How safe was it to drag the man through the river instead of letting him get a ride with a pilot that was able to deliver his wife safely. Honestly, no common sense. What heart Jordan and other private rescuers showed. No time for pride mr. fire chief.

It wasn't about saving people. It was about control and power. The "officials" had no control over the pilot and wanted to be able to command him. Days after, they were able to command pilots and then allowed them to help. Just ridiculous. It doesn't matter who is there first to help. Everyone and anyone is a first responder who is there to help. The whole first responder thing is a brain washed idea that makes people think only certain people can be called first responders. Everyone else are volunteers who help the responders. First responders, in their eyes, are the ones in power and who give commands.

As this suck that a volunteer rescuer was treated so poorly. The first couple of days is always going to be chaotic. With communications being down, rescuers handling the logistics of sending out help and supplies and also organizing influx of donations and volunteers there can get some miscommunications. The pilot shouldnt have been treated so poorly but there could be something we are missing of the situation as well

So, if the man had drowned while crossing the debris filled water when he could have been flown out safely, or broken his leg while hiking through the debris left on the hillside, I wonder what their response would have been. The pilot believes he should have gone ahead and taken the guy. I know in hindsight he realizes that, but what is done is done. However, others can see what happened in this incident and know how to handle it in the future. And that's the one good thing that came from this. It may save someone's life in the future.

i understand the side of the fire officials because if you just go there to help your gonna get in the way of their operations, its for safety. however when your in the middle of a rescue you shouldnt ever be threatened with arrest. the question i have is since the rescue pilot became known its crazy the official rescue command couldnt work with pilot and its not even hard to do

"Go through the correct chain of command to be authorized to be here" AND "Well It interrupted operations of the people who were there from the national and state and local operations." FEMA wasn't there and here is a video of the 101st Airborne who showed up on October 8th delivering food to houses and neighborhoods obviously NOT DAMAGED. \th-cam.com/video/YYI-tFjNqd0/w-d-xo.html He was working on the 29th of SEPTEMBER. Like this city manager had a streamlined operation running on the 29th.

I think the lady should reaign as well. People that working together to rescue ppl what do you really thinks going to happen? Other parts of Carolina had private helicopters working with government agencies including national guard and FEMA. In the original story he said he had radio frequencys for there rescue efforts. The chief told dude to leave his son yet allow another elderly man. They didnt rescue him they put his life in more danger by having him cross a still raging river. The brain dead woman there along with fire chief should be force to resign.

This lady needs to learn the first rule of holes. Sometimes it's best to just admit you screwed up and apologize and promise to learn from the mistake. Did she really think she'd go out and convince people that this guy posed such a risk to operations that it justified leaving a man stranded on the mountain? Once he dropped off the wife, they knew about him, so you can't exactly say they couldn't coordinate around him safely.
A guy shows up with a helicopter ready to save lives. A competent person would have let him complete his mission, help get him registered with the correct authorities, then work him into the operation.
