out of all 9 Harleys I own the 2014 is the first to blow a fork seal at 25k, the 7 bike below 2014 have over 45k, the one over 2014 has 1k on the clock, I do all my own maintenance so I appreciate you, great video, one tip, when you take the calipers off, slide it down the rotor, put one bolt 5 or 6 turns in, put a 12 point wrench perpendicular to the edge of the rotor on the bolt head to pull back and forth to open the pads so it will be ready to go back on without taking a chance damaging the pads prying with a screwdriver.

Hi Ryan, I don't write very often, I'm more of a silent observer, but this time I wanna write thank you! Exactly what's in the video I've to do on my FXDF, Your videos are always inspirational and very good instructions for making your own, have a nice day, greetings from Germany, Meikthebike (Subscription: done, alarm: done, newsletter: regularly :-) )

In the video you said you fill with it in the down position resting on the lift. Later when you did your final top off. It looked like the shock was all the way extended. What should it be for the final. Up or down? And where did you get the air gap space number for your weight?

What about the oil level? Do you check it when it's collapsed or extended?

Is the air gap level to the fork nut top or bottom ? Good video..Thank you.

This is a really easy project and you don’t really need to buy a fork driver, I made one using a length of pvc and a piece of metal fence pole.

great video! i'm wondering what you think about the 2023 bikes so far? look at the touring model's engine....there is a new tube in the top of the heads.....looks to be a breather or a wide band o2 sensors or even liquid cooling. did you happen to notice that? thoughts on what it is? looks like a coolant tube to me.

Hello Ryan, can you explain in more detail how the oil distance is measured from where to where? Thank you

Is there a reason why you put the bushings over each other? Every fork I’ve rebuilt or seen rebuilt has the large bushing in the groove of the fork tube as you did but the smaller bushing above the larger bushing sliding on the tube not the larger bushing.

Watching your video and appreciation to you but I have a question about fork oil level you said was 95 mm butfot your
Weight you measured 140 mm were did these numbers come from trying to get the most out of my 14 street glide went 13 shocks now working on forks thank you

    Hi Ryan,
I'm in the process of changing my 07 Dyna stock front end with 49mm x 25.5" long slider tubes, to a Dyna Switchback 41mm x 26.25" long slider tubes.
I'm replacing everything including the triple trees, lowers, and headlight.
I have to increase the 41mm length, because the stock Switchback slider length is a half inch shorter with a stock length of 25".
I don't wanna go down in height so I plan on increasing the length to the next available size at 26.25".
My question is, how do I calculate the correct internals to accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    John

so the bigger of the 2 bushing guides 46516-01 is driven into place by the spacer 46515-01 and the oil seal 46514-01a with the seal driving tool ? all at one time ? and i dont have to worry about the depth of the bushing guide into the slider fork ? thank you for replying

I have a 2016 Road King Police bike with 24,000 miles on it . I was getting a loud squeak every time I let off the throttle , when the bike dips in the front end. I’m thinking it’s coming from the front forks so I changed the fork oil and it went away . Unfortunately after 3 weeks or so it came back. Any thoughts on it ??? Maybe they need to be rebuilt

Indeed apparently now you can go up to 50000 miles with the oil as well instead of 10000 miles. Mainly because it is so much work with the newer forks. So, by that time you have to rebuild the forks anyway.
But, TIP : to prevent pre-mature wear of the split bushings and maybe the stanchions (and seals.....), I hope we know that one should first torque the axle nut down, only then the pinch bolt please? With a bit of grease or oil on the shaft to center the fork legs straight, and of course against some corrosion.
Have an even smoother ride !

Great video helped out a lot but that damn bottom bolt was just spinning gave me hell getting off and back on. Harley should of put groves on it so it would have something to bite on. 😂

12:44 you say 12 mm bolt, but in 18:13 19mm. So, what is true?
And are you sure its not 1/2''?

    • @roadreelz
      @roadreelz ปีที่แล้ว +2

That bolt on the bottom of the fork slider is 12mm like he said initially. The top fork cap plug is 19mm. I know because I just did a rebuild on mine and had to order the 19mm Allen socket and the 12mm deep Allen socket off Amazon because I couldn’t find them in any stores.

I've done hundreds of fork seals on metric bikes. I've never seen a bike where you had to remove the gas tank and the ignition and the dash just to change the forksales, that's crazy.
