    Recently acquired the Particle and am so impressed with how instantly fun it is unlike a lot of pedals. Obviously I had to come back to rewatch this video and see what my favourite ambient master did with it. Some beautiful chord progressions in this one Stefan and you've given me lots of ideas. I really love how Red Panda set up the Presets with the option to flip between the knob settings and the presets. So cool. It's my favourite pedal for a while. But i think it's finally going to send me down the rabbit hole of a MIDI controller to get more out of it and my other MIDI pedals. Thanks Stefan!

    Thanks for reviewing the Particle v2 firmware update! (I haven't explored the new stereo options yet for some reason and integrated it into my stereo set-up). And the way you held things down into an infinite repeat/drone using the "chop" knob isnt something I'd considered. Also, at 4:35, I realized that guitar piece is so good, I could use at least a 7-minute post-rock development of it with full band behind! So good- listened to that section twice already and can't get enough. 🤘

    Another awesome vid, Stefan - subbed fanboy w/guitar & keyboards here. Watching your always lovingly musical journeys is my favorite way to learn the ins and outs of pedals, new and old.
    Well, stereo is the way to go for me - it's so great that you're also into that now!
    My fav of the three pedals you demo'ed is the RED PANDA Particle 2 with its stereo position for each granule. And I'm fond of the subtle "failure" stereo width of my CHASE BLISS Gen Loss 2.
    I'm daydreaming about making a series of videos with my Prophet 10 Rev4 (which is mono) embellished by stereo pedals - just the way you do here. Let the prophet speak in stereo…
    Would love to see an in depth vid w/Particle 2 from you, as well as the Microcosm. How about it?!
    Keep on groovin', bro!

      I'm about to pull the trigger on the Particle..Do the stereo effects like random spread and ping pong work if it's after a stereo pedal?..I know my Raster 2 ping pong only works if it's the first stereo pedal in my chain etc..

    • @martincarbow5491
      @martincarbow5491 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@patrickr6505 My Particle 2 (version 2.2+) works fine in stereo after my Deco stereo L-R delay.
      I think your Raster 2 should also do this as well. Check version, maybe it also needs to be 2.2+ or sth like that.
      Here's some info taken from the manual - maybe that could be an issue on your Raster 2:
      The pedal automatically detects mono or stereo input. Output is stereo.
      The pedal starts in mono in/stereo out. If a stereo input signal is detected, the pedal automatically switches to stereo in/stereo out. At that point it stops checking the input. If you need to switch back to a mono input, you can power cycle the pedal or toggle the input/output configuration to a different setting and back to "auto".
      This is a beta feature added in firmware version 2.2.0. It works well detect- ing mono or stereo connections on startup, but does not always detect "hot swapped" connections correctly. If you try this feature and have feedback, please contact us [Red Panda].
      Hope that helps, Patrick - let me know how it worked out!

  • @markhammer643
    @markhammer643 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    One of the things that rarely gets mentioned about the DC-2/2W is that, by virtue of employing two counterswept delay chips, it provides THREE, count 'em, *three* voices: one dry, and two modulated delay. Having a 2nd voice is like having a backup singer. Having TWO additional voices, however, is what makes for a vocal chorus.
    I realize that the raison d'etre for this particular video is your love of stereo effects, but here's an interesting suggestion, if you're willing to give up stereo for a moment. Many 2-in/2-out stereo pedals are capable of "reprocessing". That is, you can take the output of one channel, patch it to the input of the other channel, and it gets processed all over again. Depending on the particular pedal, some attenuation may be required between the first output and second input, in order to prevent runaway oscillation, but I've yet to encounter this myself.
    Add to this the expectation by pedalmakers that many players will provide a mono input signal, but wish to use a stereo output. Consequently, the DSP will often provide slightly different versions of the sonic transformation to each output jack. That's great for achieving a pleasing stereo ambience, but it also provides some ammunition for interesting reprocessing. Consider reverse delay. If you reprocess reversed repeats, you get forward delay, right? But if slightly different versions of reverse delay are fed to both output jacks, then feeding A's output to B's input will get you a combination of the backwards repeats crossfed from A, *plus* the forward "re-reversed" repeats from B's processing, showing up at the same output jack. Play a note, and it comes back forwards and backwards.
    I once did this in conjunction with a stereo flanger. Guitar goes to flanger channel A, flanger to delay channel A, A's output back to flanger channel B, and flanger B channel to delay channel B. Strum once and you have an entire Tame Impala or Steve Hillage album.
    Take a short vacation from stereo and blow your mind for a bit.

    • @AndyAcker
      @AndyAcker 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Man, I can't read something like this and not try it next time I set up. Hopefully my Boss DD-8 is up for this reprocessing experiment in reverse mode. 🤞

      Oh yeah, I'm familiar with using stereo effects to create an extra internal effects loop. I actually made a video on exactly that topic many years ago when I worked at TC Electronic :) Especially dual delays can get really washy and dreamy when doing this trick.

      I can personally recommend the collider. They took the most popular settings from the nemesis and the ventris and put them in one pedal. It's a really good deal. Just picked one up for around $250usd used.
      Importantly for me, who uses it with synths, it accepts line level signals perfectly, and the delay can be midi synced with the rest of my rig.

      One huge thing to consider with Source Audio One Series is their extraordinairy editor, the Neuro App. It brings tons of other controls and sound scape possibilties in a very easy way. It also handles many pedals in the same environnement. Like many, i have been overlooking them for very long but i'm glad i have found them. Ventris reverb as such an amazing tone. It caries the best classic reverbs algorythms around but it can also bring you very far, i really love it.

    • @leftovernoise
      @leftovernoise 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@slylang I do like that I can hook my phone up to my collider to change settings. But the drawback is there is one particular setting I like to change often that can ONLY be changed on the app. So it's kind of a double edged sword imo.

      Hahaha ! So right. Well, in your situation... For my part i always work in my studio environnement and i'm using my pc. I’ve been playing in stereo for a long long time. Usually just ping pong delays with slightly different intervals left and right. Really huge sound if used economically. The gear evolution within amp/cab simulation has also made it significantly easier to get good stereo tones directly from your pedalboard. When I was in a band, I always dreamed about playing in stereo, but it was just not practical to drag around two amps for gigs and rehearsal. But stuff like Helix, IR-200, Iridium, Endgame etc etc etc has made the final piece of the stereo puzzle so much more practical and attainable. Good to hear you've been playing the stereo game for a while :)

Was asking because I have a Baum Wingman on the way. But always wanted a J Mascis Jazzmaster. Listened to your other videos and got the impression the Baum had that low-mid weight. And the Jazzmaster more throaty. But was wondering about the clean chime ability of the Baum, for sparkly granular ambience. Because I could definitely hear the JMJM has that. Hi Stefan. I'd like your take on the Balaguer Espada guitar. What makes it or its pickups more suited for ambient music in your opinion? And how does it compare to your other gorgeous guitars - the Jazzmaster in particular.

    • @kjetilgrinderud8367
      @kjetilgrinderud8367 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the ambient Espada isnt so much about the pickups, as it is abou the semi hollow construction and J style tremolo.
      I have a Balaguer Hyperion myself with the same pickups, and they are kind of medium output, works with a lot of genres.

    • @thepedalzone
      @thepedalzone  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don't think the Balaguer is more suited for ambient music than other guitars. The "ambient" moniker is more of a marketing tool, since the brand is mostly known for making guitars for the modern heavy/prog segment. So they wanted to show that their guitars are definitely capable of more than just that. All of my other instruments are single coil guitars, whereas the Ambient Espada is equipped with humbuckers, so it's a bit warmer and rounder in its overall tone, but without getting muddy. It's a humbucker sound that I actually like. It just feels very balanced and pleasant. One thing where it's clear they've had ambient players in mind though is the placement, feel and responsiveness of the Volume potentiometer. It's perfect for volume swells.
      Compared to my Jazzmaster, the Jazzmaster is of course way leaner and brighter in its overall tone, but the feel of the instruments are similar, since the scale length is the same, and the shape and feel of the necks are equally smooth and comfortable to play. So the Espada instantly feels like home to me, while giving me a slightly different tonal spectrum to play around with. Hope this helps.

    Hey man been around for a while now watching/studying your videos and appreciate all that you do. Question...I have the OG nemesis...is it worth selling it to get the new ADT version? Is it that much of a difference to update?

    • @thepedalzone
      @thepedalzone  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends on how important Analog Dry Through is to you. The OG Nemesis digitally converts your signal, and some people care a lot about that. ADT also has Drum Echo, Resonant Delay and Oil Can Delay accessible on the front instead of Degrade, Sweeper and Rhythmic. All of the different algorithms and more, are of course still available via the app. But if you're happy with your Nemesis as it is, then there's no real need to swap it for the ADT, in my honest opinion.
