I still have my grandmother's sansevieria... or snake plant. She passed away in 1973. She had that plant for at least 10 years before she passed away. I'm in the process of dividing the plant again and sharing it with siblings. This is an old plant!

I have a snake plant that was starting to show signs of something not right, I took it into a green house to have it replanted into something with better drainage and sure enough she pointed out the roots were collapsed from the added weight and the water wasn't evaporating quickly enough. She added in a lot more perlite into the dirt. I'm glad I took it in, I knew something was wrong and looks like I caught it in time. Never picking out a plant with no drainage never again. They even had me stick my fingers into the dirt to feel what was consider not watering time. I've had the plant for three years and there is a lot of new growth. It's not doing too bad but it could be doing better. Thanks to these videos I figured out my snake plant was in trouble.

I have snake plant in my yard and I would like to know how to save them from winter. I've heard them taken out of the ground and kept in a paper bag and replanted in the spring. I would like to know if it is possible. Thank you
question what would be the best size pot for snake plant to grow pups, can the plant produce babies in 10cm wide pots or it needs to be larger? Thanks :)
That "stay dry" was in conjunction with the they "really like more drainage than was said in the video" because drainage makes the soil dry out quicker. She doesn't go over HOW MUCH drainage very clearly.
I am about to repot my one year old snake plant, but I'm not ever sure how deep to plant, I still have it in its original pot I bought a year ago and it doesn't seem to be growing.
I got a emergency snake plant question I just got a piece of plant from my doctor and it it would be propagating so do I just stick it in the soil and let it do its thing and by its going into the cold season here in Michigan do I put the plastic over to cover it up or anyting anybody know ?????
Animuz also ironic you’re in the comments suggesting of brands NOT to use. If I haven’t read your other comments, I WOULD buy miracle grow because that’s the 1st that comes up when you type in “cactus mix;” even from watching the video... I would have done the same. Next time you could frame your answer/ insight whatever you want to call it as if you generally are trying to help. Rather than try to decipher with sarcasm if I indeed “watched” the video or not. But thanks though mate.
I water my snake plants after the dirt on top breaks apart and sort of creates tiny sinkholes just to make sure it needs water. (I used the moisture meter before on the snake plants...it depends on your comfort level. ) I water thoroughly only on top soil and leave a saucer with water covering the botton of the pot for a few minutes (4mins) to wet the bottom soil so the roots reach down. (Making the plant believe that there's an underground river. 😅) Don't want short roots because the tall leaves might tip over. I keep the medium that the plant came in from the store. The lady in the video have heavy pots.. I can't carry them to a near sink or bring a hose blah, blah. My snakes plants are easy going 😍not fuzz compared to my other plants including the aloevera 😔. Me: Aloevera, you know other aloeveras are easy to care for. Aloevera: I don't like this light or this corner or this area or this new soil. More water, I am wrinkling. Less water, my leaves are soft. But the meter moisture says... Me:😭😭
i wouldnt reccoment miracle grow fertilizer for snake plants, it will burn its roots. I used it on my plants for years but the snake plant did not respond well and did end up dying because of the fertilizer
Yah! It works well for other plants. I use it on my pothos, ivy, peace lily, etc. but snake plants are more specific because they’re desert plants. I put worm castings in with its soil and that usually keeps it pretty happy, but you can research what they like. Glad I could help!

The white heavy soil amendment you're showing is perhaps pumice not perlite.

Snake plants like to stay dry for awhile and really like much more drainage than what was said in this video.
She said they like too dry out alot. She also said use drainage soo what tf u talking about lmfaoo

I've used miracle gro potting soil with some orchid bark and cactus soil mixed in.
Why are my snake plant roots browning
Hi - It could be a sign of root rot, which is usually caused by overwatering.
I was given this type of plant with no drainage holes it…I don’t want to repot it because I’m worried it will die
If it's a plastic pot, I would recommend using a drill a poking a few holes at the bottom which should help with drainage. Hope that helps. 😊
I wish there was a watering tutorial video somewhere.
Don't water it where the water goes down into the leaf bottoms. That slowly suffocates it. Only water around the edge, not going into the plant stems.

Very instructional video, but very low volume. Please pay attention on Audio. I'd rather very high volume and ajust to mid. Than a poor volume video.
A small boost in volume would be good yes, but it wasn't that bad. 15-20% increase should be sufficient.
