    Thanks for the tip, and for all your videos. I have learned a lot from your videos. I took a 1-hour subscription to Audi's Erwin and took a look around, and downloaded a bunch of PDFs for my 2015 Audi A4. I want to start servicing my car by myself, and I wondered if Erwin has a checklist for the minor and major services? In other words, is there any list of the procedures that should be performed at each service (or at each interval?).

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maintenance schedules should be available in the "Category 1" dropdown menu. Login without a subscription and you can see the search results... and you can click on relevant documents to see 4 page samples. Like this:

    While I agree that 35$ is pretty cheap for what you get, I think that it isn't right that VAG is asking any money at all for the repair manuals to their products
    I know that it is the same everywhere, but I think any product with the pricetag of a car should come with access to repair instructions as a given.
    To be clear: I totally understand that third party websites are asking money for repair instructions they came up with themselves. What I am not okay with, is a manufacturer asking you money to give you insight into how you yourself can fix the product you own already.
    There is no good reason for this beyond corporate greed

    I'm assuming erWin has more information and is much more detailed than the Bentley repair manuals? Thanks for the video.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bentley used to get the exact info form VW & Audi.... their contract / partnership ended some time in 2009/10. You can't get better info than this... unless you work in the dealership. These pdfs still don't cover everything, but are better than not having anything... like the majority of DIYers try to get away with (work without service info).

    • @Albertotron
      @Albertotron 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would erWin have the same info for an older car like a 2002 A4 as the Bentley since they just started their partnership with Vag? I might just go with erWin if it does have the same info, also because my parents have a newer Audi and would seem cheaper than buying two Bentley manuals

    Thats excellent! I'm going to be removing My Seized AGU 1.8T and putting a new lump in over the next month. But I need to time it up, De-sludge as much as possible and Re-seal the rocker then she should be good to go in :) #ProTip for you 1.8T people - DON'T do 130Mph with the (Low Oil Pressure Warning STOP Motor) light flashing away!!! I was lucky it popped out of gear when it seized ;)

    Thanks for the video, would you believe that I never used it yet but I was looking into it the reason why I never used it was I had Robert Bentley CD's or repair manuals but now we can't get information on newer cars and I use identifix which is ok but sometimes the info is hard to find or incomplete they use the same factory info but I see that by searching with the vin no. Would be helpful especially when working with electrical wiring diagrams more specifically fuses location and description of what they do. Do you know if the self study programs are available on all models and how do you sort all the files per model or year etc so the question is how do you find the information later when you need it months later ?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the drop down menu... the vehicles are listed with their VIN / chassis identification. Example 9M 1k etc as well as a generic breakdown of the year. I simply create folders Jetta 9m, Jetta 1k, Golf 1J etc with sub folders like Engine, Transmission, Wiring. It has worked well for me. When I get stuck on a car at work, I then do a vin search (shop buys 1 day subscription). Wiring diagrams for all the new models starting 2008> are 1000 pages or more. You open the file and have to do a search for what you need. That's the only down side. But again, for $35 you can download GIGABITES of information that will keep you covered for quite a while. I buy a subscription to erWin now & then to download new stuff. I only found 137 SSP this time... haven't looked through all of them yet. Also downloaded 1081 Technical Tips (in house bulletins)... have not looked at them yet either. $35... what more can I say!? =)

    Hello sir, thanks for the informative video, I just want you to please clear something for me, first thing is the PDF able to be used as a pdf even after the subscription expires? Because the subscription says : one day with printing rights. While the one hour option says one hour with printing rights(Screenshots only), I’m not sure what exactly do I get. Thank you in advance , cheers :)

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      erwin.vw.com/ (North America) or erwin.volkswagen.de/erwin/ (Europe)?
      I assume you were looking at the European site, since the North American site does not offer 1 hour subscriptions. I don't see the screenshot option... which site exactly?
      Last year I paid for a 1 hour subscription ( European site)... I can still use / open the pdf files.
      I mostly use the North American site ($35/24hrs) since I'm in Canada.
      I would suggest buying a 1hr subscription to see what it's like... then go for a 1 day subscription once you have confirmed that the pdf files don't expire.

      Thomas EXOVCDS but after 2 more I'm thinking that if you had a library already stocked and you did email, you'd make a decent penny. Figure 3 a day and generally speaking there are only just so many models. Your library would increase in size, and you'd be making a profit off the unwillingness of people to try on their own. I do see (in a tipsy state) the possibility of revenue

    What is the difference between Elsapro and erWin?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      erWin is service info in PDF format... Elsa was the Dealer Level "Service Information & Parts System". Dealerships now use ODIS, which is a diagnostic platform that helps Technicians troubleshoot vehicles and it also has access to service information (and more). I don't have any Elsa or ODIS experience. Some googling or youtubing should explain things more for you.

  • @schmuhf
    @schmuhf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just tried my luck with a 1-hour subscription, but it seems like they redesigned the platform. I was not able to simply download entire files; instead there's a document viewer kind application where you can browse the repair manuals page by page and chapter by chapter. There is a print option to save PDFs, but you cannot get large amounts of info at once. I was able to hastily browse the contents and save some stuff I might need, but I assume ErWin is only useful anymore if you're either looking for very specific information for a particular repair job, or you have one of the very expensive long-term subscriptions. I wish it had been like in your video: Enter a VIN, select a category and then save huge PDFs like a madman.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used European erWin.de 1 hr subscription last month... downloaded 1gb of pdf files. I also used the north American site 24hr subscription and downloaded 19 gb of pdf files.

    • @schmuhf
      @schmuhf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EXOVCDS Oh man, then I must have done something wrong. When I entered the VIN, it did not allow me to view any categories or perform downloads.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@schmuhf I use a generic vehicle platform search. I download all that comes up for, engine, body, suspension, transmission, wiring. Support for old vehicles is limited. If you need something specific, I can find it from my pile of files after I get home from work later tonight. I don't have all euro vehicles though. Let me know year, make, model, engine, transmission and I'll look tonight.

    • @schmuhf
      @schmuhf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EXOVCDS I appreciate the offer very much. I decided to splurge on another hour of access and you're right; if you do a vehicle platform search, the files are the. The system is still somewhat flawed, but I was able to download all the files I might need at some point. Including 1200+ pages of wiring diagrams.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      7 Euro for 1 hour (erWin Euro Site) is a great deal for the amount of information that can be downloaded. Very year I pay for access to VW & Audi info and download as much as I can (both on the Euro & North American site).

      10+ years ago, they were "time locked". The documents would not open after 24 hours. Anything that is downloaded now, will remain unlocked. All documents have an embedded safety warning (3 pages) that needs to be accepted, before the document can be opened... not a big deal.

      I don't... you have to check
      erwin.volkswagen.de/erwin/showOrderFlatrate.do

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't remember what I picked... I think you can chose anything. The important part is the payment / subscription (credit card info) if I remember correctly. I'll create a new account and will let you know what happens.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pick a user name, fill in the rest using your real name, email and then pick California 90210 and a city. Once you are logged in, you can pick a subscription and enter your credit card info. The VW & Audi erWin sites both use the same login info... meaning, if you register with VW, the same user name & password apply to Audi... and vice versa. erWin will send you a confirmation email with a temporary password. Log in using the temp password and the next screen will be to change the password.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      HEAVYGUNZ05 The service manuals contain detailed information for specific jobs... certain things are not detailed, because it is expected that whoever is reading the information, has experience working on a vehicle, and does not need to know how to remove something.
      Having said that, for $35USD, you can download as many service manuals, TSB's, maintenance schedules / procedures etc.
      There is no other information system that can match this "dollar & information" value.
      I buy a 24hr subscription every year.

      Like I said... for the money, this is the best option to get as many service manuals / information. Aftermarket service manual providers get the information from the dealer (same information as the erwin documents) and then "add" extra detail where needed.
