I feel like many of us who watch your channel really loves the awkward side our communities so if I ever back in Washington and happen to see you at an event then please rest assured that I also am awkward. Lol
I relate on being overwhelmed by events like this. I love seeing people's outfits but I really shrink when anyone interacts with me directly, especially in character tbh That leather bodice you bought is beautiful!
My daughter and her husband were on their to the Ren Fair when the weather turned bad with lighting and rain on the 17th. They will try again next year. I was happy to hear about your experience and the leather piece is beautiful.
Hi, we met at the food stalls! I just wanted to say I didn’t think you were awkward. I was actually planning to say hi and run away because I am extremely introverted but then you started talking to me and I panicked because I did not plan what to say after that. Anyway, sorry for being awkward, I literally cannot talk to people, but it was nice to meet you irl and hear your breakdown of the faire!
I was heavily into LARP and renfaires between 2005-2008 here in Germany. This was the time when first onlineshops started flooding the market with asian made products where there was near to no availability to buy those costume pieces . It was DIY or pay an artisan. Now that there's cheap fast fashion costumes to buy for newbies many reacted by elevating their DIY'd or custommade garments to a crazy level. My partner even dropped out of LARPing because he felt too much pressure to keep pace with his kit. In my experience you will find a higher percentage of artisanal vendors on smaller markets. Especially if there's a museum or a reenactor's club organizing it, there will be more people showing their skills, trying to educate people. With the larger markets, comercially organized, there will be more souvenir class vendors and more professionally presented shows. Since drinking age in germany is 16 (beer and wine) or 18 for everything else and there's no laws about drinking in public, you won't find a 21+ area. Kids will just receive a differently colored armband at the ticket booth. So I had a few question marks in my head when you began talking about a 21+ area... As for language: in Germany most vendors and some visitors try speaking like they did in Martin Luther's time and fail horribly. Very cringe.
I discovered Vitassium by Saltsticks recently and they’re brilliant as there’s capsules or sachets to dump in a 16oz bottle of water. Has made my life sooo much easier. Thank you for mentioning the electrolyte thing - it’s an excellent point for those of us who need to take that into consideration. Same with the snacks. Looked so much fun. You looked amazing.
Odd thing to be jealous of but I wish our Ren Faire had portapotties😂 I was literally in line for a half hour and found out I missed a spot with sunscreen. Costume watching was totally my favorite part!
I grew up in Colorado, but a bit before your time. You said Elitch Gardens and I was flooded with memories of the original park. So many visits of fun! I only went once to the Ren Faire in Larkspur, when my oldest was a year & a half. Costuming wasn't so much 28 years ago, but I've always wanted to go back. But now, I will have to craft some garb before I can go!
thank you for such a wonderful rundown! i really wanted to make it to this faire this year but my disability had other ideas, hopefully next year :) but now I'm so happy to have much more info going in, thanks! (also OMG warped tour porta potties were the WORST :P)
I love hoing to renaissance Faire. haven't been in a while. love it and miss going. when I was living in California I got on with a newer guild snd was invited to sew for the queen. that was such a huge compliment to me. I didn't get to stay with the guild thou. we moved across the USA. so different place and haven't been back since we got here. thou it is a plan in the works I hope.
I feel like it’s a pretty common introvert thing to not know how to elegantly wrap up a conversation. It’s particularly obvious when it’s a group of 3 or 4 introverts and the conversation has run down and then we all just stand there awkwardly trying to figure out how the exit the situation. I think we need a script or code word or catch phrase to use when it gets to that point so we don’t all just stand there staring at our feet until someone says something weird like, “well I better get go use portapotties before they turn into a biohazard,” or whatever and we all go, “right, yeah, see you on the flip side,” or “of course, good luck with that, bye,” and then run away cringing.
I would have you talk with the vendors before you lable their goods fast fashion. You may well find that they have designed the garments themselves and then set them out to a small factory in Indonesia or in India in order to have them made in time to be able to sell them at faires... Also not everyone can afford to spend more then $100 for a bodice... and I say this as someone who work faires and can't afford to get more then one $50 bodice a year to work faire in.
Because you work at faires I am sure you make really fantastic use of your bodice and it sees tons of use which is super sustainable! Part of my channel is talking about ways to be mindful of overconsumption and there are certain price points where garments cannot be ethically made. If that part doesn't resonate with you that is okay.
@@HaleyMarieVintage Don't lable a makers goods fast fashion without first doing due dilligance on who makes what. You are an influencer you owe it to those who take your words seriously to make sure you are correct and not judging someone false.
@@catherineleslie-faye4302 I didn’t mention any specific brands, so I feel very comfortable with my position. Also I did a perusal of all the clothing companies sites and after reading their about sections still feel good about my 50% of the brands for sure practice ethical sourcing. When brands source ethically they call it out, because it take so much more time, effort and money to do. I have been learning about how to spot fast fashion practices (which can apply to small businesses too) for well over a decade. I’m sorry I touched a nerve with you but I don’t regret or take back what I said.

Nice to meet you and we're both awkward, so I think we panicked together!
Excited to watch this, I’m going to a ren faire in a couple weeks :)
„Good Gentle“ is a gender neutral medieval/renaissance greeting.
That is a great one!

Thank you!
