We discuss breaking into sports media, how the challenge changes and what to expect. We also discuss the Washington Redskins and the challenges of cheering for that franchise.

That picture of Dan is about 15 years old, but this is a genius idea. Schools like this get people to pay them for training, when they used to have to hire them and then pay them to train them. So ridiculous because only like 20% of these people (at most) will get a job at a decent media company like ESPN, FOX, etc. Most will end up working on a local news station in some random part of the country hoping for a big break.
mikeangelo94 businesses got tired of placating employees. They renegotiated to strip workers of rights and make it the workers’ fault.
I'd say the percentage of people who make it big in broadcasting is smaller than the amount of people that make it into professional sports. even.
Really want to go to full sail for this but also don't want to pay 63,000 for tuition + 5,300 for the project launchbox + another 13,000 minimum to get and apartment so $81,000 later I've been to a glorified trade school that charges the price like they are setting you up to work for fox, ESPN,or CBS but you'll probably be lucky to on a local news station making 35k a year so good luck paying that $600 a month loan owning a house, having a family, or possibly even a vehicle for 5 years after graduation! It might be worth it if full sail had dorms on campus that we're included with tuition. But nah who cares about anyone anymore?

Problem is most won't succeed even with said degree. There are a litany of skills and chunks of information that school will never teach you. And what's already been said, you will start as an intern or worse anywhere.

This sounds like a clusterfuck of a school. Litmus test is when the guy who is teaching this is only there because he was laid off himself 6:40. Anyway this all comes down to open free market. If a major was something something private entities would be willing to pay money for someone with that major which is why a lot of liberal arts degrees are more like hobbies and not careers. It doesn't mean they are worthless but pouring money into them for a degree is usually going to be a bad move which is why you see brasitas with philosophy degrees. Wanna learn philosophy? Usually better off getting a library card.
To be fair, ESPN laid off a shit ton of competent employees because the Network itself is a dumpster fire and can't adapt to the modern age.
I don't want to come off like they are not competent at their job but I'm trying to highlight how difficult the field is when your teacher is there because he was laid off. We see this in academia all the time now where the professor's employment is teaching the subject and the students end up not finding work and then the next class graduates...same problem. This is why you see things like photography schools closing up all over the country and most of those professors only making money teaching photography. It's a classic scenario of majority of people only making money teaching hobbies and in many cases people are going into debt over a hobby thinking thats a golden ticket.
You can get by with majoring in journalism with a minor in sports broadcasting. DONT need to pay this guy directly. Just start in a lower league and work your way up.
