Because Mommy only looked away for a minute while being in a damn hurry. But, hey, she's only human ... At least the car didn't roll into the nearby river.
This was a 1964 Buick Skylark. This thing didn't even have the anti-theft lock on the steering column yet for the ignition switch or also called a key switch. The steering column on an ignition switch wouldn't come in till 1970 1969 on some cars
That mother was as irresponsible as the one on Rescue 911 who didn't watch her little boys as they went to play on the train tracks and a conductor had to jump off an oncoming train to save them.
does anyone else recall the psa about joy riding/car theft where at the end there is an amazing car crash where a stolen car crashes at an intersection and nearly hits the traffic light in the air?
This commercial was on that "70's Dimension" DVD. Yes, with that silly grin on his face, you knew he meant trouble. That kid is about 50 years old now! So what kind of car is that, maybe a 1966-1967 Buick Skylark?
02chevyguy okay, I couldn't come up with a definite match. Maybe a Skylark. We had a 1968 Skylark when I was a baby up until I was 6 and traded in for a 1974 Monte Carlo. Since I was born in 1968, almost any American car from then until the mid-1980's, I can tell the year. But any car you see on the road now no matter what make, I can barely tell if it's been produced for the past 20 years. They all look alike just like the houses built now! It doesn't matter if it's a Toyota or Cadillac!
@@jondstewart I agree, the first car I ever owned was a 1991 Chrysler New Yorker. I loved how easy it was to drive and how different it looked than today's cars. The older American cars had style and personality.
A family member used to have the bad habit of never engaging the parking brake. She left her young son in the car (2 y.o.), doors locked. Car was parked in the driveway of her parents' house. About 10 minutes later, her dad looked out the window, and saw a line of cars backed up in the street. He went outside. Daughter's car was in the street, blocking traffic in both directions, drivers of the other cars were trying to open the doors. He could see his grandson standing in the driver's seat looking very bewildered (you guessed it: he took the car out of "Park", and it rolled backwards). Fortunately, no one had been coming up the street while the car was rolling, and the car struck a curb, instead of rolling into the neighbor's driveway and striking one of their cars. I understand the ass chewing given by her father was epic.
Did that once but before i did i put seat foreword and fastened seatbelt braked just in time before i hit something never did it again scared shit out of me

Yes! That's exactly what I was looking for before I stumbled upon this. As I recall, it starts off with 3 or 4 kids walking down the streetm when they spot a car with unlocked doors and keys in the ignition. They all pile and take off joyriding until they run a stop sign or red light, then you see and hear them screaming like bitches with their hands flailing all over the place. I recall some exterior shots of a car careening through the air and crashing into god knows what. Sirens'wail, you see a covered body on an ambo stretcher, then the narrator saying something like, "Keys in the car."
jmfansite that sounds like the same one i was looking for. i think when the car takes flight it hits the over hanging red light. thanks for the reply. hopefully in time it will show up here on youtube.
+jmfansite Yes, I was trying to find that too. I remember it well (I was 6 when I first saw it). A '59 Chevy collides with a '64 Chevy at an intersection - that's the one I remember.
I remember seeing this PSA on TV decades ago. I’m surprised I found it on TH-cam.
Safety videos from the 1970s were scary. That's the point.
Imagine that...the first child stunt driver
Wow will I see him soon !
Also tell your children they are not old enough to drive,as well. That boy was trouble.
Hes a little shyte. He probaly ended up at san quentin by his early 20s
He is in BIG trouble
Because Mommy only looked away for a minute while being in a damn hurry. But, hey, she's only human ...
At least the car didn't roll into the nearby river.
Funny how black and brown & redneck kids instinctively just know that if they try their parents they're gonna lose
This was before you had to depress the break pedal before the shift lever would move .

Watching this is just s scary as when I first saw it back when it came out.So all the more reason not to leave the keys in the car.
I'm sorry, but that kid looked old enough to know better.
Looks can be deceiving.
His mom should known better she should have told him never to change gear if the engine is running and that a car is a weapon
You know full well that the age of the child doesn't matter in the commercials.
@@martinabrams8103 Hey kid, the car is NOT a toy!
in the seventies that kid wouldnt have been able to sit down for a week.
That mother was as irresponsible as the one on Rescue 911 who didn't watch her little boys as they went to play on the train tracks and a conductor had to jump off an oncoming train to save them.
I want to see that now. And I'm not the biggest fan of "Rescue 911."
Brain dead parents I'm sorry!
Hang on; instead of just blowing his whistle he jumped off the train? What if he couldn't get back on?
She's an actress in a PSA, it's not that serious.
does anyone else recall the psa about joy riding/car theft where at the end there is an amazing car crash where a stolen car crashes at an intersection and nearly hits the traffic light in the air?
Is that the one where the announcer says "Lock your car. Take your keys."?
Because of how old the car is you would still be able to shift out of park even with the keys out of it.
I do not think so. They started interlocking in the mid-60s. A 1967 we had when I was a kid had it.
And now we have brake shift interlocks to prevent this.
Those are good though till they break
Car: **is driving slowly**
Truck:i'm gonna get ya
Low speed collision. The deadbeat mom would be fuming in anger with the brat for writing off her car.
The modern deadbeat mother would be blaming the other driver.
She should have turned the car off and taken the keys!@@DashcamRiprock

She put the key in the ignition on the dash so it's a pre-69 model. Looked at a few pics...definitely a 1966.

I remember this commercial
Or tell your kids not to drive until their old enough.
I think he drove pretty good for a first timer up until he crashed into the other car. ;)
Looked like no one was seriously hurt. But I hope the kid learned one hell of a lesson.
There's obviously 3 adults in the car at the end
Kids, cars are NOT toys!
No Shit, Sherlock
kid couldnt touch the clutch
No clutch in an automatic. Lol
And away we go!😂
I had my fob in my pocket. The thief still took off with my car. 😕
The baby told him to do it.
He would have gotten it from me
That boy looked sneaky from the start. Old as that car looks, it looks like a death trap anyway without the boy touching it.
i mean, this is from the 1970s
the fact that we needed a PSA for this shows you what maniacs my generation were ~!
My Mom didn't drive but I knew my Dad would beat me for being a idiot if I never pulled something like this I do other dangerous Gen X stuff though
I was born in 1968 and never sat in a car seat
Oh no! 😮
Must've valued the Buick. They didn't crash it.
I remember this one. YOW!
Phil Leotardo's wife should follow that advice.
1964 Buick Skylark
What year did this come out

All the more reason to teach your kids about laws that control your life.
the mother shouldn't know better
Lol

I've despised this one since I was a kid and I still remember it on tv

You can add a fourth person looking for that PSA.
Just before the crash one of the teens yells SOCK IT TO EM...narrator says don't let a good kid go bad, lock your car, take your keys
