Jhoff, I'll be the first to admit that the "How to be a X vocalist" formula was getting old after Doom Metal, but the pillaging of the scene kids at the end was a really good twist. And executed beautifully.

Call me crazy, but the idea of their being a specific Viking Metal subgenre, seems a little silly to me. I mean, if it sounds more like a Death/Black/Folk Metal, then shouldn't the lyrical themes not really matter? Like I would call Amon Amarth Death Metal, just as I would call Turisas Folk Metal. Not loop them all together with Viking Metal. It's a theme, not a genre, I guess is what I'm saying I categorize my stuff.
