Loved this video and will be going through the same process with a 2003 XR100R for my stepson's first bike. I almost cried 😢 😭 😪 😩 😫 🤧 😢 😭 when I saw the damage caused by towing it. 😆 Bike looks beautiful and thank you for such a detailed video. 👍
You and me both! I couldn't believe it. I've since bought an enclosed trailer and now I use 6 straps. It's a bit excessive, but I can rest assured "it's not going anywhere"
Just found my old 03 XR100R and since I found this video, I've stripped it and rebuilt it. Thanks for giving me inspiration too give that bike a new life!
Thanks man! I'm actually pretty amazed it cleaned up. I have still yet to find one this bad. And as an update, it's still running great. It's hard to beat a factory carburator which is why I was so persistent trying to get it cleaned
Great video, we have a 2003 XR100 but the frame is cracked and I found a 2002 XR80 parts bike for very cheap to do a frame swap, this video will help me out lots. I was just going to do the swap, but after this video, I think a restore will be in the works. Thanks.
I got a xr100r too I’ve absolutely loved the bike runs pretty good seems to have low compression it’s pretty easy to kick over but starts 1st kick all the time what are some signs of when the motor is worn out ?
This one kicks over real easy too . I think it's just the nature of it. Mine was blowing blue smoke and I felt pretty confident it hadnt ever been freshed up so thats what made me decide to pull it apart.
Thank you tremendously for this video we just bought a 2000 model XR 100 R and I really needed those shock mount pivot joint torque values!!! I just placed an order for that pivot works rebuild kit
stumbled on to this video doing some research to buy an old XR100 for my son. Really enjoy your approach, how you work and what you spent money on vs rebuilding. Nice work, thanks for sharing
Thanks man I appreciate it! Those 100's are pretty indestructible. The hard part is finding one that someone doesn't want top dollar for. The prices these days are ridiculous.
I just got an 03’ XR80 for $500 that needs some TLC! Bogs pretty hard on top end of any gear with a bit too much smoke. Thinking it’s either Compression-Piston/Rings and/or Carburetor. We’ll see. Love the attention to detail in your videos.
Couple questions where did you get the neon tubing for the carb overflow and vent line also those Maxis tires look awesome what size and where did you pick those up from?
The tubing I got from a local motorcycle shop. The tires I ordered from Motosport Maxxis Maxxcross IT Front Tire 70/100-19 Maxxis Maxxcross IT Rear Tire 90/100-16
Thank you very much for the information! I’m going to get the exact same tires those look outstanding on your bike! Man I’m glad I found this video for a great reference! You killed this restoration
Great video and information. Great idea to incorporate a fuel filter. Was wondering if you know what size fuel line, vent line, fuel filter and petcock you purchased. Thanks Joe
@@MotoVated207 thanks looked right after i commented and found eBay to be the only source. If you thought your carb was bad you would love to see mine haha! hoping to be able to bring it around.
Awesome man! I used VHT high temp paint from orileys. Still looks great. It burned off about the 1st 12" close to the motor but the rest looks brand new
Thanks Kyle. I dont remember the exact paint color but it's Duplicolor Wheel Paint and I got it at O'Rileys Auto Parts. They only carry a couple different variations of that silver and it will be apparent which one it is once your looking at it in the store. The actual color that Honda used is called sliver cloud. This Duplicolor wheel paint is almost an exact match.
I think the new top end was around $300 using all oem parts and gaskets. They are bullet proof so to me its not about attachment. Whenever I go into these projects I try to remember that im hoping to at least break even when all is said and done. Fun for free basically.
Just got a 1996 XR100 for my boy that's turning 11 next month.
Thanks for the great video! Very helpful :D
Exciting! I hope you and him have a great time!
Nice job and great video. I've purchased a pretty mint 1996 for my "daughter". Learnt a lot from this video, thanks.
Thank you and congratulations to you both! She is going to love it!

Right on @Max It's a very rewarding feeling when you give something new life. Nice job!
Long video, but well worth watching. Encouragement to finish my build. Thanks. Les in UK 🇬🇧

Sounds great! These bikes are a lot of fun to work on and parts are plentiful!
Buy yourself an IMS shifter. They are an inch longer, fold and are much stronger. great job.
I appreciate that and thanks for sharing! I will have to check it out 👍

@@MotoVated207 I've found a few by me for around $1500 which seems fair for a clean running bike. The KLX110L clutch bikes are what's overpriced....
this vid saved me! thank you so much
Glad i could help! 👍
The videos are top notch and it sounds like Jay Leno

Thank you very much! @Jacob Brothers. Sounds like you got a great deal too! Congratulations!
You have a wonderful shop!! I'd give my left pinky for your shop. :-} Nice work too btw, gotta love Honda's
Thank you @Ron Steurer I appreciate it! It's taken me a while to get it how it is now but I'm very pleased with the outcome.
The air vent as you called it on the carb also has another purpose. If the bike is laid down it will drain gas out of there as well
Good point!

I don't. I actually brought a small piece with me to a local motorcycle shop and they just pulled off a couple feet.
You forgot to add the wife's favorite kitchen towels lol
Hahahahaha that's right!
Whered you happen to get the K&L carb rebuild kit from??
Ebay :)

@@MotoVated207 was it the 550 degree or the 1200 degree flameproof? did you use a clear coat? thanks for the info!
I used the 1200 without clear
seems like there's a market for a full replacement bolt kit for these bikes...
For sure!
what paint did you use that matched so well
I used duplicolor from orilies. It's silver wheel paint. They carry 2 variations of the silver wheel paint. It will be obvious which one is which

Did you put a new rear fender on or any new plastics? If so where did you get it
The only new plastic was the rear fender and if I remember correctly I ordered it from Motosport
I have an 04 that looks pretty identical and I can’t find like any 04 plastics just 03/02
@@MotoVated207 do you remember how much it was roughly? Saw a 2003 oem Honda rear fender for 60 bucks new
Hmmm I'm not sure if the 02 would fit. Motosport has always been great. It might be worth it to give them a call. They are very knowledgeable.
EDIT: I FOUND IT! 80101-KN4-A70ZA this is the part number from motosport and I paid $45.07 in July of 2021
im trying to find the specified torque for my things on the carb
Manualslib has free service manuals you can download.
Where did you find the graphics package?
@timdupont3227 HERE amzn.to/481JBSf
Can you please send me the link for the plastics and gas tank you used.
Thanks.
Everything is all stock. I polished the plastics and the gas tank is original.
Is it alot of money to rebuild these motors ? I just don’t see how it would be worth it unless your really attached to the bike

AMAZING! Love it!! You should use a service such as P-R-O-M-O-S-M!!!
Thank you! ❤️
Ethanol fuel, anything associated with the EPA is useless and, in most cases, non-effective as intended.
Pretty spot on! Like most of the 3 letter agencies, it's mostly about generating revenue in my opinion.
