In this video Steven Wilson, acclaimed British rock artist joins Dan for a chat. We made this video the same week that Steven’s 2017 album To The Bone was released, having reached Number One on the UK Album Chart. Huge congratulations to everyone at Team Wilson!
Dan had also just finished a new pedalboard build for Steven’s upcoming world tour, that also includes a significant departure in his main guitar and amp choices. Dan goes through the new pedal choices and explains how he approached various solutions for the new rig.

Just saw him in Milwaukee a couple of nights ago and he pulled that very amp out for one number. No effects, just the amp and the tele, chugging away on the guitar right after he turned it on to prove that it was a tube amp; "wait for it...wait for it..." ker-chung!!!
Love my Tubemeister 5 head and 110 - now I just need a MIM Tele and Steven's creative mind ... :)

I know Steven Wilson says that he's not a "guitar player" per se (he says he's more of a writer/producer), but to me he's one of the most inspiring guitar players out there. The tones and the atmospheres he creates with his guitar to serve his songs are just incredible.

Steven Wilson, in my opinion, is the greatest *current* pop/rock artist. He's second to none. His musicality, lyrics, creative process, performances, and most of all... artistic bravery... never shy to evolve and always true to his vision.
Dude! I would have happily watched a three hour version of this video. Steven's music is one of the main reasons I picked up guitar, and probably part of why I own PRS guitars. Now I find myself wanting a Tele, strangely enough!

I wasn't familiar with Steven Wilson until seeking his music out after a number of references here on TPS. Purchased tickets on a whim and just saw him live this past Saturday in NYC. As a fellow guitarist it was truly INSPIRATIONAL! His tone was amazing; clarity, cut, and just rocking! Big THANK YOU to TPS for all that you do, keep up the long videos that don't skim on context and thank you for the into to Stevens music!!

I love the way a no-theory guy like Steven Wilson commands guys like Guthrie and Alex Hutchings :) Creativity always beats technique
Ashley Mann Creativity also comes with technique! Ofcourse, not everyone who's technical is creative, but it's certainly a lot easier to be creative and to find ways to express yourself when your a technical player.
Better technique = better tools, definitely. But ideas are a different thing. I think they come, like Steven said, from listening.

Steven Wilson is amazing, but let's be fair. No-one commands Guthrie :) he just happens to be perfect in every situation.
He doesn't command them, he hires them for their incredible abilities - creative and otherwise.
In 2013/2014 I didn't know SW and his music. I saw the cover of "The raven..." on Amazon randomly, and ordered the CD because the picture looked interesting. What a luck, I really like his music!
One of the first things I thought upon my first full listen to Steven Wilson's new album was how much I love the guitar sounds he used. Thank you for this awesome show. I'm not even a guitarist and I love watching this.

Back in 2002/3 I was studying my degree and a college friend wanted to go see Porcupine Tree. I wasn't all that aware of the material but I agreed to go along. I knew all the London Venues, which is amusing as I can't remember where it was now (Astoria maybe?) otherwise it was such a memorable evening. The quality of sound and the band were really great. I enjoyed the whole set and it's a night I'll never forget. I collect all the SW remasters of the classic Prog bands. I've been catching up with old Rig Rundown's, which is what led me to watching this.

I've been following Steven in a non stalker way since 2001 when he worked on Blackwater Park, fast forward to 2008 when I got to see Porcupine Tree on the FOABP tour at Metro in Melbourne that night was life changing. He just keeps getting better and better and grows and develops and opens us all up to other amazing musicians. Just so amazing!
Thank you Steven for helping me to finally "get" the appeal of a Telecaster. The chord sounds you got from that little H&K with the Tele starting at 5:37 were indeed awesome. And thank you Dan and Mick for having him as a guest.

Love that he makes such great tones off a "cheap Mexican tele." You don't have to spend $2-3000 on a guitar to get play guitar. Even something people may consider a starter guitar can be great with practice.

Awe..too short. I could listen to Dan and Steven Wilson go on about his sounds for hours. In Absentia was and still is an album I listen too when looking for inspiration. Great video. On the length of videos though. I've noticed some folks complain about the long format. But I would vote that I look forward to the longer videos as it's like a tv show I tune into every week.
