My grand dad was a native american who fought in the korean war and was a toe tagger that would identify fallen soldiers, this gave me memories and flash backs to the stories of him
My grandfather who fought in Vietnam told me all sorts of stories, horrible horrible stories, when he got home from the war he had trouble forming sentences, he couldn’t work a job because he was always shaking and did not appear mentally stable, he had terrible nightmares. He was screwed over with his job in the platoon, he had to operate the flame thrower and trust me, no one wanted to operate a flamethrower, it’s heavy, unreliable, and causes excruciating and unimaginable pain to the enemy. He has horrible burn marks on his neck and shoulder, and he has said the screams of the Vietnamese soldiers haunt him while he sleeps. I feel bad for the guy, he also got thrown in jail 2 years after the war, that was the governments way of thanking him for his service.
I can't even imagine what war is like, people think it isn't that bad, but this movie really shows what its truly like, my friends dad was in a war, and his Humvee got blown up and his best friend died, now he has hearing problems. It's just so sad, because not many people come back from war..

Well if it was world war 2 then you'd probably in the 30% of soldiers who die on the first 3 month of their deployment, if it was world war one you'd most likely be in the 40% of soldiers that died during their first 3 months of deployment. But because you don't currently have any training whatsoever you'd probably have an 80 percent chance of dying in the first 3 months.
Really, nobody truly comes back from the war. Its tough to see, but after the experiences, they become what they saw most times. Not a killer, but somebody who has seen society at its worst points.

Paul looking through the French soldier's family photos and keeping them was the first time I've ever genuinely cried because of a movie, and probably the absolute only time I'll ever do so. I'm not a very emotional person, and that scene will probably always be in my memory.
I remember when I was in 8th grade, we spent an entire semester reading and going over this book. This was before they made the movie itself. Reading and watching the movie were definitely very different, but it kept the same cold and dark atmosphere in both pages and pixels. Probably the most traumatizing book I have ever read, but an absolute masterpiece. No matter what side of the war you’re on, remember that many were obvious young men who just wanted to fight for their country. It’s so sad to see the reality, but it’s also very important. I’m glad my teacher had me read this.

This video made me want to watch All Quiet on the Western Front, so I decided to watch it and see it for myself in its entirety, and I'm just gonna say this, it almost made me cry during several parts. The part that got the closest to making me cry was the part where Paul was trying desperately to keep a French soldier alive after stabbing him. Never did a film get this close to making me cry.
