As a retired heavy equipment mechanic I really enjoy your videos. It’s not for the mechanical work, hell I refuse a ton of work as my back is trashed and honestly my pension is pretty good. What I like is knowing a old school mechanic that isn’t afraid to work on anything is still out there. You do a great job of keeping up on the new technology but still smile when a old mechanical piece of equipment needs some love. It’s refreshing to watch your videos.

I have had a Free-Spin Hub conversion kit sitting here for my '07 Dodge ram 3500 4x4 and a couple weeks ago I had some help so we installed it. That impact is great. I will (slowly) be converting to red when it comes to battery powered tools. Thanks for the tip and Milwaukee needs to step up and send some love your way.
snap on electronic torque wrench is great -i have a 3/8 one - just got one of the astro lights ,wish i had had one before i retired -hang in there Warren
The benefits of a real torque wrench! Not the crap I had to use 40 years ago with a pointer on top and a scale on either side of the pull bar handle. Any one remember those? Still have it. Bar has a massive bow to the left. Warren, how can you store so much information in one brain? Can't stop watching!

The 1234yf gas is super expensive here in the UK too. I’ve had no choice but to buy a new machine as a third of the vehicles I get in my shop these days have that system. The gas prices are just bloody profiteering...... and customers look at me like it’s my fault........

re-back troubles,athletes warm up and warm down before and after vigorous exercise, 10 minuets strong stretching and some ti-chi will fix you up,one can not go out in the morning and start hauling stuff around with cold muscles,we make sure our motors are warmed up ,so our bodies should be, just do it.
That injector trim number is a Hexadecimal, so 0-9 numbers and A-F letters. Shitty programming in Texel that it let you put in a S character, because its not a valid Hex digit.
I got too much on the head bolts once rebuilding a 13.5. Had oil running out the sides of head gasket when I got done with torque procedure. Ended up being fine but I sure worried about that for a long time. Lesson learned
VGT's are great until they fall apart! Seen a lot of them come apart, but the failure you found here isn't real common. You'll have it back planting in quick it looks like. At least an inframe on these is fairly easy to access everything. Thanks for the video. Trim codes electronically flow balance the injectors rather than having to physically shim the nozzle or something on old school stuff. I've found most times you can get away without entering the new trim codes. But if you get one really high or low flowing injector you can have a problem, but it doesn't happen often.

you will be money and frustration ahead if you swap to l e d lighting ,cant compete with your mechanical skills but as a pretty good electrician the money savings in power will pay for the new lights and the ability to see soo much better will make you not even care they use less electricity and last so much longer,enjoy the vidios and keep up the honest good work you do
What brand torque wrench are you using for the head bolts? The injector trim file is actually for injector flow matching, it is basically a offset so the computer can adjust the pulse to make up for small variations in flow.
I may have missed it and have exactly zero experience with diesel engines but are you using a torque spec specifically for lubricated bolts? Lubrication drastically increases the tension on the bolt if torqued to the normal dry spec.
Patrick Outhier Torque specifications for ‘dry’ bolt actually mean very lightly wetted with oil. ‘Wet’ means drenched or covered in grease. I suspect he’s lightly sitting the bolts using the ‘dry’ spec as per the bolt manufacturer recommendations

Anyways, I think if you ask your wife or Blake to advertise your merchandise, hats, t-shirts, sweaters, mechanic gloves, I know you don’t have the mechanic gloves just some suggestions for you, you could increase the time and variety you spend on the merchandise could be a profitable endeavour for you, you could have some Sling Blade sayings on some of them as I know you enjoy that movie, continued success. Better check that condenser on the drivers side for a leak on the Yukon. I have had lots of them leak on the R134a but I just had my first one with 1234yf leaking the other day. They “improved” the refrigerant but didn’t fix the problem with the condensers. SMH
that r1234yf is expensive crap, and the cost of gearing up to work on those systems isn't worth your time... I'd send him to a dealer and wash your hands of it.
Deere and CAT always says to replace head and rod bolts never reuse old bolts.I made that mistake. That VGT stuff in a decade will all be junked. We need to go back to 1980s Cummins simple.. Way to many Electronics and widgets failings cost $$$$$$$ I noticed alot of guys retrofitting 5.9 Cummins into old school 1066 IHC etc. Let's make kits for these in the future.
Seems like the position of the turbo above the cylinder head is a design flaw that is the real cause for the headache. If it had been lower than the ports on the head then this problem wouldn't have happened. Nothing wrong with your job here, it's a John Deere design flaw.
Most decent mechanics are workaholics because the pay is so shit for what you need to know and the amount of tools you have to buy to get the job done joybloggs in the street doesn't see that . No other trade seems to have to buy as many tools as a individual. Most trades the company you work for has bought them

The old method of torquing headbolts was tighten them til they squeak, then one full turn.

You probably had an electrical spike which caused the high bay lights to switch off and they need to cool down before reigniting

One suggestion for those kind of inputs for injector codes is to employ a barcode scanner. It reduces the chances for errors to virtually nil.

You need to dip the whole bolt to get oil under the flange head to prvent galling to the head . I dip them and pat them off with a rag
