    Great video, nicely narrated and well put together - not the usual youtube crap! Hope to visit soon myself. Cheers from Austria!

    Love those rigs. I own a TJ Rubicon, but my dream Jeep is an LJ Rubi like yours. And I can't say enough about that beauty of an EB. Great video! Thanks for taking us along on your journey over the Mojave Trail!

    Best video I've seen yet about The Mohave Road. It's like a Rick Steve's Guide. Good work!

    Having lived in the high desert for so many years this trail has always been on my list. For one reason or another though I've never been. Some day, some day..... I'm living in Kentucky now

    You should have gone around on I-15 after leaving Baker and taken Rasor Ranch Rd back to the Mojave Road and completed the trip up through Afton Canyon. Afton is some of the most scenic part of the Road. By going back in on Rasor you only miss a little bit of the route across Soda Lake. We did the entire route on bicycles twice this winter but we go West to East. Second time in February we go half way across Soda Lake and it became too wet to cross. Went back and around to Baker and Kellbaker and got back on the MR. We did the trip in 3 days both times.

    Hey, nice video! Got a question, if you travel down the Mojave road like you guys did..... can you can't anywhere along the way as long as it's not private property? And can you do a camp fire? What are the rules and regulations?

  • @H.pylori
    @H.pylori 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well done video. You were wise to avoid Soda Lake. Note that it is now on the NPS alert warning as impassable. Next time you can enter the road at Afton and then cross Soda Lake (when dry) and then on to Baker. Then you would have completed the journey.

    Thanks, guys, that was the route we intended to take - before arriving in Las Vegas and being struck down with the flu for almost 4 days, never leaving the hotel - and ultimately driving back to Texas. flj

      You don't need a road if you have a good Jeep and know how to drive it.

      Bill, I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. I found a map of the bypass on the "Friends of the Mojave website. There are a couple of different maps floating around online. Kev

    how did the bronco do going down that steep section? You only filmed the jeep doing it.

  • @kevinmeans2154
    @kevinmeans2154  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks Dimitri. I saw someone else do something like that on their video, and I thought it was pretty useful.

  • @kevinmeans2154
    @kevinmeans2154  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    In the narration, I explain that Bonnie (one of the Bronco's owners) decided that they shouldn't take it down that section, because of the Bronco's low ground clearance. I'm sure it would have made it, but it definitely would have drug, and it doesn't have any skid gear. If you've watched many Mojave Road videos, you might have noticed that this section of the road was in noticeably worse condition when we passed through, than in many other videos. That's due to the unusual amount of rain the area had just received in the days prior to our trip. Piece of cake for a short wheelbase, lifted vehicle (I.e. Jeep) but a real muffler-ripper-offer for a stock '66 Bronco.😃

    Would a Subaru Cross Trek with 9" clearance make it ?. How about Honda CRV AWD ?.

    • @kevinmeans2154
      @kevinmeans2154  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually think a Chevy Impala could make it over 90% of the route, but there are a few places that increased ground clearance would be good to have. A lot depends on how much rain has fallen, and how recent it fell.

    Oh well. Great video but it should be honestly titled "What we didn't see on the Mojave Road". Who in God's name told you'd it'd be in the 50's at night in the Mojave in January? And Afton Canyon would've also been flooded with all that rain that year.

    My Proposition: Dig a long ditch like tunnel about a 500 feet wide from the Mojave Desert to the Pacific Ocean. There is no drought just lazyness. In the next 4 years this plan better have action and government funding in order to prevent famine in California Nevada and Arizona beyond. Sand or Fruit? that's your decision.
