THE SOLUTION to Your Workshop Storage Problem

  • I encountered an problem in the workshop and there was only one solution. I needed a storage and organization system for my workshop cabinet drawers.
Shop space is at a premium. Woodworkers tend to never have enough space to store tools, materials, or whatever else we think is valuable and necessary to have in our workshop. I needed a way to maximize my workshop cabinet drawers so they hold everything I need, with no wasted space. I also wanted storage flexibility. My drawer storage needed to be customizable so I can reorganize tools if needed. The solution was to make a drawer storage tray that transforms into basically anything I want!
My workshop storage system has dividers that slide along aluminum T track to wherever I want. It also has customizable dividers so I can add or subtract dividers as needed. The drawer storage has removable trays that can be moved into different positions. To top is off, a wood panel sits on the storage unit. I can put things on top, allowing me to truly maximize all of my workshop cabinet drawers.

I love the idea of using T track inside the drawer.... that's brilliant! It never occurred to me to do that... thanks for posting this video!

Excellent! Over engineering at its finest!

Really like this, planning not just for tools but I have three girls and my wife.....too much stuff in their drawers.

The idea of storing the components under the work is actually brilliant. Youre going to take out the work anyways to get to them. So it's less of a tool drawer and more of a easily storable, mobile project tray

Lots of unique (out of the box!) thinking here, as usual. And the execution is as tidy as the thought process is fluid.

Great video. Love the dividers, boxes, and your scrolling project organization. The small boxes and drawer dimensions remind me of James T Kilroy’s video, The Poor Mans Lista.

Great ideas, Billy. They give us a starting point for customizing our own storage.

I hope it gives a jumping off point for people who change their storage as often as I do.

One thought, if you cut the height of the back of the draw roughly in half, then when the drawer is open, your divider shelf could slide back, giving access to the bottom layer of storage. In that way, it doesn't have to be removed except for the case where you would need to access the very back of the lower level.

Nice video and very clever design ideas. But ultimately...possibly the most over-engineered and expensive storage drawer in history 🤣 ✌

$40 worth of t track (Canada pricing sucks) for a drawer lol

I love your videos, my concern with this project is it's made with MDF. Do you really think that would stand up over time? Personally I would have made them out of hard maple or walnut (I'm kind of flashy that way) but more importantly I want things to last. That, and I also absolutely HATE mdf...lol. Just my opinion and do you think it will last? Thanks...

Cool tray, except I can't stand MDF. Still, the concept is great. Don't you need finger holes in the front or on the sides to lift it out of the drawer?
Love the little brass clamps. Unfortunately, they're out of stock with no known restock date.

What if that t track was routed instead of metal..... Hmmm

A little bit of shellac would prevent those raw edges from swelling. It’s certainly cost effective if you are wanting to spend $$$ on storage.
