    Hi ya all, good to see you're on the way with the build 😉. Cool, thanks for explaining the issue with the floating home thing . Like I have said before, I have never been a sea captain. Oh I got your Gmail address but as you can tell I am also not a electronic expert. I still have to hunt and peck. (NO no feathers allowed. ) I also still haven't seen the floating garage where you park your truck. 😊 Still would like to know how much for your old place if you haven't already sold it . Anyway good luck with your future plans. I have been kinda busy with some treatments I have to go through. But still hoping for more education if you’re willing. The Old Coot

      Hiya there Old Coot!! 🫡😅 thanks for the comment. We haven’t sold it but…we’re thinking we might not, after all! It’s quite a long story 🙈 we always wanted to keep it, just didn’t think it was going to be possible financially, but it seems like we have worked out some solutions! 🙌 I apologize, as we never intended to get any “hopes up” just to then change our minds. But life happens sometimes I reckon 😅 Anyways, maybe we’ll show the floating truck garage someday soon!! 🤪😉

  • @michiganengineer8621
    @michiganengineer8621 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you consider a gambrel roof for your build? It would give you a lot more loft space than a standard "A" frame roof, and depending on how you're moored it should give you a big boost on your solar. Admittedly it would look weird as heck on a floating house but the benefits might outweigh the "odd factor"

    • @KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses
      @KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses  ปีที่แล้ว

      We discussed the roof in the video 😊 going with a skillion/sloped roof for the most loft space, best solar panel angle, drainage, etc

    • @michiganengineer8621
      @michiganengineer8621 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses I caught the consideration of a traditional "A" shape. I was just wondering if you had considered going with a barn style roof that would have given even MORE headroom over the loft. Plus the angles of the upper and lower sections could be built to optimize for solar collection.

  • @jasonhickson6110
    @jasonhickson6110 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would keep it for income potential. In an earlier video you stated one would sell very quickly, so hold onto it until you are absolutely ready to sell. You could even rent it out for the entire summer

    • @KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses
      @KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh of course, it’s a no brainer! 🙌 the issue wasn’t whether we wanted to keep or not, it was whether we could afford to. we can’t airbnb it while we still live here, so we’d have to have the new build mostly finished to move out. and we weren’t gonna be able to accomplish that without having extra cash…presumably from selling this house. 🫤
      that all being said… lots has changed in the past month or so & it is looking for various reasons that we might actually be able to afford to keep it (and finish the new build) after all! 😍 so that is a dream come true, and we will absolutely be renting it for the extra income!! 🙌

  • @ZwervenmetJuKi

    • @KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses
      @KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now that’s luxury!! 🤩 Nice! Hmm we haven’t thought about anything like that, honestly wearing house slippers is so cheap & easy we’re fine to stick with that in the winter as far as combating the cold floors goes haha 😊 but y’all got it made!!

    Looks pretty good, that gives you about a 9'3" x 26 dock out front. Not sure if you mentioned but what pitch roof can you get away with there? Running it the 18' width would give you max side walls under that 14' height limit. One other note, you'll want to run sealed batteries since they'll be inside due to offgassing.

    • @KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses
      @KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses  ปีที่แล้ว

      Will have to get with the builder to ask about the roof pitch! Not too sure offhand haha, apologies. As for the batteries being sealed, yep yep got that all covered! 🙌 definitely pleased to see there are some seasoned builders keeping an eye on the process to help us make sure we’re doing everything safely! Appreciate your insights! 😊

    • @EngineersHomestead
      @EngineersHomestead ปีที่แล้ว

      @Keeping Afloat with the Joneses id call myself a DIY/jack of all trades/too cheap to pay someone person lol. I believe anything under 3/12 is considered a flat roof and would do best with a membrane style roof. Here in the Midwest snow load would also be a factor on pitch. If you have a prevailing wind direction you could orient the roof...not sure on single slope if you want high side out of wind to not act like a sail or into wind to prevent rain driving up under roofing (probably more important with shingles).

      We’ve seen a few floating cabins on our lake with that goin on! 🙌 it’s super cool, I always think that looks so fun! I think our main reservation about it is that we live there year round, & it would let in a lot of cold in the winter. We figured we’re already spending the majority of our time outside on the dock in the summer, might as well keep inside a lil more protected for winter (but still with a view!)

    • @KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses
      @KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!! 💙 in theory yes, nothing against it in te regs! But in our case, almost every square foot of the docks will have floats right under them. At our house now that isn’t the case, there are some gaps, so it woulda been possible! This one will be a lot heavier so more float coverage.
