@Avenus112 I think it's more about the egregiousness of the mistakes. If I'm a trucker, and I have 391 successful deliveries, but 9 head-on, multiple car pile up collisions, I don't think anyone is gonna call me a quality trucker, despite my successful delivery percentage. Just my perception of it tho.
@Avenus112 Eh, depends on the perspective. He's definitely not why* the fighters fight. He's definitely not who they are fighting for. But, he is the chosen, legally obligated representative of government mandated rules, and it is his duty and responsibility to make sure all parties involved adhere to the rules of engagement. I guess in our trucking analogy, he never caused the traffic jam, but he also never hit the breaks, which had a direct impact on these situations, to the point of disaster.
He did punch 2-3 times in the back of the head. Yamasaki called that right.. Kevin Lee call was also correct. But we can't oversee his worst calls that easily could have ended up with loss of life. But for most of his 20+ year career he did actually do a good job.
Agreed about the fact that in the vid you can clearly see at least 2 illegal blows to the back of the head. And about the fact that mostly he did good. Though as with people and experiences in life - few bad times, sadly (or luckily?), are enough to deem one unworthy.
"that doesn't look like the back of the head to me man" as the replay shows him getting hit in the back of the head. How much of a douche do you have to be to ambush the ref like that and not even bothering to really look closely at the replays first come on Rogan.
@@sillybearhours that's irrelevant tho. Cant just stop it cause you assume he'll go out. Getting choked asleep doesn't do any damage, why not let him go out then stop it?
For me that thought of "how did he see that so quickly?" or "good job on seeing that" is far more common than complaints to the opposite effect. Sure, A ref is right there a coup[le of feet away but we have slow motion instant replay from 284 different angles and even then... On the other hand, a ref making a bad call when it comes to a stoppage is about as bad a call as a ref can make outside of being bribed. Mario is almost saying "Yeah, I built 400 houses, but I built 5 of them wrong and they killed people when they collapsed, I'm still a good builder, I only messed up bad 0.0125% of the time." A ref making a bad call isn't just a potential bad day, it is potentially one of those fighters having the worst day of their life. While some might call it unfair, they have to be kept to a high standard. During the manned missions to the moon, a failure rate of 0.0001% would have meant failure as something like 10-1000 things would have gone wrong. There were literally that many routes of failure. In most situations, we would thinking that getting things right 99.9999% of the time would be extremely good. But there are times when that argument falls flat on its face. Times when the price of failure is so high, so are the standards and Mario here saying "but whaddabout the others" is a very bad argument. Yes indeed, what about them Mario? Those aren't what people are asking you about.
Refs are human, sure. But Mario was absolutely horrible. Dude's primary job is to protect the fighters, not "mediate with a warrior's heart". Dude was an absolute ass.
That Chiesa call wasn't even bad. He was doing absolutely nothing. Just laying there. He just saw it as an opportunity to have a convenient excuse for the loss
Tbh I feel like yamasaki made the right call when it came to the shots to the back of the head. Joe Rogan was incredibly unprofessional just going right up to him and ambushing him with the mic, especially because Yamasaki had not seen the replay and Joe had. It ended up making Yamasaki look incompetent when it was arguably the right call to make.
@@teddyjackson1902 the whole point was that it isnt a bad call. so to rush to the ref questioning his logic when hes correct is unprofessional. 2 illegal shots to the head, somethings gotta be called.
@@teddyjackson1902not really man. Refs are people too and WILL make mistakes. It’s just gonna happen. You’re not doing anything by walking up into their face and yelling at them for it right after it happens. In fact, you’re probably increasing the likelihood they’ll fuck up in the future.
That Matt Hughes fight where Matt was illegally struck in the groin, was insane! To be able to survive that, and then pick up, run the length of the octagon, slam and submit the opponent is amazing!
That was a great comeback. Had to be satisfying for Hughes, especially after all the shit Trigg was talking leading up to that fight. One of my favourite ppvs.
That PR nightmare seems to be what ended him. You do NOT referee with a fighter/warrior's ideals, you referee in the ideals of ruling/wellbeing. Whoever told him to say 'allow to be a warrior' has to be the worst PR person out there.
But seriously, I agree they are there to protect the fighter. But originally there was no ref or rules in the 80s/90s. To my point, I don't think it would have raised many eyebrows then.
At least one of the shots on Valimaki WAS to the back of the head. When you slow it down, its more clear that most of them werent, but Mario sees a shot to the back of the head and a lot of shots nearby and makes a call. We can argue whether it was the right call, but its a justifiable call. Man got ambushed by Joe Rogan and shit on by the fans that he was more lenient during fights and got shit on for that too.
if we DQ every fighter for every single shot to the back of the head, you'd be looking at a shit ton of DQs. Just pay attention to where the shots are landing in similar situations in the octagon (One guy is down and the other is on top of him punching him trying to finish the fight) you'll see that most of the fights would have to end in a DQ loss which is stupid.
I'm not a big UFC fan but most of these mistakes seem reasonable. If you stop a fight too early people get mad, if you let them fight a little longer people get mad. You just can't please everyone.
Also people are watching the replays at 25% speed and criticizing a delay of half a second to one second, but then if the referee stands too close and gets in the way that's also a mistake.
Well that's a dumb take stopping too early and too late are both mistakes. If somebody said "count to 100" and you counted to 94, then they said "no, that's not enough" do you think the correct thing would be counting to 112? Your comment makes literally zero sense.
Definitely don’t think he deserves the title as the worst referee, he’s human and makes mistakes like the rest of us. Good to see he owns up to his mistakes!
@user-qv8pg8gb5o This video could be for any referee boxing or mma. . Shit Mills Lane is regarded as one of the best referees in boxing. And he didn’t dq Mike Tyson until the second ear bite. And was trying to have the action continue. He also let Oliver McCall walk around crying and not fighting back against Lennox Lewis. Dqd akinwande for clinching. Those are just 3 bizzarrr calls from a ball of fame ref. Of his career many early stoppages and way late stoppages
Fr fr. Most of these aren't even that horrible. Yes, he definitely had a few blown or bad calls but when you're an official for that long you're going to miss things sometimes
For real. I always remembered him as one of the better ones. Him, big john, and herb dean. Herb is starting to get this treatment too which is beyond insane to me. The only one that I truly never liked was Mazagatti. That guy sucked.
Half of these weren’t that bad. The one where I feel like people overreacted was the triangle choke between the cowboys because when he tapped cerrone instantly pointed to it and he jumped in a second after. Plus in that fight he had just sunk the choke in so he had at least 5 seconds of consciousness before going dark.
Yeah that wasn’t bad AT ALL, also there were definitely shots to the back of the head mixed with shots that weren’t in the Silva fight (he was juiced to the gills anyway and fell off big time after USADA) And Lee had that choke LOCKED in and Chiesa also looked like he tapped
I agree, I stopped after the cowboy triangle choke, thinking some of these weren't that bad, he called it 2 seconds after the tap, what else would he do?
@@SWWondersYeah the travis brown one was a bad one but not insane ,matt hughes one was the worst one..He also had one with brock lesnar. But by no way is he the worst reff..Mazzaagatii was way worse ..Plus herb has had many such incidents too ,with lawler askren ,khabib conor ..But dana likes herb so he will make excuses for him whenever he fks up.
Exactly. More than half. Although, I could only make it 3/4 of the way through because of the bullshit. So 1/2 may be accurate. The hate for Mario comes from White's big mouth. And because most of the fans are idiots who have never even tried martial arts, they get their opinions from their ass.
The thing is with the Valentina fight. If you’re gonna criticize Mario for not stopping it, you also have to criticize John McCarthy for not stopping the khabib Michael Johnson fight (before the kimura that is, I’m talking during the ground and pound) .. but no one complained about that, yet his ground and pound was much worse than Valentina’s even if you take into consideration the biological difference
The Kevin Lee one wasn’t bad at all. He stopped defending the choke, arms go stiff. Even if you want to argue that he didn’t tap. He wasn’t defending himself properly and basically accepted the he was gonna go. It’s no different from Aldo just laying there covering up or Adesanya just weaving his head while he’s clearly out of it.
I disagree. Did you see his explanation. I do see your point, but the difference is, with a choke he's not absorbing devastating blows as your examples do. The issue is the damage doesn't occur until he goes to sleep. There is no accumulation. It's awake and asleep. So I can understand his concern but this isn't the standard, it's not as dangerous to let him sleep, and it's ultimately his calculated risk
it literally looks like he's trying to tap on the left arm but unable to coordinate himself if you don't want the ref to stop the fight while you're being submitted, don't make ambiguous actions that can be interpreted as submitting it was a marginal but correct call
@@lionelrivera_MMA respectfully, I saw his explanation, but he doesn’t do any of that while he’s getting choked. His shoulders never go up, the choke is locked in, and it looks like he’s about to tap or pass out. This dude isn’t good at reffing at all so I hate to go to bat for him but that call honestly wasn’t bad.
@@lionelrivera_MMA 3 more seconds and it could have been considered a late stoppage. He was about to go out and was not defending at all. There was 26 seconds left on the clock, he wasn’t fighting the hands, and it was clearly under his chin.
Casual take. steve mazzagatti was way worse. Yamasaki just went more viral and half the fans are covid era casuals and werent even watching in the mazzagatti era
I also don't mind the Chiesa call..Chiesa looked freaking gone..you have to make a split second decision..why didn't Chiesa close his eyes? that won't help you escape.
It looked to me like the lights were going dim. Also, it sure looked to me at 10:45 of this vid like he tapped weakly with his fingertips on the other guy's elbow and his own chest. I guess it could be argued. To me, I could understand the ref interpreting that as a tap-out. AND, he looked like he was going out.
He has made the same mistakes ALL refs make at some point when they are reffing big fights. I don't think he is any worse or better than any ref that has called as many fights as he has. Herb makes some crazy mistakes and he is considered the best of the best, the difference is he doesn't speak about it too much. Mario should have stayed of Twitter.
@@darylnyame916 herb dean has also made some absolutely terrible decisions too. He isn’t perfect, no ref is perfect. None of these refs are as bad as Steve mazagatti
I just watch clips so idk a whole lot, but aren't these (6:31) two distinct hammer blows to the back of the head...? First attempted and missed, second was directly on the back of the head.. Seems like a legitimate call to make if you're fast to react. He saw two back of the head strikes and ran in to stop, even though the next series of strikes were to the side.
In fairness, its a very tough job, and I wouldn't like to do it. One bad call and it can cost someone their health. No matter how good anyone is at their job they're gonna have off days. So split second decisions are sometimes going to go wrong for anyone. Including Dana
Yes. And no matter when you stop a fight, people are going to think you stopped it too soon and other will think you stopped it too late. You're always a bum in somebody's eyes.
Damn good video! Yamasaki's biggest mistake was talking to the media. It's okay to make mistakes, we're human. If you try to explain yourself, you're in real trouble. There is worse ref's in the UFC!
That’s what I thought when watching the video. These “blunders” aren’t really that bad. If you’ve never reffed anything, you are disqualified from giving your opinion. It is WAY harder than it looks from your couch.
Doood! I dont know if you even realize how true that is. I have experience with talking to the media. It gets crazy nasty with those turds. They bend and twist everything you say and demonize aybody they can for ratings.
For real. The Lewis one was ridiculous, but some others are not as bad as I remembered. But still, these guys probably make the most money among all refs, so the less mistakes, the better. I think we will get more and more good refs as time goes by
Idk he said 4 mistake and thats just a flat out lie. He constantly freezed up when it mattered most and thats why people hated him. not those big mistake that he owned up on
The Lee Chiesa one always strikes me as a little ridiculous. The dude is 1 second from being unconscious, not moving or defending, and glassy eyed with a choke sunk in. Bro, you wreen't defending that for 26 more seconds lol
@smoke8326 it is when a opponent is actively rolling . You can't judge how much or how little he gonna roll mid strike . They would hate me as a ref or rule maker I wouldn't warn or remove points from the attacker but from the rolling to break the attack with drawing a illegal blow its no different than lbj flopping in my eyes
Mario Yamasaki messed up for sure on some fights. But.... I always felt like Joe and Dana just had it out for him ever since he started interacting and gaining a following on social media.
@@JoeTheChicken26 he was! I meant people in General where going pretty hard on him just for few mistakes that in the end didnt even realy effect something in the longrun
He had far more terrible moments than were in this video, some worse. I laughed when he said “the last one” given how I despise Mario’s calls from a bunch of fights not in this video.
See here’s the thing It doesn’t matter how many good calls you make, because making good calls is simply doing your job. What matters is each and every bad decision you make, because as a referee, your mistakes change lives.
Could be worse. He could be Mazzagatti! Yamasaki had some terrible moments as a ref, but Mazzagatti was far worse, in my opinion. I'm new to the channel, but I'm liking what I've seen so far.
When I did jiujitsu in my mid teens for a year, Mario was the head coach and owner. My dad did it with me with a coworker of his who had been doing it forever. Nobody in the entire gym had anything bad to say about him - I remember him (I did not interact a lot with him being a kid) as being incredibly kind
I don’t even think many of these calls are THAT egregious… seems there was a couple split second decisions he hesitated on, but nothing that warrants the hate he gets
The Chiesa vs. Lee stoppage I can understand, because it looked like Chiesa was trying to tap, but very weakly like he was about to loose consciousness. That doesn't let Yamasaki off the hook for the rest of the blunders tho, especially Trigg's groin strike (that he obviously noticed, but did nothing about), and letting Cachoeira's and Maldonado's faces getting completely mashed to bits.
yeah I thought the same about the Chiesa fight, I even replayed it because it looked like he tapped and at least from the angle on tv, I would have stopped it there to because I saw what to me looked like a tap and also with erick silva, I do think I saw one shot land to the back of the head, but it was one shot.... should have been a verbal warning, and not a dq for sure
chiesa was for sure tapping that choke was tight and he has been submitted since then by other people with the same choke. might be his achilles heal he just doesnt want to admit it
Wait how do you know he noticed that? I'm still not sure it even happened; we didn't have an angle, and there were cameras on every side of it. Could have been a knee to the inside of the leg. They all also wear cups, so even still, if you can stop fighting to look at the ref; that's a YOU playing for the reset; he didn't get it, because he wasn't hurt, he took his eyes off the fight, and got punished for it. The "groin" strike was the most minor thing to miss in officiating history; you can't EVER see everything, it's just not possible. The only one that was particularly bad in this whole video was the last one. Herb has called fights WAY too quick, he's also let them go way too long; he's also called ones that were just wrong; where herb THOUGHT he saw something that he didn't actually see. I'm not even mad at him, Herb is one of the greatest, but that's my point -- even the greatest has worse calls than what they showed in this video.
Imagine Mario Yamazaki being a pro wrestling referee He'll be the heel referee who justs overlooks what the bad guys are doing and he screws the good guys big time
@@YellowPlagueProductions if the good guy hits the finish, Mario counts slowly…very…slowly while the opposite happens when the bad guy pins his opponent. If a foot or hand is placed on the rope, Mario ignores it (that would happen to the good guys while he won’t hesitate to count the bad guy’s pinfall if his opponent’s feet are on the ropes. @@MikeBandada In a cage match, if one guy climbs out first, Mario will still declare the other guy the winner cus he was technically already outside of the cage before the match started. In a tables match, if a guy does a diving attack to break his opponent through the table, Yamasaki will say the guy receiving the blow is the winner cus the diver's body also touched the table when it broke. @@YellowPlagueProductions If ever Mario gets knocked out and a substitute referee counts the winning pinfall, Mario would have the decision reversed because according to him, only the referee assigned by the company to handle the match has the final say in the match, his call is the one that must be acknowledged and if another referee besides the assigned referee officiates the match, all the calls he made would be rendered null and void!
11:30 i can totally agree on stoppin fight bcs of this choke Chiesas hands did motion as did he wanted to tap i can understand Yamasakis decision to end it
The low blow against Hughes is actually even worse because he DID see it. At 4:20 you can see that Yamasaki is about to put his arms between them to separate the fighters but then he's like ; yeah, nah, too heated for me, let's see where this goes ! Unbelievable...
That's what happens when you doubt yourself over all the criticism. He was thinking twice about his decisions and all up in his head. Dana White is the worst thing that's happened to the sport itself and needs to be put in his place and stop being such a btch and making outlandish statements about everything.
I mean...they wear cups, and he still stayed on his feet, so logically he probably figured he was okay. Besides, the fight wouldn't have been nearly as epic if it was stopped right there and then.
In Brazil, the fight between Shevchenko and the Brazilian fighter was widely publicized and even broadcast on free-to-air TV. I was a kid and a fan of the UFC until I saw that bloodbath
The punches was cleary behind the back of the head, Erick didnt derserve to get disqualified but id say no contest also he didnt see the low blow on matt huges. We need him back. Honestly. We needed him last night too
I agree with Dana White. But Yamasaki should have been banned sooner. Bc I’m surprised that Priscila Cachoeira was able to walk away from a 4-to-230 punch difference, from Valentina Shevchenko landing so many of those punches to her head. That was tough to watch, and Yamasaki’s excuse was absolutely despicable. Bc it gave me chills to think that Shevchenko landed 230 punches her opponent’s 4 in return to realize that she should submit her to win the match. That is psychotic. Bc Amanda Nunes vs Miesha Tate was also one-sides beat down that only took maybe a handful of jabs landed before Nunes ended the match via a submission. 🙏🏽
She was out from the sport for like, a year because of that fight. Even if he had made every other call correctly, that one alone should've gotten him fired.
I’ve driven 800 times, and everyone just focuses on the 4 DWIs I’ve had and the 4 lives I ruined, it’s not fair that they never talk about all the times I drove without any accidents! That’s what Yamasaki sounds like. I didn’t even think the Valentina fight was the worst, Val kept stopping punching every time I thought he was about to stop it. The Cowboy vs Cowboy submission was unforgivable. Inexcusable. He should have retired immediately after that fuckup, and the fact that he didn’t proves he has no honor and no shame.
I saw the same thing! At 10:45 of the vid, he looked to me like he was tapping weakly with his fingertips on the other guy's elbow and his own chest. To me, calling that a tap-out is not a bad call.
Part of what makes him so bad is he’s all over the place. Some refs are known for stopping fights a little late, some a little early but at least they are consistent. Like an ump that consistently calls his strike zone a little wide. This guy honestly doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing so each mistake is an over correction to the last mistake. Back and forth.
Most of those calls were legit leaving just 3 bad calls. Dude did like 4 strikes blatantly to the back of the head, good disqualification. Dudes arms were frozen in front of him and his leg started twitching, not early. There were like two seconds from the poking to the tapping, he wasn’t too late. you tell Fabio that he’s done fighting when you’re not a doctor, that guy was still blocking and still swinging even though his face was open. 400+ fights and 2 late calls and a missed groin shot make him the worst? Idc Dana and ufc fans are r e t a r d e d. Not to mention he was more of a decent human being than anybody who called him out, dude owned up to the 2 late calls, didn’t make excuses. Dudes a 99% correct call rate, he’s a legend.
Yamasaki is a 4th degree BJJ black belt, and also a black belt in Judo. He comes from a family of martial artists, has been training since he was a child, him and his brother own multiple BJJ academies, where Mario is the head coach. He’s literally the most experienced and knowledgeable ref in the game.
He was never a bad referee at all. None of these were really some outrageous calls. He got fired for one late stoppage, but there were plenty stoppages just as bad or much worse, like Shane Carwin vs Frank Mir, Mike Pyle vs TJ Waldburger, Chris Weidman vs Mark Munoz, Chris Weidman vs Vitor Belfort, Luke Rockhold vs Chris Weidman, Khalid Murtazaliev vs CB Dolloway, Glover Teixeira vs Anthony Smith, Merab Dvalishvili vs Marlon Moraes, Jalin Turner vs Bobby Green. Why not fire all those referees as well?
I feel like on the second one where he calls the time out he was in the right to a degree. The fighter whose mouthpiece fell out visibly did the hand T time out signal, dropped his hands, and turned completely away from his opponent. Even if the mouth guard didn’t fall out and the ref saw that he should’ve jumped in. And on number 3, those are just obviously illegal shots. Those punches are visibly, on the camera, in front of all our eyes, landing directly center on the back of his head. I counted 3 clean shots that I would definitely consider illegal. Joe Rogan has no idea what he’s talking about. Yamasaki even says “that’s not the back of the head?” While it freeze frames on a huge hammer fist to the spinal column.
Is it me or was that right hand from Lewis to Browne a total phantom punch? I never saw it connect live and the replay shows zero contact and no movement of Browne’s head.
“While he was being pummeled, I asked Matt Hamill if he wanted to keep fighting and he didn’t say anything. That’s a yes where I come from”. -Mario Yamasaki. (Matt Hamill is deaf)
When that fight happened I did think Chiesa was in the middle of his first tap, his left hand wavered about to fall then looked like it was in the middle of the first tap, still stopped it too early but not the worst for sure. Remember that Kris Moutinho fight talk about fights that should have been stopped that was pretty brutal.
Herb Dean Reffing Rockhold Vs Weidman was horrible. He should’ve stopped the fight way earlier. Dude at 57 strikes from full mount and fracture his skull because the stoppage was so bad.
I absolutely want to see the video of Steve Mazzagatti after you make it. He gave Jones his only loss. That fight should've been stopped, but he stood there and let Matt Hamill gets destroyed.
He also stood up Brock for one shot to the back of Mir's head and took a point while he was possibly winning that first. Not to mention Brock almost losing his knee because Steve didn't stop it after like 15 taps.
th-cam.com/video/qUUagxkdtrQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3w0zBjcWJ6_4rt3E This ref should be in the Hall of Fame of bad decisions. Holly is lucky to be alive after this.
Mario Yamasaki is the best referee in MMA, everyone should be grateful that Mario bless us with his presence. Because in a real fight, there is no referee & Mario gives us a chance to see a glimpse of a true warrior. Mario ignored the lowblow because he knew Matt Hughes can take it. Mario Yamasaki did nothing wrong.
11:30 chiesa goes out. He looks like he's about to tap( he said he was going for lees hands ) but then he goes limp. Both wrist limp with his hands just awkwardly sitting there. Mickey went out for a split second, and then came back. Yamasaki was right on it there. Looks early but it's not
Actually he was not that bad, i think he just had that old school mind of luta livre sometimes, that they can kill themsemvels on the ring, he lack of adjustment of the sport MMA. Also i think there was worst referees than him, that Steve Mazzagati, and the half bald old guy too that i forgot his name, was way worst...
I remember someone saying how disrespectful it was for joe rogan to interrogate Yamasaki after that terrible DQ he called. I hope that guy has had atleast one bad day since then, they should be called out for crap like this
You’re probably right. Joe lost his temper it looked like. Joe during the fight called it a win and mentions all of the strikes to the side of the head and Mario calls it exact opposite..
He's not a terrible referee, he just had a few bad matches. You could have 99% of your matches be good calls, and everyone only focuses on that 1% of bad calls. Doesn't help that Dana white calls him out infront of everyone, which makes them completely forget about his other matches
MMA refs like any corporate job come down to relationships. When things are going well, you'll never hear complaints. When sh*t starts hitting the fan, that's when you'll find out who's your friend or foe. While Yamasaki did have a few blunders it appears his biggest mistake was his indifference to building relationships outside the octagon (Rogan & Dana White specfically)

Tbf people's live are literally on the line

Yeah I found it funny Chiesa talking about how to defend it but he wasn't doing any of that.
One of those shots did hit the back of his head but the majority were to the side so Mario did argue ably make the right call.
Nothing unprofessional in confronting bad calls, in fact it needs to be regularly done in all organized sports, especially at the pro level.
@@teddyjackson1902 the whole point was that it isnt a bad call. so to rush to the ref questioning his logic when hes correct is unprofessional. 2 illegal shots to the head, somethings gotta be called.

@@a.nobodys.nobody The 80s and 90s in the 1800s, yes.

Yeah, you can't win as a referee. Too strict, people get angry for a ruined show. Too lenient and you're a monster.
Two of those were definitely rabbit. Good call to.
It was def more than 1. Idk Joe was watching but some clearly hit the back of the head along the hairline.
if we DQ every fighter for every single shot to the back of the head, you'd be looking at a shit ton of DQs. Just pay attention to where the shots are landing in similar situations in the octagon (One guy is down and the other is on top of him punching him trying to finish the fight) you'll see that most of the fights would have to end in a DQ loss which is stupid.

That doesn't look like the back of the head to me....and footage immediately shows a strike right in the exact back of the head
Yeah that wasn’t bad AT ALL, also there were definitely shots to the back of the head mixed with shots that weren’t in the Silva fight (he was juiced to the gills anyway and fell off big time after USADA)
And Lee had that choke LOCKED in and Chiesa also looked like he tapped
I agree, I stopped after the cowboy triangle choke, thinking some of these weren't that bad, he called it 2 seconds after the tap, what else would he do?
@@SWWondersYeah the travis brown one was a bad one but not insane ,matt hughes one was the worst one..He also had one with brock lesnar. Exactly. More than half. Although, I could only make it 3/4 of the way through because of the bullshit. So 1/2 may be accurate. The hate for Mario comes from White's big mouth. And because most of the fans are idiots who have never even tried martial arts, they get their opinions from their ass.
Yea he wasn't that bad at all
The thing is with the Valentina fight.
So I can understand his concern but this isn't the standard, it's not as dangerous to let him sleep, and it's ultimately his calculated risk
it literally looks like he's trying to tap on the left arm but unable to coordinate himself
if you don't want the ref to stop the fight while you're being submitted, don't make ambiguous actions that can be interpreted as submitting
it was a marginal but correct call
@@lionelrivera_MMA the damage would be if you hold onto the choke while they are still passed out and they’ll be dead at that point

117 to 14 is insane. But not for Mario "if he aint crying, he aint dying" Yamasaki

To be fair there was a strike to the back of his head but a single strike on a rolling opponent at most would be a warning.
I saw the same. Aah… Didn’t realize one strike is just a warning.
@smoke8326 it is when a opponent is actively rolling . You can't judge how much or how little he gonna roll mid strike .

Rubber arm taps are still taps
yeah I thought the same about the Chiesa fight, I even replayed it because it looked like he tapped and at least from the angle on tv, I would have stopped it there to because I saw what to me looked like a tap
and also with erick silva, I do think I saw one shot land to the back of the head, but it was one shot.... should have been a verbal warning, and not a dq for sure
chiesa was for sure tapping that choke was tight and he has been submitted since then by other people with the same choke. might be his achilles heal he just doesnt want to admit it
even thou he's not tapping t looks lie he's about to fade with 2 or 3 secs.. that choke were f'n deep..

Too me he looked more like his arms went limp for a second more than anything
This dude is making the other mma guys step their game up. Top notch creator
He has no striking exp, which makes sense why almost all of his bad calls are related to striking/ground and pound.
blablabla!
And now I want really hard Mario Yamasaki and Steve Mazagatti back in UFC, because Marc Goddard and Jason Herzog ruining fights
Exactly I thought the same thing for the third fight. Even in the live camera angle u can still see punches going to the back of the head
The back of the Praters head shots were 100% there. At least two 6:33. I never understood why Joe lost his shit over this one.

I can defend a good 2/3 of these, but that one, it 100% looks like a failed tap. I’d have called that.
God I was trying to look up Steve Mazagati when I stumbled upon this video lmao thanks for reminding me
Yeah I really don't understand how Mario is considered the most hated and worst when mazzagatti still roams the Earth.
He also stood up Brock for one shot to the back of Mir's head and took a point while he was possibly winning that first. Not to mention Brock almost losing his knee because Steve didn't stop it after like 15 taps.

This ref should be in the Hall of Fame of bad decisions. Holly is lucky to be alive after this.
Mario Yamasaki in pfl potentially reffing a Francis Ngannou fight is a terrifying thought a late stoppage in a Ngannou could be fatal for his opponent
Mazzagatti is becoming more and more a sign of if someone is a hardcore fan or not. Just mention the name, if you know you know lol.
Mario "If his eyes are open, the fights still going" Yamasaki
11:30 chiesa goes out. He looks like he's about to tap( he said he was going for lees hands ) but then he goes limp. Both wrist limp with his hands just awkwardly sitting there. Mickey went out for a split second, and then came back. Yamasaki was right on it there. Looks early but it's not
This is a great video keep it up, great production
Thanks friend
You talking about Rogan? Bc yea he should be called out for crap like that. Completely unprofessional petty behavior.
1:25 .. wait ... is that the hulk training in the background there?! lol
+1 for Mazzagatti's toolbox.
🤣
Correct me if I’m wrong, but is the punch at 6:31 not the back of the head? Maybe it’s top. I am ignorant in the realm of ufc legalities
The "be a warrior" line SHOULD be the standard
It looked to me like those punches were to the back of the head and that Chiesa tapped. Honestly a video like this could be made about every ref.
That was weird seeing a doctor stop a fight because "his face was battered" (if that was the actual reason). Kinda happens in fights sometimes lol
Probably subdermal damage beyond just the visible injuries
Good point. Joe really ripped him a new one in that interview and he hadnt made many mistakes at that time
He wasn't as bad as Dana put him out to be. Dana is basically the Vince McMahon of MMA and has literally lost the plot.
