I raised feeder pigs for 25 years. Sometimes all goes great, but sometimes they don't. I've had all kinds things go wrong and have had to hand raise lots of pigs over the years. Had one sow lay down and had 22 live pigs. She only had 11 good places at her table. Guess who ended up with 11 babies in the utility room.

You’re doing amazing, Patara! Keep up the great work! Back in the 80s, farming was tough so each year my mom raised 100 bum lambs to make some extra money. Some from our sheep flock and some from our neighbors. We also bottle fed all the baby goats with the lambs. My sister and I helped milk 20 diary goats and two cows twice a day to get the job done. Forearms of steel, baby!! No shame in the game in how you get it done. You’re inspirational! Much love❤️

I think my response to someone who asked why I was bottle feeding would be "do I look like I have enough teats or that I'm in milk? 😁😜 Honestly think that people need to be sent to work on a farm for a year and then sent to boot camp.

For all the babies(human, goat, or otherwise), fed is best - so whether they are nursing from their Mommas or from bottles and whether they're drinking Momma's milk or replacer - FED is BEST. You do great with these babies, Patara - they're all so adorable, too! I giggled when you named Dottie and Dixie. I also have a Dottie and a Dixie but they're chickens. 😄

The new feeding rack looks like it works great! Well done. The throw up flu is going around just in time for everyone's Thanksgiving visits with friends and family. It's at my house. It's not fun, understatement. Have a bucket handy, and stay home min 3 days if you're feeling under the weather, longer if you're feeling worse. Your loved ones will likely best receive an apology for your absence at Thanksgiving rather than an apology or bringing this mess of a flu into their home. For all those who have it, I hope you all and I get well soon.

I know what you mean about the Happy Thanksgiving remark. I fell into hard times. A large amount of money my entire bank account was emptyed out in October. I may or may not ever see any of that money again. That was my property tax due in January in there so I'm freaking out with anxiety. The lady at my town hall called me down and surprised me with a Butterball turkey and a box of other fixings for dinner. And a gift certificate to a local grocery store. She said Happy Thanksgiving! I said it back with a forced smile and it was such a nice thing. I got all teared up. Times are tough but their are still loving kind Godly people out there.

We built a similar feeding stand for our foster kittens. Same reason you use one. You get finished feeding and cleaning up and need to start over but with the stand, there is time for life.

This just warmed my heart! It's a dreary day in the Appalachians of SW VA. It'll be rainy all day, but at least that's washing away the leaves in the stream. I wish I could share a pic right now bc all the leaves have dropped around here, & it looks like winter, except for the tree where we buried my cat, Baby. That tree has nearly all its leaves, & it's bright orange & red, & stands out brilliantly! I'm not surprised bc he was simply amazing, & literally died on the very day that my daughter & I rescued him 14yrs ago! When I was on the phone telling my Mama that he'd passed, I remembered that it had been our other rescued cat's bday (Boober) a few wks before, & we saved them less than a month apart. I ck'd my FB memories, & lo & behold, it was the same day! We always considered the days we rescued them as their bdays:) Baby was only 4wks old, & our vet thought he wasn't gonna make it, but we fed him special milk, just like you're feeding your baby goats♡ He was my little companion, always by my side. I've been sad for sev wks, & your little baby goats just fill me w/happiness:) Seeing my miracle of a tree helps, too! Wish I could show all y'all bc it's quite something! Have a blessed day everyone🙏

I guess the same can be said for broody hens and ducks versus incubated chicks and ducklings - hand reared are more friendly - says the person who was running around in the dark chasing a naughty muscovy (hatched by Dibley last year) who wouldn't go to bed in case she was invited to Mistress Vixen's dinner party.
