specific horse that is not broken in and is especially difficult to bond with.

    I wrote it once and I'm gonna repeat myself. In terms of rehab money will not buy you better treatment. AA, AN, AG, those are proven to work and are free. Once you have motivation you can recover free of charge.

    • @americannightmare2109
      @americannightmare2109 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @6Oko6Demona6
      @6Oko6Demona6 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@americannightmare2109 true. Of course, physical dependency can be a problem in case if certain substances, but that's purely medical problem not psychological. You wouldn't treat cancer with psychotherapy so you shouldn't treat dependency this way either. You wouldn't also go to some witch to treat those.
      But first of all, all those rehab places didn't have any medical devices, those take in people who are already after the detox. And once you detoxed the quality of the therapy you get at this rehab is not better than what you get in the church's basement. Well, it's a great idea to seek help from professionals but that doesn't make you any more likely to stay off drugs or alcohol. AA etc have therapeutic value over long period of time for multitude of reasons.
      So, it is what it is. The most important factor is the motivation to get better of a sick person. Once there is motivation you can get world's best therapy, free of charge.
      *I'm not gonna say there are no shortcomings in the program, but that doesn't change the fact that nothing else works better anyway.

    As an addict in recovery, having been to treatment. The facility is only the jump start. The real work, the real commitment to recovery comes from working the steps and being part of a 12 step fellowship. I went to rehab once, the 30 days helped me with the withdrawals and after walking out the doors, getting a sponsor, starting the steps, being in meetings and then yes. That is where the foundation of recovery is. I’m so grateful for Narcotics Anonymous because that fellowship is saving my life because it’s about a 180 change. I don’t agree with a lot of this video. Addiction is a mental health issue and needs to be treated as such. It's not a lack of control. That said, these "rehab" facilities are absurd! We need universal healthcare that includes mental health care services for all and to destigmatize and decriminalize addiction. Rich people can afford a place like this while poor people end up incarcerated for struggling with addiction.

My friend who is now my barber I met through rehab since he was near the area I was located in and I booked him. He told me that the owner of the rehab I was in which costed 20K he would ask him for drugs cause he slanged dope on the side lol, though he understands and doesn’t do that around me. I believe it. It’s an evil business where they see your condition as a money sign.

    AA is successful because it relies on the addicts willingness to get better. Forcing people to go to rehab is useless. They have to want to go and to get better. Also AA has a support system that rehab systems lack. A good rehab treatment is Marine Corps boot camp. You have no time for yourself except 1 hour in the evening. Then its sleep, wake up, work out, get yelled at all day and repeat.

    While these rehabs cost a lot, they also give them everything they need and they still relapse. Cant fault the facility for that. Many have doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, dieticians, counselors, priests. What else should they do? They need to pay those salaries and rent and food, medicine, taking them on outings.

    I went to rehab, my insurance paid for 30 days. I saw the bill and it was 30k$ for the 32 days. Did I think it was worth 1000$ a day, I don't think so. But it was good to go to a place to get away from the drugs even if it was for 30 days. I suppose if you have money you can always find the expensive choice for any decision you're making.

    Going to a fancy rehab won’t work. You have to have the courage to put yourself out of your comfort zone and get real. Going to a resort, making sure you’re very comfortable...is not going to put you where you need to be. I credit anyone trying to help themselves but I’m not sure this is how to do it.

    Alot of these people went to rehab because they are broke and there family won't give them any more money and force them into treatment. You will never get clean no matter how expensive the treatment is if you don't want it. Then they get out and the family gives them what they have left to help them get on there feet and the relapse. Ive been clean 3 years and it took me 3 times in treatment so over 180 days. I know people whos grandma refinanced there house to send them to rehab. To find out they died of an overdose a week out of treatment. Very sad how people take advantage of people with a disease.

    You have the same chance of maintaining sobriety following any old two-week long vacation that removes you from a drug environment as you do going to a rehab program. When unbiased research was done on the efficacy of rehabs in the US, it was found that only 5 to 7% of people maintain sobriety for the year following treatment. There's a reason most rehabs don't do studies on their efficacy, and that's because they know it would be dismal; but for those that do actually do studies, their data is pretty scewed in their favor. The clients that respond to the studies are most likely going to be the only ones that have maintained sobriety, as the clients that haven't are more likely to not be able to be reached, dismissive of anything to do with rehab, likely to be embarrassed, etc. So in general, the studies end up not only having small participant pools, the successful group almost always heavily outbumbers the unsuccessful one. The rehabs that do these types of studies are the ones that boast about their high success rates. It's all BS.
    The main thing that rehabs provide is removing people from their normal environments. Being out of your environment strongly reduces cravings and brings you out of your everyday habits. It's usually those that have the strength to change that will stay clean, with or without rehab. Rehab can teach you all it wants. It can't give you a sustained inner strength when you go home. And honestly, studies have shown that the overwhelming majority of people with addictions get clean on their own between their mid twenties to early thirties. It's typically only those with the most severe cases of addiction that end up going to rehab in the first place, so of course they'd be the least likely to maintain sobriety. Psychologists will tell people that addiction requires rehab, but they suffer from clinician's bias, in that they only see the worst cases, so they generalize that level of addiction to all addicts. Addiction is a spectrum and not all addicts are the same. Even their drug of choice influences how they respond to treatment (i.e.: heroin users are more antisocial and get less benefit from group therapy, whereas alcohol users usually benefit greatly). There absolutely needs to be more actual research done into addiction, but even if there is, it'll be funded by big pharma so then more pharmaceuticals will be thrown around as treatment.
    Being able to develop inner strength to change is the key to sobriety, and in all honesty, if someone needs help, one-on-one cognitive behavioral therapy is a better and cheaper alternative to traditional rehab. Sobriety isn't a one-size-fits-all thing and working individually with someone who holds you accountable is so beneficial. The only problem is that it doesn't bring you out of your environment, so it's not a foolproof plan. If a program were developed using the CBT model that also enabled you to be out of your everyday environment, it would be a great start to improving the current system. Additionally, a lot of addicts don't have crippling addictions and they may avoid treatment because they don't want to give up their drug of choice all together. Some people just want to learn how to use responsibly, like with alcohol for example. There are new, emerging programs that teach people personal responsibility and moderation in their substance use, it's called "moderation management," and it's a great way to get a bunch of folks with mild addictions into therapy to help improve their lives and to help them to not fall deeper down the rabbit hole. I'm super excited to see how it develops in the future.
    If you have an addiction, remember rehab does work for some folks - it's just that it's not the only option. Do your own research into alternatives. I know Google is flooded with paid pages that promote traditional rehab programs, but trust me, the alternatives are there. Find what you think would work best for you. AA/NA usually have the same sobriety rates as tradtional rehabs, although they do work for some people. But at the end of the day, your inner-strength for self-improvement is what will make the difference in any method you choose. And if you decide to go down the medication route (i.e.: Vivitrol or any injectables), please do yourself a favor and read the FDA labels for the drugs which are available online - they have some horrific side effects that strongly outweigh the benefits. And always remember, after some time clean, any relapse comes with the greatest chance of ODing, as most ODs occur due to your decreased tolerance and habit of using a certain amount previously.
    Thanks for reading and be safe out there everyone! 🌻

    what is swinging a pool noddle around animals going to do? poor girls still looked high. People get addictions for a reason not because they got bored one day and thought "oh yeah, lets take meth".
    They face hardship, struggle to cope with these things and turn to drugs to make it all feel better.
    So again how the hell is waving a pool noodle around going to help some over come an addiction, their are actually getting these people to talk about whats making them feel so shit that they need to take the pain away with drugs.

    The place I went to in West Palm Beach was $21,500 out of pocket, plus $1,500 for detox, which I paid all out of pocket since I don't have insurance. It was a really nice place, but the whole industry is bull shit. Since I was self pay, they only drug tested me once a week, but the people who were going through insurance, they were drug tested every other day, because the rehab would charge the insurance a ridiculous amount of money per test, even though they only probably cost $10 each. All the therapy and shit is bull shit, all it is is they babysit you for a month and hope you stay clean when you get out. Quitting drugs is all about will power. You either do it or you don't, no one else to blame. Yeah there is support, like AA or NA, but that's all it is, support. No one can quit doing it for you but yourself. The only difference between the expensive places and cheap places is level of comfort. I went to a shitty place the first time, and it was miserable going through that process in such shitty conditions.

    The private rehab industry is one of the shadiest industries in the country. In order for the money to keep flowing in, there needs to be a steady stream of addicts in need of help.. if rehabs were so effective that they actually helped to cure patients of their addictions then there wouldn’t be much of a business because. It’s basically like the rest of the American health care system.. it’s all designed to manage symptoms and not actually cure illnesses.. if everyone who got sick was able to easily go see a doctor and be cured.. the current healthcare system as we know it would collapse. It’s very unfortunate that this is the system we have in place

    The only thing that actually works for addiction is a complete change in the way you view the world and your problems and even then it's still a tough road. This is why AA had some success. It tries to retrain you to see things in a different way but this is all easier said than done. Anything claiming to fix addiction in a week or two is straight bullshit. It really takes an epiphany in some form to break free of it.
