Hi Rick, I would like to hear you analyze Animal by Def Leppard because it has some very unique chord changes. Maybe you can do a what makes this song great video on it.
Rick - I hope you understand how happy your subscribers here on TH-cam are for YOU. Obviously we continue benefit from your life-long adventure in music, and we're happy and thankful for that as well. As someone who is about your age, there is also a certain celebratory feeling whenever good things happen to good people. You share quite a lot with us. Thank you very much and a peaceful and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Your kids will have stories and memories forever.
Carlos Santana is cool, still relevant, still evolving and would be a cool guest! I've appreciated your guests so much! I couldn't believe Joni spent some time with you! Amazing! Keep striving.
Rick Wakeman's full of stories and loves telling them. He's actually a bit of a minor celebrity in the UK, in the sense that - beyond his musical career - he's often been invited onto panel and talk shows, simply because they know he's always going to be entertaining, with a hundred funny stories to tell. Like, in the UK, he's as much known for being "the funny story-teller guy on the TV" as he is for his musical career and, with the younger generations, that's probably more what he's known for than his music, funnily enough. Yeah, even with the impressive musical history he's had. Yeah, Rick's the sort of interviewee where you give him one question, and he'll just keep talking - with a million stories - for the next 3 hours, and it's all hilarious and riveting to listen to. The story-teller is strong in Rick, be it at the keyboard or talking to him in person.
Gilmour sealed the McCartney interview I bet. Crown Jewel series to follow with Eric, Mick, Keith, Van, Stevie, you name it. Sky is the limit and...time is fleeting

Ehh David Gilmour was cool, but he didn’t really talk about anything other than his new album. I’d like to watch him do 3 hours of him showing Rick how he came up with some of his greatest songs. While actually playing the thing that he’s known for. That interview really didn’t do it for me at all

Hello Rick..been watching your channel for awhile and thought time to sign up. I live in Brampton Ontario Canada A city of about 800,000 people. As I as backing out of the drive at 10:am turned on the Radio , always on 97.3 FM. The Jockey comes on and says " hey I was watching a guy on youtube named Rick Beato interviewing REM, great stories. You all should have a look.". I thought WOW what a shout out! 97.3 FM is the #1 Rock station in Ontario Canada. Im a big fan of your work love the concept and all the tidbits.Carry On Rick.
I bought this. I’m an experienced jazz musician, I play woodwinds (sax, clar, flute), worked for many years playing shows, in big bands, writing charts, writing tunes. BUT - I don’t understand pop music very well. I mean, I understand individual tunes just fine, but I don’t GET pop and rock. I bought this course in the hopes of getting greater understanding. My hopes have been realized - this is a GREAT COURSE. I love music, I’ve loved music all of my 3/4 of a century (+!), and I especially love new insights into the art. I mean, I took graduate theory courses, and it never occurred to me that the last sharp is always on the 7th!!!! You have made me think about things I have known for decades in a new way. So much respect for Mr. Beato and those who work on this channel. Your combination of musical knowledge and interviewing skills is second to none in the music community. For my wish list would love for you to interview Steve Howe of Yes, Robin Trower, or especially Roger Waters. Other than Sting, I can't think of a more challenging person to interview than Waters. Especially you do a professional interview with Waters that focused on music, touring, recording, with keeping politics and Pink Floyd breakup topics out of it.
Got already hopes up that Jimmy Page would be next in interview :) If he appear at some point would be cool to know if he have played Jaguar or Jazzmaster ever.
Loved this!! I have a degree in music composition but I see myself more as a songwriter. So what is the difference? It is what Gilmour talks about, that you sing the melody. I was fortunate to grow up listening to a lot of musicals as much as pop, rock, etc. Listening to Lerner and Lowe, Rodgers and Hammerstein, etc will expose you to so many of the possibilities of songwriting... Themes, variations, the same song in different modes, etc. Getting that stuff into your head by listening all the way through those soundtracks will put so many possibilities in your ear. Grease is an absolute master class in all the ways you can use a I iv ii/IV V chord progression. Why were so many of the songs from the musical theater jazz standards? They are among the greatest songs ever written. Start there!!
