UB40 really can't be the same without Ali Campbell, but I'll continue to watch both him and the band and to be a supporter of all of them. I must say I'm pleasently surprised at hearing his voice in speech. It sounds way deeper than when he sings. Strange how some singers can do that so well. He's really got a signature voice. Back in 1978 my mom and dad remember great moments of watching them play at our local social club in Winson Green Bham best band ever so very sad what money does, but sometimes out of bad comes good and maybe a new start was the only way to carry on. I love you Ali but sitting here watching this some 14 years later is just so sad. You now no longer talk to any of your brothers, you didn’t go to either of your parents funerals and let’s be honest the career path you thought was going to happen never really took off did it and your brothers and the rest of UB40 are still going strong which is testimony to the music of THE BAND and NOT down to any one person. I’ve had the honor of seeing UB40 in its original format three times plus I’ve witnessed the band without you and I’ve seen the UB40 which you currently perform with and let’s just say I know which version is far better it goes without saying. Life is really too short Ali and the music of UB40 will be there forever but the foundation and the heart of the original band has long since died. Pick up the phone Ali and work it out with ALL of your brothers in the band and bring the magic back, now that would be very special indeed.
he should have left the band about 20 years ago. He has a wonderful & unique voice. I wish he had been given some better songs to sing to. It's still not too late.
I could never understand why was he doing calibration with other artist what was all that about ? I dont know whether it was a lack of confidence on his part to bring in other celebrity singers in, in order to promote his new album. I think his first solo concert tours did not sell well as expected. and now in the present Ali is using UB40 name as his own band at the disgust of his former Ex band members so now we have a two UB40''s bands, its kind of funny really verging on the absurd. Personally I feel Ali made the choice to leave the band to do his own thing musically. Its like having a divorce because you cant stand your partner but you still want to live in the same house that your shared.

Say what what you wnat about the quality of the covers there ain't too may tits who'd do that for as many ppl as they they have.
skanker1000 it's true the original writer and singer for Kingston Town was there for the recording and finally got his royalties for the song. People get confused about UB40, most of their albums are original material, it's only the Labour Of Love album series that are tribute covers.
Its a real shame,UB40 as the whole original group were sensational. Maybe if Ali had not fried his brains on drugs he would of had the sense to sack the management, lets face it it was Ali's unique voice that gave UB 40 that edge.

However, if what the Catholics state about their religion is true, then the Campell brothers should settle their bitter feud as that's what their Catholic faith teaches them. After all, the entire Campbell family lived and breathed two things - ROMAN CATHOLICISM and REGGAE MUSIC. Personally I dont care about Roman Catholicism - but they should use both their love of their faith and the love of their music to unite together. Incidently, they kept religion out of their music which was a wise choice. I hope they all re-unite again as Astro went off with Ali - so the split was even worse than Robin is telling you. As for their Catholic faith, I think that both Blacks and Whites can take their Catholic religion and shove it up their backside. I will say exactly the same about other organised religions too. He left because he thought he'd have a successful solo career, when that didn't happen he trys to call himself UB40, even though he left the band. They carried on with his older brother on vocals. He walked out of the band. They might not be the band that they was but to me its obvious that Robin's side of the story is the real one.
