I’m guessing a pounding block is for thick seams like on jeans... to flatten them before you sew through multiple layers of a thick fabric or hammer on a grommet.
For the scissors, shoe repair places may offer sharpening services.

The pounding is for opening seams when you are sewing heavy fabrics like for a coat. You iron as much as you can get it warm and steamy and then pound. Better not to do it on your ironing board as you may collapse it (guess how I know this lol). Fun haul. I just got a 1889 singer treadle machine at an auction for $35 Canadian. Needs some work but actually in remarkably good condition.

Haha. I said chemise the same way for years until someone corrected me. Thanks for thinking of me for that fabulous pattern. That mushroom and acorn fabric…😍. What a great haul! Thanks for sharing.

Spooky baby! Good knock down! 😂 I liked the batik style pineapple fabric and the blue and purple floral.

Sewing notions and patterns are so hard to pass up. At least they make good gifts!

Yaasss we love a good haul. I have a bunch of New York patterns I got off eBay a while ago and I’ve just matched up two of them to fabric. I keep hearing people love them so I’m excited to sew them up!
Those scissors look really nice and hefty, you definitely should see about getting them sharpened. I’d love to have scissors that long.

New York patterns don't have the best instructions, I mainly love them because they have the coolest details to them!

When I find patterns with artwork I like but construction similar to those I already have, I just download the artwork. You may want to consider something similar before your house explodes! (No shade; I learned that the hard way.)

Lmao I’m so bad about pronouncing things how I read them instead of how other people pronounce them 😄
    Those patters are gorgeous!!
