    Ok, now I had to watch it again because you infected me with some serious GAS! :D Just bought the 18mm... But sold my 16mm 2.8 for it! That damn sexy lens hood of the 18mm man... And it's my favourite focal lenght too so it had to be done haha. By the way I was about to comment on the pacing of the video and that you should make it a bit snappier and cut long pauses out but honestly I think that's a strong point of your reviews. It feels like I am chilling with you on the street and it is super relaxing somehow. So please keep it going this way! Love the little memes popping up :D You should feature your collective members some day! Would be cool to see the community you created.

      @@ErikvonStrongber Where I live it's the cheapest Fujicron lenses (or one of, if you consider the 27mm a Fujicron). So buying it was a no-brainer for me. It also has a very good minimum focus distance so you can also take photo of flowers if you run into them on the street.
      That's my two cents. Hope it'll help.

I like the results can get with flash, crazy sharp at higher f stops. I know is gets ragged on but it got a certain magic.

    18mm f/2 is my favourite too! Really good for environmental portraiture too.I like the documentary feel it gives, and it really works a strong game with black and white. The 16mm f/.4 I find just too wide, sadly. I hate bringing it out anywhere. The 18mm on the other hand, I can never resist. Goes beautifully with the X-Pro3 as well, I agree.

    Fujifilm keeps pushing great, new cameras, but I think this lens and the 35mm f/1.4 are craving for a refresh. I could deal with the slower autofocus, but they should add more silent focusing motors and, as you said here, weather resistance! I have the 35mm f/2 and I'm considering a wider option, perhaps this lens, but the 16mm f/2.8 might be more suitable in this "fujicron" lineup style. It's a shame that it's not f/2. Anyway, I really enjoyed this photowalks. Entertaining. I subbed already! Cheers.

    Alex, on what you mentioned about new cameras driving the motor of this lens, does that include xe-3? XT-30 is included in what as new cameras driving the 18mm lens, right? Asking this as I'm considering both camera model and I'm interested with this 18mm lens. Thanks.

    • @AlexOnStreets
      @AlexOnStreets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! No unfortunately the XE3 is still the last gen AF so it will perform slower. Honestly if I didn't have my XPro 3 I wouldn't have bought this lens and go for the Fuji 23mm f2 WR instead. ;) But if its the XT30 then you will be great. ;)

  • @dxps26
    @dxps26 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've had 2 copies of the Fuji XF18/f2 over the past 2 years. I sold the first one, as I got it used and it was causing my camera to freak out periodically. But I found myself missing that classic 24mm field of view for walkabout street shooting, so I got it again recently.
    There are 2 big issues that give this lens it's much undeserved poor reputation -
    1- The Cost - it's $599 in the US. The XF23/2 and XF35/2 are far more competitively priced, as is the XF16/2.8 - Overseas, it's available at more reasonable prices. I got my 2nd lens new shipped from Thailand, and it's totally fine. Sure, any Warranty/Repair work will mean having it shipped back to Thailand, but honestly at the price I paid for it i'm not concerned.
    2- In-Camera Optical Corrections - The Fuji X cameras aggressively correct the barrel distortion on this lens (which is pretty apparent at this focal length) with the result that the corners appear soft and smeary. Just remove the Corrections in your RAW file and the corners are MUCH better. For the kind of shooting you're doing with this lens, Barrel Distortion really won't be an issue unless you shoot very linear geometric shapes, and even then I personally like the distorted perspective.
    It's an easy lens to shoot with - small, light, bright and with newer bodies it's quite fast. The noise will be an issue for Video work, but that's why the XF10-24 exists.

    What do you normally use (settings wise) when your walking around using this focal length? Lens seems to be snappy when grabbing focus

    • @AlexOnStreets
      @AlexOnStreets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically I am in single point, single af and center weighted metering. For the focus point I set to lower than its medium size but larger than its smallest. This seems to work the snappiest. And then I focus recompose. But my friend Alik in Part 2 just did ALL focus points and let the camera decide everything but still got good results. So its probably fine any way you do things. I think the biggest factor will be which model camera generation sensor/processor you're on.

    Have you used it in comparison with the 23mm f2? I’d like to know the af speeds vs the 23mm and the 16mm which I have both. Issue is ones not wide enough and the other is too wide sometimes.

    • @AlexOnStreets
      @AlexOnStreets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clifford Cooper Yes I have. What camera are you using? If on the newer gen cameras then the AF speed vs the 23f2 isnt going to be an issue. It's only if you're using the older cameras like the XT2, XPro 2 etc. Then the difference will be noticable. And if you do have an older camera all you have to ask yourself is if you're ever going to upgrade in the future. So it kinda doesn't matter. I've shot models walking down through a busy cross walk shot on continuous and 5fps and get like 90% hit rate. ;) I say anyone should just go for it at only $200. Only pass if doing video or care about corner sharpness.

    I’m not saying taking photos of strangers, without their consent is necessarily bad, but when you say “street photography is art and you are legally allowed to express yourself through photography”, I think it’s important to realize that you’re not only expressing YOURself but you’re also “expressing them”. Like, you’re also giving THEM a voice, not just yourself. Does that make sense?

      Of course they do! As I clearly pointed out in the beginning of the video when it comes to legalities/public spaces etc. (which I put there on purpose to explain to people who would give me your exact comment) But here's the thing. 4:14 They are hypocrites that have been allowing others to take photos for years with smartphones. So my point stands, I have an actual camera and they said no to me. It's funny how that works psychologically with people these days. It's nothing new and I am never that sour about it. In fact I put it in the video on purpose to show how not sour I am. ;) A case study in human sociology. They are also soliciting for money in a public space. So...big lols..
