A mistake that I also would also personally add is having regrets. Wether it’s not trying a fun drink, not going on a ride or missing out on some merchandise, you don’t want to have regrets. This is especially key for people who may only be getting to go this one time, yes some of these things may be scary or expensive, but almost every single time it is worth the extra dollar or the extra scare for the best experience at the parks!
We unknowingly made mistake # 1: coming during cheerleading competitions, which you forgot to include. We thought early May would be quiet. Wow, were we wrong! Tuesday and Wednesday were crazy in spots. The entry line to get into Islands stretched into the parking garage. Hagrid's line stood still, as hundreds of people flooded the soon-to-be express line with access passes. I don't know what that was about. Fortunately, the preceeding weekend was much calmer, and we did stay at Royal Pacific and took advantage of those express passes on other things. Without that, it would've been a miserable waste of a trip. We enjoyed getting to meet you two.
#4 - I have markers on my kitchen door with all the ride heights for Universal & Busch Gardens, so my youngest can see what he'll be able to go on when we're allowed to fly to Florida again. Love from the UK 🇬🇧
When my wife and I did Universal Orlando a couple years ago, we stayed at Aventura. While the bus was nice, we quickly found out that the water taxi from Sapphire Falls was a VERY short walk away. Even better, the security check at the water taxi was MUCH shorter than the one at the main gate. So pro tip if you're staying at Aventura - just walk on over to the Sapphire Falls water taxi dock!
One addition. Always verify park closing times day of, and see what is affected by the closing. A few years ago my family and I were planning to have dinner at fast food boulevard in Springfield, only to discover the restaurants were all closed because they closed 1 hour before park closing AND the park was closing an hour early. So this meant that trying to eat a 4 pm on a day that was usually a 6 pm close wasn’t possible because the park was closing at 5, and fast food boulevard had already closed at 4 pm. Also I’d recommend checking the value of the fast passes included at the premium hotels versus buying them separately based on your planned park days and how many rides you are really going to ride. The difference from the premium hotels to Sapphire Falls can be several hundred dollars a night, and while a fast pass can run you $75 per pass, if you are planning to stay on property for 7 nights, but only go to the park for 4 days, and of those 4 days only plan to focus on rides for one or two days, you would actually be better off staying at Sapphire (still a beautiful property with a great beach feel) and buying fast passes for the 2 days. And if you were looking at a specific premium resort because of a certain restaurant or shops, you can take the boat from Sapphire to the main hub in city walk and immediately take a boat to the premium hotel you want to eat, shop, or visit.
Number one mistake - going in the summer when it is hot as Hades. I always go off season and make the visit so much more enjoyable. Hopefully mid-September if all plans out. To me this was top six mistakes followed by a rickamendation. Well done.
@@williamlayton1827 Was there in July was super hot, been there in September before will be hot but fingers crossed not 100 degrees with 95% humidity like it was when I was there in July. If it is that hot - will just deal. Prefer March but not open enough yet this year.
Um, one small issue: that month is hurricane season. I TRIED to go in September and wound up cancelling. If I had stuck to the original plan, my flight would have been held back anyway: the hurricane struck the very day my plane would have arrived in Orlando.
A suggestion I tried that seems to work: if you want to go in January, wait at least 7-9 days before you go. That way the New Year's vacation people will have left and the parks/CityWalk won't be jam packed. ONE tradeoff: it can get cold in South Florida so do not forget a jacket or at least a sweater.
We went for the first time July 2020. Only mistake I made was not staying at the premiere hotel for the express pass. It might have saved us $100. We stayed at Cabana Bay for 3 nights and then stayed at Disney for 4 days. Then drove back home to IL. Next time I will get the premiere hotel for 1 night.
My husband loves sparkling water too! He recently had heat exhaustion at work.....and the doctor told him to cut the carbonated water, as it actually dehydrates you! So be careful!
It does not dehydrate you. Nearly all of the medical data we have comparing carbonated water vs flat water points to equal hydration. I would get a doctor that gives advice based on evidence not old wives' tales.
Great advice thanks . We are flying from Northern Ireland this October taking the kids to Universal and staying onsite, your videos have been so helpful with all the tours, experiences and pro tips. Keep up the great work 👏
When planning our first trip your videos are all that we watched to get prepare for the trip. I also recommend you to anyone I know planning a trip to Universal.
You're right about Easter weekend, packed even with the "limited capacity." I splurged and bought a VIP pass (pricey), and skipped all the lines even the line for Hagrid's Motorbike ride. It's worth it, if you live far away and don't visit Universal Studios often. And I bought my two park ticket at the resort kiosk, they sell the ticktes there if you don't buy them online.
The vlog is awesome but really the question I have is how do you keep your skin so smooth? Is it a special shaver? Shave Cream ? What is it? Totally Smooth 😁👍
Hi Rick. Visited Universal 3x in 5 years from PA. We go in mid/late October, still warm enough for water rides, but past the hot summer temps, & prior to holiday crowds. We stayed at Hard Rock 2x & Royal Pacific 1x, which is worth it because you can walk to either park in < 10 minutes (no waiting for boats or buses) and the unlimited Express Pass is worth it ... no appointments or 1x only ride experience ... you can go over & over if you want. Hope to visit again when the covid restrictions are Over.
Another tip is getting the explorer universal ticket if you are staying multiple days/nights because it allows you to go or all three parks without purchasing multiple park to park tickets for each day. Also the explorer ticket last for 14 days/2weeks. For me and my brother, we think it is worth the price we pay for the explorer ticket for our duration of our universal Orlando trip.
I got to see you capture those Awesome Veloci-Coaster shots live at the soft opening. That was beyond rad! I have been watching your videos silently, but always liking what I watch. I watched A LOT of your videos when preparing for our second family trip since it was during Christmas time. I downloaded the app and made a list of rides my kids could do since I have a 9yr old and 4yr old. I also added the rides that do child swap as well.
First trip we did was three days week of July going into August (absolutely awful.) - too many people and WAY too hot mid summer. Next, by chance we went in early October. Yes, the fright night displays were up. But difference between Orlando and Hollywood-Hollywood does NOT cover up all their displays (ie gory, graphic etc-not great for small children) where as Orlando DOES. Maybe due to weather etc. first week of October we also found out is the last week of “busy summer season” for Orlando. So water parks still open, all summer perks still available with greatly reduced crowds (volcano bay was amazing with very few people) and the weather is still great, humidity is low, and rain is not super frequent. We had the best time ever with our four kids going in October. Highly recommend that time. And no, we didn’t go to Halloween horror nights, and we still had a great time with the parks closing earlier for those events.
I compared the military price for Portofino Bay and the military prices for Express passes and Endless Summer Dockside and the difference was too great to choose other than Dockside! Had this been a family of four rather than a solo trip, that may not have been true.
I liked universal and we are going back in the future, but if you got little kids, ages 4 and under, unless you got 1 or 2 adults who are gonna do things with the kids specifically, it may not be the best theme park to go to yet. That's my opinion and what I have learned. Great video again.

I would say do the math when it comes to the express pass. Depending on the amount of people in your group it may be cheaper to buy the express passes separately. The premier hotels are way more than the preferred hotels...like hundreds. And express passes don't work at Volcano Bay.
The video is great, and I agree with all of the mistakes to avoid. 😎🌴 Express passes for tomorrow over $200😩🤯. That’s more than a park ticket. Total would be over $360 🤯😳😎🌴 For one person for one day. 😳🙃 Ouch.

I just purchased tickets for the 19th and 20th of November through Universals site, but you mentioned the meetup some of the meet up dates were also on those two days. Will this interfere with my tickets?
Best strategy is to begin the day at IOA Velocicoaster the 1st day, second day Hagrid's motorbike. Early hours for me when it's at Universal... I simply don't care. Bad strategy to begin the day at Universal. So 1 mistake: begin the day at Universal Studios ;-)
I am going to universal in may 29th and my brothers friends and my family are staying At Portofino bay and I got express passes and my brothers friend doesn’t so there are going to get the when they check in tip go to Portofino bay if u want express passes. Have a good day
We'll be there the last week of May. This is our 4th trip in the last year, so we only plan on going to the park Monday - Thursday 24th-27th. How bad do you think those weekdays will be?
I think that's toooo pricey. I forced myself to wait until January to go and the parks were nowhere as crowded. The one tradeoff is that it can be pretty chilly so do NOT forget a sweater or jacket if you want to try that. I do not recommend going any later than the 9th of January as that's when summer starts for most of South America. And Harry Potter is popular down there. On my last day, the Brazilians showed up at the hotel. Their tour group filled two buses. Yes, two Greyhound buses. They were not going to Disney World. I was so glad that was the last day of my trip. I pity those who came the following day, hoping for a slow, quiet visit. My visit wasn't as quiet as one would expect. The three days I was there, the bus was packed with Brits, Scots and Australians. I learned the hard way to always check for holidays of OTHER countries before going.
Don't buy the express passes. Use the single riders line and don't go to the Harry Potter side of the park until later in the day/evening. Spend the early part of the day going to all the other rides first. All rides decrease in wait time after 5pm, when everyone starts leaving.
I booked mine through Universal's online ticket office. Once I got off the plane, I just went to the kiosk near the bus pickup and showed my ID and reservation number. It took only 4 minutes tops.
Sure you’ve probably realized this by now, but weekends are always pretty crummy. The hotels are all booked up this whole week so it seems like the timing is a bit unfortunate.
Are Express passes like Disney's Fast passes? Disney currently has a pause on fast passes. Is this the same for Universal? I do understand these are two separate companies. I'm just curious.
@@VacationVibesTravel If you play it smart, and it isn’t supposed to be too crowded (check a few crowd calendars online) it isn’t too bad to get a restaurant. If you can get a reservation, get it. That’s always a good rule of thumb. But if you don’t try and stay until park close AND try and get into a city walk restaurant by doing walk up you should be fine. My family and I typically eat in park for dinner if we plan to stay until closing (Leaky Cauldron etc) or leave the park early (about 60-90 minutes before closing) to dine in city walk. You can also reach out to a restaurant and see what the wait looks like if leaving early to see what wait to expect. A very important think that wasn’t mentioned that I would make sure of is what time the park is closing and when restaurants and shops close in relation to that. Some restaurants (inside the park) close an hour before park close so you don’t want to walk up at 5:45 on a 7 pm close to find out you cant eat because the restaurant is actually closing in 15 minutes.
Can someone help me out i have a quick question I ordered 2 tickets for both parks and i did the option of it being moblie how do i do the locker system with a moblie ticket
Also DONT book more than a month in advance. They changed park hours from when I booked until now. Had THREE hours a day LESS in the parks then they did the week before. No fireworks either. Oh and no early admission to islands for a month even though we paid for it. ITS A RIP OFF
A mistake that I also would also personally add is having regrets.

We'll be there the last week of May. This is our 4th trip in the last year, so we only plan on going to the park Monday - Thursday 24th-27th. How bad do you think those weekdays will be?
bad. right when schools getting out for most.
i’ve been so excited to see me say the closing line and i’m so curious when it’s going to be in a video:0
When did you do it, in bad at file management?
@@RixFlix haha it was last friday i was wearing the spider-man gear and we were by the butter beer cart with my family
Love the Harry Potter videos
Yay, a top six! 🥳
I'm going next month. I'm doomed.....🤣🤦🏾♀️ I want to buy fast passes but at $249 a pop??? That's insane!😭
I buy my tickets online and get them at the will call booth
I booked mine through Universal's online ticket office. Once I got off the plane, I just went to the kiosk near the bus pickup and showed my ID and reservation number. It took only 4 minutes tops.
I visit from across the sea and never made any of these mistakes
i’m going this saturday and sunday will it be busy?
Sure you’ve probably realized this by now, but weekends are always pretty crummy. The hotels are all booked up this whole week so it seems like the timing is a bit unfortunate.
Are Express passes like Disney's Fast passes? Disney currently has a pause on fast passes. Is this the same for Universal? I do understand these are two separate companies. I'm just curious.
It’s a skip the regular line pass, but you have to purchase. And the price varies, the busier the day the more they cost
Mistake #7: Riding Fast and Furious Supercharged
Rix is my hero
Yeah, the only mistake we made was booking a 5 night stay. We got bored by day 2 :(
When you say easter week. Is it the week before or after the easter weekend ?
The week before and the week after both have higher attendance
@@RixFlix thank you
I AM A BIG FAN👁👄👁
Didn’t forget to mention that if your going to Tray and Eat at Any Restaurant in City Walk you need to make a Reservation about a Month in Advance
What do you mean by Tray and Eat? Planning our trip for October so trying to eat everything set up that we need to.
Is it true that only people that stay at their hotels can go in?
Can someone help me out i have a quick question I ordered 2 tickets for both parks and i did the option of it being moblie how do i do the locker system with a moblie ticket
The locker attendants gives a locker ticket to use😎
Also DONT book more than a month in advance. They changed park hours from when I booked until now. Had THREE hours a day LESS in the parks then they did the week before. No fireworks either. Oh and no early admission to islands for a month even though we paid for it. ITS A RIP OFF
Can you buy express passes for volcano bay
