It is about honour, bravery , our kings and emperors now all in heaven , never to be forgotten. And it also carries a trace of lament for the old glorious past that lives within monastery walls.
Thank you , finally. I' ve mentioned Bojana Peković about three times before. The guy on the accordion is her own brother. She is actually one of best serbian fiddlers( gusle) in Serbia and the fiddlers have the amazing voice too. The song is about our history - she sings to a pine tree to grow higher so she could climb it and touch the Hilandar ( the greatest serbian orthodox monastery on Atos , founded by prince Rastko Nemanjić- St Sava) to meet our heroic dynasty of Nemanjić in heaven. The kings and emperors of Nemanjić dynasty built almost every monastery and many churches wherever they ruled. For example , Emperor Milutin built 40 monasteries . The Emperor Dushan( Dušan ) the Mighty was in fact the Emperor of the Third Roman Empire after the fall of Romeia ( known as Byzantium, the invented terminology by Greeks) . That is why her voice is proud and strong.Great number of serbian medieval monasteries were built by Nemanjić dynasty on Kosovo and Metohia , but also in Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, , Bosnia , Albania, Macedonia ,Dalmatia...There is one church in Jerusalem built by Rastko Nemanjić .I suggest you check the Emperor Dushan's realm.
It's also important to say that most rulers from this dynasty became saints. That's why they are the Holy dynasty and that's why the singer expects to meet them in heaven. No other dynasty in the world compares in this regard.

I always wonder if some foreigner can feel this music. I am from Serbia, the singers are Serbs, and they sing in Belgrade, Serbia Yes, you are right, you can associate this kind of music with nature, with the flock of sheep, with the ancient way of living. This kind of voice is like Byzantine, the East Roman Empire. This is the music from the Middle Ages. this music is a serbian music from Kosovo, those songs are always full of grief and tears since the battle in Kosovo of the Serbian ppl against the Osman's empire in 1389. Yes, we are living in Kosovo that long and now they would love to take it
The voice and the rhythm are traditional. The rest of the band plays traditional notes in a modern way. Her voice sounds like ecoing in the mountains. Very beautiful.
It's a song about 🌲 green tree, sombady translate for Mr. G. Преведите му браћо и сестре, Ви сте млађи и бржи и ефикаснији, заслужио је он је наш! Хвала Вам!
Thank you for the information. I never knew how much religion paid a part in the history there until I started reacting to the videos. I am learning for sure.
"Grow, grow, my green pine" is a metaphor for the parental desire for his son to outgrow him so that the parent can reach higher spiritual levels by "climbing onto the top" of the pine tree.
The old folk song "Rasti, rasti, moj zeleni bore" was written down in the 19th century, and was also sung in the Middle Ages, in the village of Nerodimlje, where the Nemanjić dined in the Middle Ages. And it refers to two old pine trees, one planted by King Milutin and the other by Emperor Dušan the Strong. Many games and songs were sung around these tall pine trees.
As someone said: "Rasti, rasti, moj zeleni bore" means grow my green pine tree. It continues: "so that I can climb you and see all the way to the Holy mountain (in Athos, Greece), where the great lavra (monastic settlement - the Serbian monastery) of Chilandar is, so I can see the Nemanjić dynasty..." Nemanjići were a great feudal dynasty in medieval Serbia, who built around a 1000 monasteries and churches during their reign 12-15th century. They founded the Serbian Orthodox Church, literacy, the state administration and a strong foundation for Serbian culture. At the height of the Serbian empire, it stretched all the way through Greece, hence the centre of monastic life and the majority of Serbia's territory was in Kosovo, Macedonia and Holy mount Athos in Greece. Chilandar was an endowment of the founder of the dynasty, Stefan Nemanja from the end of 12th c. There is no example anywhere else in the world where so many rulers from a single dynasty were sanctified. They were noble and holy, which anyone can see for themselves by reading their biographies and Serbian history. Btw, there's a very strict process to bestowing sainthood which requires at least ten miracles witnessed by the laymen AND the clergy, connecting to the ruler and his earthly remains. Very often, among the saints, myrrh starts flowing from their bodies, and/or their bodies don't rot.
How beautifully you describe your feelings when listening to music. I have to admit that I am overcome with the same fantasy scenes. This throat singing is typical of folk folklore singing in the Balkans.
Hvala vam Mr.Giant sto prikazujete nasu narodnu i duhovnu muziku.Veliki pozdrav

@MrGiant I know why you love Serbian music and stand up for Serbs. This is because black people and Serbs have a similar fate. We felt the same injustice
Thanks for the reaction, really beautiful song. I always cry when I hear it. I can recommend you to listen to the "Ron Hosley - Srpkinja", he is from USA and he came to Serbia and fell in love with local music and people. He speaks great Serbian and has sung a lot of songs from our country on his channel. Also one other recommendation, beautiful folk song from Serbia would be: Merima Njegomir - Svilen Konac. One of my favorites.
MR.GIANT ! THANK TOU FOR GIVING A LOT OF ATTENTION TO SRBIAN PEOPLE. YOU ARE A LIGHT IN HORIZONS NAMED " THE WORLD ". YOUR COMMENTS SHOWED RIGHT IMPRESSIONS ABOUT US. IN THIS VIDEO IS OUR SENTIMENT IN OLD, OLD MUSICAL FASHION .BUT IT LOOKS LIKE YOU UNDERSTAND IT BY YOUR SOUL. THANK YOU ❤
Actually you captured the essence of the song pretty well. I just hope that anyone who sends their songs will also send you translation to lyrics because this is VERY DEEP and powerful song. It mentions Serbian tradition and history as well. All the best.
I LOVE this song! .. Now, a quick history background and clarification.. First, this is NOT a "Soviet" era song. This is SERBIAN song (no, NOT Siberia or Syria) and Serbs were never under the Soviet "iron fist" (thank God for that!), although after Second World War Serbia was a Communist country, so I see where a confusion may come from. This song, however, is considered "ancient" and reflects simple metrics and basically the songs back in middle ages (when Serbia was founded as a Kingdom) were composed of single verse that was repeated on and on., with no "bridges" or corus of the modern music today. The music back then was actually a "backdrop" or rather a "scaffolding" with a sole purpose to carry a story, sang as a Hymn or praise of the Lord, and music alone was second to the story telling ... although the music itself is truly magnificent and 'godly'.. This song has many versions (the lyrics), but generally in loose translation it says:" Grow, grow, my green tall pine, so I can climb onto your peaks.. so I can see my beloved being there far away, somewhere in the Holly Land ". The Holly Land that lyrics refer to, is in modern day Greece now where Serbian monasteries were sprinkled all over the ancient lands. As most medieval countries of the region of the Balkans, back in the day, were strongly centered around the Greek Orthodox Church, the art also reflected the social and cultural atmosphere of the day, hence the lyrics have very pious tone to it. I hope you enjoyed the song and I appreciate your interest in this song, and Serbian art and culture. Cheers! Here is another version, with slightly more modern touch: th-cam.com/video/wFGHjJOPg3M/w-d-xo.html
You are getting the right vibe! You just can't get the meaning which hits the Serbs right to the heart and soul! It's all about devine connection. A simple translation will not lead you to the meaning. You hvato to know thehistory, culture, what Serbs stand for etc.. You have to know the symbols. Like a great green pine tree is! Much love from Serbia ❤
Oh, wow! I am impressed with your interpretation which is so correct! Brilliant! The right translation of the song title is "Grow, grow my green pine tree" then she it says..." so I can climb up to the top and see all the hills and valleys all the way to the Holy Mountain Atos (which is in Greece, where all the monastery are). There is a old Serbian Monastery Hilandar there which was founded by St. Sava and his father St. Simeon who left all the riches of this world (they were kings) and chose a higher good in God-devoting their lives to prayer and left this in Serbian people heritage. So it is a song of ultimate freedom in God! Serbs are great warriors of freedom and justice. I love your impression! God bless you!
I've already said the best things about Mr.Giant before, and he continues to touch my heart and soul. Hey, where do you find all this? Well, I'm from Serbia and I don't have the opportunity to find all this easily. You are the king of kings.
This is plane voice or white voice. White according to Serbs language philosophy means " clear, plain ". In contemporary versions it has music cover but traditionally it is only a full breath song. You could imagine a shepherd girl singing to her promised man while he is in absence, fighting for freedom.
*Holy Mountain - Mt. Athos - authonomous Peninsula in Greece, filled with Eastern Orthodox monasteries wich belongs to different Eastern Orthodox nations. **Lavra - type of monastery ***Hilandar - medieval Serbian Orthodox monastery on Mount Athos founded in 1198 AD. ****Nemanjić - Serbian medieval dinasty (considered as Holy among Serbs) - founder of dinasty was Stefan Nemanja (who later became monk Simeon - st. Simeon). His youngest and favorite son Rastko Nemanjić (later became a monk Sava - even later Serbian Archbishop Sava - st. Sava) was supposed to be the heir to the throne, but Rastko truly loved only Christ so he refused to be the ruler and chose to be a monk instead. So he fled to Mt. Athos despite his father insisted him to be next ruler of Serbia. After Rastko became a monk, Stefan Nemanja gave up and later passed his crown to his second son Stefan Nemanjić, while both he and his wife abdicated and became monks. Later Stefan Nemanja (now monk Simeon) and his son Rastko (now monk Sava) together build monastery Hilandar on Mt. Athos. *****czarevitch - this term (title) is a deminutive of the title czar (or tzar) which basicaly means emperor (something like August and Caesear in Rome), but since in English word emperor has context of sombedy who is conqueror, invader, dictator etc. I must say that in Serbian this word has other context too. Actualy, tzar or czar is the highest possible title so that's somebody who is an image or representator on Earth of the true Czar in the Heaven - Lord Christ (thats why there is a believe that only the one Czar (Emperor) can be in the world). Because in Serbian language we dont use term Heavenly Kingdom but Heavenly Czardom (Empire). So the context here is because Christ is true Czar those humans who are chosen by God to be his representators on Earth are czarevitchs (deminutive of Czar) - in this case all those rulers (of wichever title) from Nemanjić dinasty.
PS: Thank you so much for reacting to this video... It is realy somethig special and like hidden gem of Serbia as you could see... Stay safe and nothing but peace, love and respect to you from us Serbs for nice representation of our culture in the world. ❤
It is not just a wind...it is about The Wind, The Mountaun, The Routh to the midle of zhe earth, The Sky, The Holly, The Earth...The History...it is everything...and you mister, you are just try to imagine to trevel trough...that is the different... you imagine and flying...but the song sings about reality of life, secrafice, pain, holly fight, love and bravely stay on this land...no matter what, you are staying and love and fight and take care of it... But good choice of song👍👍👍
This is old traditional Serbian song. Our old traditional songs are about God, his creation, love sufering, fighting for justice and truth, deep contemplation, emotion ( haiku form) and resurection of our spirit with God, despite suffering trough generations.
I heard it existed the very big tree pine in Kosovo and Metohija which planted by Car Dušan Silni from Nemanjići family. And this song is about that tree, which is simbol strong state of Serbs.

❤❤❤Divno osećate muziku. Vaš osećaj da ste na planini me je oduševio. Ovo je posebna, stara tehnika pevanja i ne može svako da peva ovako. Pozdrav od srca iz Srbije❤❤❤
The moment when her brother, who is playing harmonica, looks at her so proudly is priceless...❤❤❤
Or when she also proudly points her hand at her brother...
this music is a serbian music from Kosovo, those songs are always full of grief and tears since the battle in Kosovo of the Serbian ppl against the Osman's empire in 1389. Yes, we are living in Kosovo that long and now they would love to take it
Grow , grow, my green pine tree . It is a traditional song , modern twist added.
Oh my Lord! This is one of my favorite songs. Thank you Mr. Giant. You have a wonderful soul!
The voice and the rhythm are traditional. The rest of the band plays traditional notes in a modern way. Her voice sounds like ecoing in the mountains. Very beautiful.
Fenomenalno.❤❤❤❤❤
Here I am from Serbia...with you all...I love you because YOU ALL FEEL US! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

Absulutely beautiful Srbija 🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸 an very very Nice song Thank you 👍
Well done 👏...You really blew me away

Mr.Giant man thank really for show as Serbs in a brighter light. May God Bless you and your family.
Your perception of music without knowing any words is really amazing
Let’s go Serbian people and all former Yugoslavian ,like this post ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The old folk song "Rasti, rasti, moj zeleni bore" was written down in the 19th century, and was also sung in the Middle Ages, in the village of Nerodimlje, where the Nemanjić dined in the Middle Ages. And it refers to two old pine trees, one planted by King Milutin and the other by Emperor Dušan the Strong. Many games and songs were sung around these tall pine trees.
As someone said: "Rasti, rasti, moj zeleni bore" means grow my green pine tree. It continues: "so that I can climb you and see all the way to the Holy mountain (in Athos, Greece), where the great lavra (monastic settlement - the Serbian monastery) of Chilandar is, so I can see the Nemanjić dynasty..."
Nemanjići were a great feudal dynasty in medieval Serbia, who built around a 1000 monasteries and churches during their reign 12-15th century.
Thank you for all the information .
@@MrGiant you're welcome. Sorry for the ted talk 😄.
How beautifully you describe your feelings when listening to music. I have to admit that I am overcome with the same fantasy scenes.
This throat singing is typical of folk folklore singing in the Balkans.
That song can be a lullaby and also a motivational song to never stop fight. I sing that to my children when they was babies 👶🏼
THIS IS SERBIAN TRADITIONAL MUSIC !!!!

Mr. Giant, when the Soul Speaks...THAT'S IT!!!
Compliments to Mr.Giant.
This is very old serbian song!!!

It's real Serbia. Freedom forever.
BRAVO BROTHER!

It's Serbia, brother.
Mr Giant, i would like compilation of your intros, hahah. It so brightness the day. Thank you for being interested in rich and hard Serbian history.

God bless you mr. Giant 🙏🙏🙏💪
The name of this song is "grow up grow up my green (young) pine tree" and it's a bit patriotic
I've already said the best things about Mr.Giant before, and he continues to touch my heart and soul. Hey, where do you find all this? Well, I'm from Serbia and I don't have the opportunity to find all this easily. You are the king of kings.
You Mr. Giant are very good man in your soul
Thank you.
This is plane voice or white voice. White according to Serbs language philosophy means " clear, plain ". In contemporary versions it has music cover but traditionally it is only a full breath song. You could imagine a shepherd girl singing to her promised man while he is in absence, fighting for freedom.
Grow, grow, my green pine tree
Grow, grow, my green pine tree,
Grow, grow, my green pine tree.
To climb till your peak,
to reach the Holy Mountain*.
There is a holy Lavra** of Hilandar***,
There is a holy Lavra** of Hilandar***.
Of the holy dynasty of Nemanjić****,
Which were chosen among the imperial czarevitchs*****.
Of the Holy Simeon and Sava,
Of the Holy Simeon and Sava.
Which had left earthly courts,
and had nestled to the Heaven with their souls.
Grow, grow, my green pine tree,
Grow, grow, my green pine tree.
Thank you very much.
*Holy Mountain - Mt. Athos - authonomous Peninsula in Greece, filled with Eastern Orthodox monasteries wich belongs to different Eastern Orthodox nations.
**Lavra - type of monastery
***Hilandar - medieval Serbian Orthodox monastery on Mount Athos founded in 1198 AD.

This is old traditional Serbian song. Our old traditional songs are about God, his creation, love sufering, fighting for justice and truth, deep contemplation, emotion ( haiku form) and resurection of our spirit with God, despite suffering trough generations.
