Tbh, if I had the same issues as OP, I'd look at the auto-fold out side steps. Iirc, there's a set that can auto-fold when you lock/unlock the vehicle and potentially after the motor is shut off too

It's been shown that these things cut off visibility of what's close to you which is arguably much more important. As for hate from other drivers, it's usually the fact that being lifted literally makes your normal lights into high beams. That plus them usually being LED means you blind a lot of other people on the road at night. There's also the fact that because they're so big, they're considered commercial vehicles so auto manufacturers don't have to make them crash compatible with other vehicles. Ironically a lot of people buy them because they believe they're safer, but it's actually worse for all involved. And lastly, a personal gripe for me is how impractical they are in cities. I swear every single day I see one failing to fit into a parallel parking space or taking up two compact spaces.
