In the behind-the-scenes video, the director said that the concept of this MV was that Jeff could time travel through different timelines, so you're not wrong when you said that these different outfits of his are from different eras! The phone emphasis was actually a promotion/advertisement for his collaboration with Casetify, he designed that phone case himself. And Trinity is a model! She mentioned that this was her first time starring in an MV too. Another fun fact is that this is his first (and so far only) MV to make it to 100M views :)

there are three distinct eras/lifetimes they meet in, and there are things that drive them apart/separate them in the first two (the other man in the first one, her death in the second one), before they meet again in the third. i read something about the phone he finds in the second era being a piece of the future/third era that brings him to her again. also, if you pause on the protest scenes, the protest signs are about women's rights!
the song itself, while the lyrics are very romantic, was inspired by the loss of one of jeff's friends. he mentioned during a couple performances of it that he started writing this song after leaving the funeral of a friend who passed.

While it sounds romantic, this song has always made me think of a friend who I no longer have contact with. I listen to it often when I have dreams about said friend 😢

so basically there's time travel. like he keeps finding her in all these diff timezones but its badly everytime. first she leaves hum for someone else then she dies and then he finds her again the end. the cell phone was supposed be kinda what helped him time travel. thats he was looking at it like he din't understand what it was. it teachnically was advertisment lol but yeah. the diff eras are differenciated by the cameras and clothing. like no camera and the drawings first, then the big video camera and then phone in modern.
