  • I have finally concluded that the new 2024 Ferrari 296 Challenge sounds better than its bigger sister, the 296 GT3. This is what my ears decreed; after having filmed many different GT3 versions and seeing the 296 Challenge for a few short tests on the Fiorano circuit, I sensed that the sound was more profound and angrier. Finally, a whole day at the Kateyama Test Days on the Mugello circuit gave me confirmation. I love the GT3 version, and I think it's a fantastic and highly competitive product. I have always criticized the sound, devoid of personality, shallow, and the only discordant note in a perfect overall creation. I already know that many of you will tell me that competitiveness and performance are not measured by sound but by results on the track. True. But if racing cars don't make noise, who else should? I'm happy to know that in the 2024 Ferrari Challenge season, we will see this new model, which will not disappoint in this respect. Yes, I know we are light years away from the magnificent sounds of the naturally aspirated V8 engines of the previous series. Still, you won't regret the twin-turbo V8 of the 488 Challenge too much. Let's take a look at some features of the car. Compared to the road version, the hybrid system has been eliminated to the benefit of weight and costs. This allowed the technicians to work on the engine, increasing the turbo pressure and obtaining 37 additional horsepower compared to road cars. The 3.0-litre V6 120° Twin-Turbo now delivers 700 HP at 7,500 rpm and 740 Nm at 6,000 rpm to move a vehicle with a total weight of 1,330 kg. On an aerodynamic level, it is interesting that the S-Duct conveys the air towards the central radiator and then lets it out through the vent on the bonnet. Another exciting thing is the value of 870 kg of vertical load at 250 km/h when the wing is in the maximum incidence position. The CCM-R Plus braking system derived from Ferrari's experience in F1 is introduced as a world premiere of this model. The surface of the brake discs is coated with a particular ceramic layer of silicon carbide with the dual advantage of increasing wear resistance and stabilizing performance in the most extreme conditions of use. The 7-speed F1 dual-clutch gearbox completes the technical specs. Enjoy! 😉
Buona visione! 😉

those tires are just pumping out the water! The challenge cars are always so special, they hold a place in my heart. And they got the v6 making beautiful music. You spoil us with amazing test days, especially on the wet/dry days..Out of the last hairpin and down the straight was a favorite of mine. The downshifts into the chicane at 4&5 and back on the power was also very beautiful. The way the car behaves out of 12 and into 13 & 14 was amazing . ( i think i got the corner numbers right?) TY @italiansupercarvideo.

Yes, you understood the number of corners perfectly; the Mugello circuit is a fantastic track in the middle of the hills, with its ups and downs like a roller coaster. I have to tell you that even in the Challenge version, the 296 is impressive; it's a speedy car. I hope to have the opportunity to film them again on a dry track and get a more precise idea of the potential of this new model 👍

I heard this car again in 2023 during the Ferrari World Finals, again on the Mugello circuit. To my ears, it sounds pretty much like the 499P LMH; it is, more or less, the same car: th-cam.com/video/tJqEP9w4RLw/w-d-xo.html

I agree with your words; the engines you mentioned are from another planet, especially the sound. I also absolutely love V12s, so you're breaking an open door, as far as I'm concerned. I didn't say that this 296 Challenge has the best sound ever; I said that compared to the 296 GT3, which has a disappointing sound, this one is better 👍

Indeed, especially in the GT3 version, Ferrari could have tried to create an exhaust system with excellent sound; among the other racing cars, it sounds like an electric car, its sound gets lost.

hmmm... if you're talking about the race version I disagree.
With the right livery the 296 GT3 is one of the best looking GT cars ever made.
The Australian GT livery that they had in this last race they just look like GT racing used to look like.
