I realized that I truly appreciated Motown pretty late in life. Wasn't vibing with it when I was a kid but heard a lot of it then. Flash forward to my mid 20's and suddenly it clicked. My Spinners jam is "I'll Be Around." That song is magical.
@@SkyAndersonReacts Yeah, there are still some lesser known artists out there keeping this type of sound alive but they're not making it onto the radio or getting much attention. Of course the pioneers of the sound are going to keep getting the majority of the attention because they were groundbreaking. Love all the Temptations hits and I love "Stand By Me" by Ben E King but my favorite might be "Duke Of Earl" by Gene Chandler.
The lyrics were written by twin brothers Melvin and Mervin Styles. They wrote over 300 songs including "I'll Be Around" of which this song was a follow up song. The background vocals were sung by Linda Creed (1948-1986) and the Sweethearts of Sigma: Carla Benson (born 1947), Barbara Ingram (1947-1994) and Evette Benton (1952-2021)
This is the Philadelphia sound, just for the record. Motown had them as artist before this recording. With very limited sucess by the way. They left Motown and exploded into our shared global community forever with this hit.
The producing and musical arrangements were done by Thom Bell. Thom was responsible for the lush orchestration arrangements for many R&B groups during the early to mid '70's. Groups like the Spinners, O'Jays, The Stylistics benefited from Thom's expertise.
This was a great era of music of the 1960's & 1970's. You had motown of Chicago & the sound of Philadelphia the city of brotherly love ❤ they had r& b & soulful love songs & disco all rolled up into one. Their lyrics had meaning in which you could relate to & lived through about life & love. No comparison with today. Please check out the sound of Philadelphia, you love them as well. You are so beautiful 😍 💖
That's cool I'm a kid from the 70s I'm biracial my dad was black he listen to jazz funk reggae and soul. My mom was Irish and she listen to classic rock heavy metal classical soft rock and folk so I grew up on that different genres
Motown good times. I live about 15 minutes from the Motown museum here in Detroit. If you ever get a chance to visit Detroit this should be one of the stops for sure. A lot of motown history there.
Sky, you love real soul music! I suggest the Dramatics, Blue Magic, Chi-Lites, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, to name a few others I like from that era.
Not Motown at this point. They started out there and were briefly known as the Detroit Spinners. They moved on to Philadelphia International records and the production wizardry of Thom Bell.
Wow Sky you took me back when I was a kid and use to sneak downstairs on Friday nite to watch the Midnight Special and Don Kirchner rock concert. Of course Saturday were for watching America Bandstand and Soul Train... Didn't need no MTV back then....
I was 5 when this came out… I grew up on Motown along with some great classic rock….. you’re right Sky, they don’t make music 🎶 like this anymore…. I saw them back in the early 90’s… Another great band I love is the Manhattans…. Maybe a reaction from them next, I’d recommend Shining Star (official video)…. The 70’s had the best music in my opinion…. Classics after classics!!!!!!!
I agree good music is timeless I think it's cool you like and appreciate that music your like me variety I like the who to the isley Brothers from black sabbath to earth wind and fire. And so on
I believe that the Spinners had left Motown when they recorded this song.......they were with Thom Bell at Atlantic when their careers took off.......they had recorded one real hit while at Motown......It's a Shame......which sat on a shelf unreleased for a long time......the Spinners realized that they were not going to receive the attention they needed if they stayed with Motown which already had too many other successful groups.......so, they moved on.......
Why did you cut the song off at the halfway point. If you want to keep this music alive, then don't kill the song halfway through. This is Philly soul, not Motown.
Are you talking about my pausing? You lol have no idea how reactions videos have to work in order to get them up loaded. Yes, but they were signed with Motown…
@@SkyAndersonReacts They had no success with Motown. It wasn't 'til they moved to Philadelphia that they became superstars. So this is not Motown, it's Philly Soul. Also, your video is not a "reaction", it's a review. Reactions are for 1st-time listens only. You should title your videos accordingly.
@@SkyAndersonReacts I understand the pausing. I've watched plenty of reaction videos before your channel. You did cut off the song too short before the instrumental finished and the last verse and ending vocals started, so it left us listeners who know the song feeling a bit short changed. Be careful not to cut off songs before their ending or you might lose fans.
@@SkyAndersonReacts The Spinners are Philly Soul aka TSOP (the sound of Philadelphia). These groups had a different sound from Motown. Their music arrangements were with full orchestras. Lots of popular R&B groups were under Philly Soul. Just an FYI.
Hi Sky, if you like acoustic guitar and a stunning voice give Dead Can Dance - American Dreaming a listen. Nice song selection , nice channel. Best wishes from Düsseldorf.
Real music stop after 80s Before was real talent, about love, respect etc.... Nowadays with all those platforms, internet social media everybody can be what they wanna be without any talent and they can sing so rap (cheap fake "music") to me, empty lyrics, blablabla, money, material things, negativity..... Sad to see where we at now. I love the oldskool people, love, music
Just love when youngins finally hear our music 🎶

YES!!! I love I’ll be around! Hey better late than never! They don’t make music like this anymore so please do cherish it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for sharing this, special lady! I llke seeing your appreciation for this beautiful music. God bless you!
Nice reaction. One of my favorite Spinners songs.
Beautiful presentation of Spinners' Classic Could It Be I'm Falling in Love, Sky Anderson
Wonderful. Takes me back to early childhood.
This is the Philadelphia sound, just for the record. Motown had them as artist before this recording. With very limited sucess by the way. They left Motown and exploded into our shared global community forever with this hit.
They were at stax in memphis briefly as well
FACTS
Definitely better than the Motown sound, IMHO!
Nothing like some good old school Philly soul the alternative to Motown.
BIG Spinners fan (old soul) here too. If you've never heard it, IMO their best song is "ITS A SHAME" and you must react to it ;-)
Sky, bringing the diversity! While I'm old enough to know this song pretty well, I've never seen it performed. Thanks, and great job!

I miss the “orchestration” of the ‘ol school music. The Rat Pack music had great orchestration by greats like Nelson Riddle.

Motown was not in Chicago. It was in Detroit, before moving to L.A. in the late '60s. The Spinners are Philly Soul.
Chitown had Curtis Mayfield & Jerry Butler
This rythem and music will come back. Everything comes around full circle

Ah, the Spinners. If you want to long for a sweeter time. Wonderful.
We have the same taste in music. I'm just so happy that i was born in 1980's
Actually the spinners recorded for philadelphia international records
This Group Was Not In Motown. The Philadelphia Sound On Atlantic Records
I'm a big America fan too
Play all of the America songs you want. I love them!
It's Philly Soul though

Songs great, you're great...Those horns. Can you do Impressions "first impressions"
Thank You Sky. More MOTOWN is you please, "Games People Play" by the Spinners 🙂

This isn't Motown, it's Philly Soul. Big difference.
Seems like back in the day there was a portal in Detroit where the angels came down and played for us...
That portal shifted to the skies above Philadelphia throughout the '70s. This is Philly Soul, not Motown.
Omg! Sky you are beautiful!
Spinners were on the Atlantic label..not Motown
Also from Philadelphia. Stax Records from Memphis was distributed by Atlantic in the 60s
The Spinners❤💯👍👍
Great music
Love the choker😉
Why did you cut off the tune before it was over?
I agree good music is timeless I think it's cool you like and appreciate that music your like me variety I like the who to the isley Brothers from black sabbath to earth wind and fire. And so on
Ouch, you need to make sure you have the entire song.
You are so : BEAUTIFUL !!! 😻
Motown created Ted Nugent. Thank you for this! REALLY took me back.
Good one.
Let's do a Song 🎵 together Ms.Beautiful Woman. ❤

Very good 👍
I agree it needs to keep going! Need modern musicians to go back to real music. I can't stand most modern music especially these auto tuned groups.
Could you react to a song called Elvis Presley suspicious minds 💓😍
You've gotta react to Full Fathom Five by Atlantis Chronicles
I guarantee you will like Gone With the Sin by HIM. It's not like this, but more romantic metal.
