I might die today (memento mori)

Life goes against the odds. The probability that anything exists at all--let alone the probability that you were born--is just unfathomably low. You were not alive for all of eternity up to this point, and once your life is over you'll be not alive (again) for all of eternity into the future (unless something exists after this!). You have a tiny, infinitesimally small opportunity to see what this life is, to see what you are, and to witness everything in-between.
There are so many reasons to avoid/neglect/ruin this opportunity. When I remember that I might die today, I fall for those reasons a little bit less.
