  • With the combined stress of a global pandemic and the continuing injustices affecting the Black community, I needed to remind myself to breathe.
    As a part of the community, I wanted to provide some peace for myself and for others. I sat at my harp to calm myself through improvisation, and "Breathe" is what took form. I am sharing this song in hopes that it can help you find temporary peace and breathe.
    All proceeds will be donated to the Southern Poverty Law Center. You can purchase the track on bandcamp harpsona.bandc... or donate directly through donate.splcent...

    I just started playing the harp a few months ago. Any advice? I can play some basic things, but not much yet. This is so calming and beautiful! I hope to one day play like you.

      I recommend starting out by focusing on technique every time you practice! Back when I was taking lessons, I would always have an etude I would start with. Another thing that helps is practicing things as chords. Enjoy your learning journey!

    where can i get a harp and what type is best? i wanna learn but i don’t know where to start.

    • @harpsona
      @harpsona  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There are two major types of harps: lever harps and pedal harps. Lever harps are more of what you may see for Celtic music and use levers to change keys. Pedal harps are what you usually see in orchestras, are large, and have 7 foot pedals that are used to change key.
      I would recommend starting with a lever harp if you’re not sure where to start. Harpsicle harps are a relatively affordable brand of lever harps that are well known.
      I would recommend searching for harp centers in nearby cities to be able to talk with a representative. You may also want to check out music departments at local universities if you are a student.
      I would highly recommend starting with lessons. I don’t offer lessons but I know a lot of teachers are moving to a completely remote setting due to the pandemic. I suggest searching online for harp lessons and checking websites like the harp column.
      There are also great educational videos by harpists like Josh Layne on TH-cam.
      Hope this helps!
